An acclaimed Yakshagana artist, Prabhakara Upadhyay began Saligrama’s Mantap Ice Cream in Bengaluru in 1981 when he realized the need for a business to earn a livelihood. In those days, the denizens of (then) chilly Bangalore were hesitant to eat ice creams afraid they may fall ill, and thus began a long and arduous journey of educating people to appreciate and enjoy these frozen treats. The effort seems to have paid off over the years, making this vegetarian ice cream parlour a household name amongst old Bangaloreans. From multiple outlets, Mantap has now scaled back to only one store in Seshadripuram, where Mantapa Upadhyay, (as he is popularly known) dreams up combinations that he personally puts together each morning with dairy rich ice creams that are sourced from a premium ice cream supplier. In this conversation with him and his family, I savour a range of his delectable creations - from traditional pure organic jaggery, guava chilli, to inspirations like the fruit fusion, red velvet cake, and classics like rich mango cream and caramel, and a couple of delicious faloodas too. This store is a definite must-visit if you love ice cream.

When ARTIST becomes creator .. ART becomes visible everywhere ... all these flavours are not just food but it is "his art" ...
💯true
true.
People from South kanara are very hardworking and extremely practical and very intelligent. Kudos to him and his zeal
That's why Many south canara people are successful in Hotel industry. Thinking is at different level. The education and culture provided in schools /homes have made them better person. Government school used to be soo good in this part of Karnataka but slowly getting diluted now by private education mafia
Very late discovery sir..never aware of Mantap brand existence in Bengaluru.. unfortunately we kannadigas lack in marketing of our own brands and many good things over the major platforms to get noticed...lot lot needs to be discovered and documented before they disappear.. so one more absolutely worthy documented video..thank you sir.
He never advertisers....He is thinking of retiring...Could have done at least 50 outlets for his capacity...Instead he has given all secrets to 50 youths to take up ice cream business....!

Go check food paradise tv he was covered 3 years back.
Gosh..just can't believe there are people like him in current times.. Such honestly, such ethics. He looks like a person who realized what life is all about. A big pranams to his feet and thanks Kripal Sir for introducing such a man..Will definitely visit this temple of authenticity 🙏🙏
Please don't get fooled by what is said on the channel. Personal experience is always the other way around
@@suryaprakashkk1186 me whose sitting right in front of the owner of the ice cream shop bc we know him 😅 :
Hearing Mr. Upadhyay's vaani, i realised that his heart is as pure as the ice creams he's serving. Yesterday, I read about a fraudulent activity on the community post, today, I met a man, virtually, for whom values mean more than financial profits. What paradoxical times we are living in! May Maa Lakshmi & Maa Saraswati bless him & his family every single day of their lives 🙏🏻
Sir, you are💯 right..🙏
@@raghavendraacharya5647 Thank you 🙏 and a small correction please. I have always belonged to the♀️gender since birth and always will 😁
Mantap Upadhaya is an Icon in yakshagana. His pioneering innovation of doing Solo acts with Explanation by Shathavadhani R Ganesh were amazing..They have performed that all across India. To see him be so modest about his achivement is refreshing.
As the saying goes “tumbida koda tulukuvudilla”
Making affordable ICE Creams is a Dharma.
Brilliant thought.
First of all... thanks @kirpalammanna for introducing "Mantap" ..
What else can I say?... I have been a friend of the family since many many years.. My visit to Bengaluru is never complete without a visit to the "Mantap".
Every time I visit, there is always something new.!!! never to be missed...
At the same time, how can you miss the regulars?!?!?
I am always welcomed (warmly) with a glass of cool grape juice topped with vanilla icecream. Served by devarajanna (or dhruva) with a large smile.
This is followed by the newly introduced "special"... a new flavor on every visit 😉
With Mr Mantap at the counter, I am never allowed to leave without another round of "impromptu sundae"...
THAT is MANTAP !!!
It's not just the icecream... its the legacy, the years of experience, the days of innovation, the hours of work each day.... all this topped with the love and affection of the MANTAP.... where else can you get that !!!!
May God bless US with many many more years of such wonderful treat.
Mantapa Prabhakara Upadhya is not just known for his icecream. He is an artist par excellence, a kind and helpful person, simple and down to earth... most of all a wonderful human.
You have heard about Lakshmana sacrificing his entire life for Rama....and the unconditional love & care of Rama towards him... now, see for yourself... in Devarajanna and Mr Mantapa ..
The feeling of "service with a smile " has to be experienced in person... at MANTAP
Kripal's videos are not just about food, it also features life lessons passed from generations 🙏
🙏
Between Corner House and Mantap, I can safely say they've defined our childhood epitome of Fantastic cold deserts, for them who've seen Bangalore right from it's yester glory!
I savour a range of his delectable creations - from traditional pure organic jaggery, guava chilli, to inspirations like the fruit fusion, red velvet cake, and classics like rich mango cream and caramel, and a couple of delicious faloodas too. Kripal uncle even you should note down his words and you should stop giving your bank account details in video description.
He is a great artist and wonderful human being 😍🙏Thank you for introducing this icecream brand to younger generation...
Truly a Gentleman!! I just love the way the owner talks and his thoughts of the business …. Would definitely love to visit sometime….
I remember mantap ice cream was also available in a corner shop opposite to present reliance fresh Mart in 3rd cross manuvana vijayanagar. Now that shop has become a hotel. Mr Upadhyaya did mention about the vijayanagar in the video starting, so I was correct about the mantap shop in vijayanagar. Nice to see that they are still making ice cream.
Fantastic video. Mr Upadyaya is an Amazing personality and creates amazing icecream. I am a fan of him for more than 25 years. He taught me one fantastic lesson in business. “It is better to be an ant and savour sugar than being an elephant and eat grass”.
wow..such a philosophical, hard-working, and humble person. Thank you for the episode, I am definitely visiting this place.
I loved loved the fact that he has all paper packaging and even cups 👏👏👏
Noted on my list for next trip to Bangalore
Thanks for sharing sir
Great video, made me emotional, thank you Kripal for showing this, it is one's Dharma to do the right thing.
100% Fact Bengaluru was awesome 15 to 20 years ago, we never experienced heat even in summer too. People who used to travel from different states in buses used to carry blankets when they have planned for Bengaluru. Deeply saddened by this drastic change and don't know whom to blame. Either the immigrants, land developers, real estate agents, companies... what so ever.. Old Bengaluru was pure Gold.. Missing it... Hope the same feeling is being carried by the old Bengalureans who knew what Bengaluru was!
Bengaluru has become a mess…Gandhinagara in 1970 was so clean and green ….the most prominent people lived there, leafy green avenues, quiet, today it’s full of immigrants, shady cinema halls, and polluted
@@ghungroogangatesh3549 yeah bro.... I completely agree
I was at Indian Institute of Science between 1977 and 1982. Bangalore started transforming into a concrete jungle starting in 1980.
I can completely relate to your words. Miss the old Bengaluru..
Blame GREED of many people that led to destroying lakes, gardens and even drainage systems for unplanned layouts that flood even today.
Bengaluru could’ve become an IT hub with proper planning but GREEDY people wanted quick money
I have had their ice creams in Saligrama UDUPI . "Mantap" means a covering of dried coconut leaves and they started their hotel in a mantap in Saligrama which eventually became a cement roofed hotel .
Have enjoyed ice creams there since 1980 as this place was my grand mothers home . lots of nostalgic moments spent in Saligrama and later in seshadripuram. Loved the episode.
Waah... These are the modern day rishis..., His ideas, ideologies, humility, hardwork, hobby, art, wanting to learn, innovate, create, oohhh.... Everything is great... 🙏🙏🙏....
Very well said, modern day Rishi
+1 on honesty and being so down to earth business owner!
What a sincere , hard-working , honest and old - fashioned gentleman. And , he spoke in Kannada throughout. A gem of a place , with a variety of inexpensive , delicious creamy creations.
More than Ice Cream.. Philosophy of Life he is living is more Touching and Moving.. Wonderful Sir ⚡🌸⚡
Agreed !
Wish there were multiple like button!!! Just fell in love with this particular episode sir… it was quite overwhelming to see genuinely passionate people coming together to put in their best into their work(I mean both you and Mr. Upadhyay)… Definitely a huge fan of ice creams but this episode stood out for many life/ethics/moral take away it offered…
Thank you for this showcase sir, definitely enjoyed spending my 30+ minutes on this…
Remember having visited the original mantap cream parlour in saligrama, my dad used to take me there and the memories are refreshed seeing this...it was a very popular ice cream place in saligram too. Now when I think about it, creating an ice cream place in a small village like a saligram, decades ago is by itself is history in making. Waiting to visit mantap in blore😀
What a gentleman! And it took our dear Kripal to find him and bring his goodness to audiences all over the world! I am an old man now, but I remember visiting Bangalore as it was called back in the 1970s to visit my uncles and there was only one place where we could get ice creams near where my uncle stayed. It was called Lakeway, I think. Between then and now, a true food artist like Mr Upadhyay has undertaken it to create some amazing combinations. Perhaps, before my time comes, I will visit Bengaluru again. I still have sisters, nieces and a nephew and my oldest uncle and aunt there. My guide to eating out will of course be Food Lovers TV.
The ice cream parlour was called Lake View not Lakeway
Lake-view
Yes, my mom would tell be about it and I think lake-view is still there on MG road.
We have visited Mantap Ice cream in Saligrama and in Bangalore for several years. We personally know this person from a long time and we are well wishers of each other. He is a simple, humble, down to earth human being. Mantap Prabhakar Upadhya is not just a well known personality in 'Yakshagaana' who specialises in performing female roles, I consider him a living legend in Yakshagaana. Doesn't he combine his artistic talents in preparing ice creams. Long live Mantap Ice cream and the creator.
It's a privilege to know about people like Mr.Upadhya.. thanks to Food Lovers TV
Mantap ice cream, a must visit, taste on my next Bengaluru visit, thanks for the information, kripal ji
Thanks for the" Food loversTV " youtube channel .....
I am also a fan of the Mantap Ice creams ...
Very delicious, healthy fruites ,and economically best ,the shop is good maintenance , hert fully good services with, quick services and also clean and maintenance ....... Mr. Upadhayay is legend in ice cream field .Hats up Mantap family.👏👏🙏🙏
Those grapes are Bangalore's very own cultivar called 'Bangalore Blues', registered as a Geographical Indication.
We call them Bangalore grapes in Hyderabad. Hyderabad's grapes are green in color.
Mantap ice cream at basaveshwarnagar used to be so nice during our childhood days..thanks Kripal ji for bringing back our childhood memories ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
Mantap Ice cream is part of our childhood memories. It is now part of my child's.. God bless Mr Upadhyay and family.
When someone lives with principles and do business with head high ethics..this is the result. Salute to the entire family. #cool
Idhu vyapara, idhu dharma. Customers na nodi santhosha padthini.
By these words I can say "This person is SWEETEST than his Ice creams".
Amazing transparency very hard to find and dedication to what he does. Impressive journey over the years. Mantap Ice-cream 👍👍👍
Being born n brought in bangalore, I feel sorry for nt knowing Mantap ice cream. Why our news channels didn't shw abt our business ppl n their interviews...they always behind politics...Owner sir is so much honest, good human, and tells we shd follow Dharma in Businness.and always take right profit by not looting public. I feel sorry abt our current generation ppl, they charge so high even for delivery.
One more thing to learn is to use paper box to serve ice cream instead of plastic boxes..u r real inspiration..may u n ur family be happy always sir....
Mantapa Upadhyaya sir, famous yakshagana artist too.. Great work kripal sir.. 🙏
Thank you for visiting mantap ice cream. This was my childhood ice cream shop whenever I visit nearby. Actually shop was in majestic before and now it has been shifted to seshadripuram. Its been nostalgic by seeing your vlog....😊
Great thinking, great idea, best ice Cream.
Wish we Indians supported such amazing local ice-cream shops which are safer than those heaviy chemicalized Baskin Robbins kind of outlets.
The way Mr. Prabhakara Upadhyay spoke, I felt that there is some clam in this fast paced world. It felt very nice to see that this man has ethos in the way he runs his business. Glad I watched this episode.
It’s amazing how kripala sir discovers native eateries in bengaluru and it’s frankly an amazing initiative, supporting local businesses!! Amazing work sir!! I’m definitely trying MANTAP ‘s dry fruit ice cream this weekend 😋
Thanks to Kripal as he's covered the family run business of Mr.Upadhyaya. I also opened an ice cream parlour ( not in Banglore) in Karnatka, Out of passion last year serving publics more than 50 flavours.
Though the business is running medium , have satisfaction serving people with rare variety of Ice creams like mint choco chip, red velvet cheese cake, lemon grass, ginger, Cinnamon, black sesame, litchi etc etc.
He is very honest and, really appreciate.
I tasted mantap ice cream in majestic, awesome taste
Enjoyed this video a lot. The Icecream spread looks Delicious
Nice video, never knew this story behind Mantap although I had seen him on Yakshagana stage and had also visited their restorant at Sastan.... Once again it's proved that you are the best food story teller....
Mantapa Prabhakar Upadhya is a Yakshagaana legend for his nuanced portrayal of female characters. Never knew he is into icecream business!! Happy to see Kripal cover this great man.
This has got to be your tastiest video yet!!!! Sitting here in blistering heat I am drooling and dying to eat those cold sweet delicious desserts!
This video made me crave for ice cream so much that we ordered the ice cream on zomato at the beginning of the video and by the time video was over we relished almost all the flavors that kripal tried in this video..
Ice cream was outta this world.. must try guys...
Happy eating 😋
I love Ice Cream!! Specially Mantap and Lakeview!
What a cool episode. Makes u long for icecream. Very unassuming owner. Your description of every item is fantastic. Loved it 👌
The proud feeling that Mr Upadhyay has that, he never wanted to give it out as a franchise and he wants to run his business based on dharma ...that's when we should realise this is the place where all of must go and support it
whats wrong in giving franchise? Dharma is not anti-Business, Dharma is Business with ethics.
Sucha wonderful human......God bless him......namma kannadigaru baala Chanda guru💚💚💚
In 1984, we use to visit Mantap at Vijayanagar and tasted the gudbud ice cream. It was fantastic.
Tasted Mantap ice cream in 1981 still relishing. Their gadbud and kesar badam kulfi a legend.
100 % plastic free boxes..yummy chill frozen ice creamz from mantap ice creamz a must try spot in #namma bengaluru ..thanks for foodlovers tv for showcasing to public ...
My dad used to take me when I was a kid in Majestic branch which still exists. Their gudbuds were legends then...just love it🤤🤤
Present majestic outlet is not mantap...It is duplicate mantap...Be careful
Great Sir Proude to Saligrama Sri Gurunarishma Swami Bless.
Wow! These Mantap icecream guys were at Basaveshwaranagar. We were regulars there. Shall visit again for sure.
Kripal avaré! Your show is sooooo influential, I went and bought ice creams from Mantap ice creams for my family today 😁 and they loved them 🥰 thank you so much 🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻 this isn't the first time I have visited the place/swiggied the food from the places you cover on your channel! The most influential food blogger award goes to..... Kripal Amanna!😃👏
Its super hot here in Chennai and this video truly made us cool and looking at variety of icecreams we are just drooling 👍🏻😍😊
Thank you so much sir for such a wonderful review on Mantap icecream parlour 🤗 Indeed one of the best parlours it is!!
I had been here few months back. It's really good ice cream parlor.
Also we were visiting this shop when it was near Avenue Road, Bangalore from my childhood..
all products here are of good taste and quality..
Gudbud ice is my favourite at this shop..
Get ready team mantap store ...army of FL TV reaching you ...long que.. stock out..❤️❤️
He is great artist and his social work is unimaginable... Great personality.... You would have mentioned bit on that as well...
What a genuinely warm human being is Mr. Upadhyay !! Extremely impressed 👏
A great artist, a humble human being and a good businessman. I have grown up eating Mantap ice cream in vijayanagar and watching him perform yakshagana. Thanks for introducing him to the world. ❤️
I am from Vijayanagar as well, never heard of this ice cream parlor,my bad
Ben and Jerry's, Haagen Dazs are so so far behind, wow amazing combinations and exotic flavours, the organic jaggery icecream and the mango icecream looks yum, not to mention faluda at the end. I hope you did an hour at the gym afterwards burning off all that sugar though😀 Indian cuisine, together with its master yoghurt, icecream makers and many many more food artisans really don't need international chains in the country providing "competition". You have it all including good coffee, I tried Indian coffee and love the crema as well as the caramel flavours from the coffee beans.
I tried yesterday with my friend.. We tried citaphal slice, fruit blossom, red velvelt and guava chillii.. Guava chilli was very good
Kripalji,Thank you for this episode. Was eagerly waiting for this episode.Looks yummy
Excellent. Nice to see our Udupi people shine in the business with great values.
This man should be given Padma Award for his business ethics. I see over-commercialisation of Icecream shops, having franchisees, exorbitant rates and what not!! Where Success is measured by monetary growth we see someone who wants to test his capabilities but doesn't want to run behind money..
IIM-walo please keep his story as a case study lesson to budding entrepreneurs.. give some gyan about morals and ethics too to start-ups!!!
I was actually getting choked when he spoke so well and sure that ಇವರಂಥವರು ಇರೋದರಿಂದಲೇ ಕಾಲಕಾಲಕ್ಕೆ ಮಳೆ ಬೆಳೆ ಆಗ್ತಿರೋದು
People like him are rare jewels !!
Not after money .. enjoys his work .. loyal to his customers and consciously staying away from plastic..
we need to clone him 😅
I wish to learn ice cream making from him 🙏🏻😂
Thank you for visiting this place Kripal sir, this reminds me of my childhood when my dad used to take me in majestic outlet👍
Mr Upadhyaya is a great yakshagana artist. Salute to him 🙏
I will certainly visit this place... Super presentation

Good morning Kalyani, glad you enjoyed this ice cream special. 😋
His grandfather sounds like my grandfather. A rare breed.
I wonder if I’ve seen somewhere. Perhaps performing an aata at Kateel.
Somehow we must bring back our Bangalore weather to "those days"...
True

I do have to appreciate that you mainly do videos on these "unsung" yet popular local restaurants and don't opt for promoting new restaurants just for money like many food reviewers
Thank you to Mr.Kripal for introducing such a gem in this city. We were searching for ice cream options for our family function and then I find Kripal sir’s video on ice cream.
Today we went to taste their ice cream and now I’m a big fan of their dry fruit ice cream.Just now placed 200 dry fruit ice cream order from mantap.
Thanks again Kripal Amanna
He is such amazing and honest loved it ❤️🙏🏻❤️

Perfect personification of delicious ice creams. Experienced the taste without even tasting them.
I remember as a kid having mantap ice cream, specifically kulfi at majestic. Beside majestic theatre then. It used to be excellent!
