Getting things like stove, fridge, washer, dryer won’t be a problem!!! It’s going to be the longer things like beds, and couches but if you build the gate thing make it wide enough for the bigger items like a couch, desk so they can fit. Those are the headaches

Have the stairway wide enough to lay down like three 2 * 12 and make a ramp going from the tailgate to the stairway cuz you're going to need an appliance dolly as well😂

Why not straight out the door in the middle of the mud room and a nice French door and wide steps? Right in the middle! Not on the right and not on the left. Straight through with a wide stair case. Probably too late now anyway!

Such hard workers 👷👷 🏠 You two truly know what it means to work. Gary, you building this house, is better than a contractor would do. You and Mel have done an outstanding job. I've been with you since the beginning of this journey you are on.
That camper rebuild was amazing. As you say, it doesn't pay to go cheaper or faster. Your garden is amazing. What fun it must be. But a lot of work as well. 😕☺️.
With you two bending and stooping and digging, what a major strain on your backs and hips. I used to work at jobs that were sometimes brutal.🥴🥴. I know what it's like the hard work you two are doing.
At the end of the day I took a nice long warm shower and take an "Aleve" then rest the rest of the night then a good night sleep. Warm Chamomile tea 🙂‍↕️🥱.
    Take care and be well.

    Suggestion:
    1. you could have 2 doors/entry into the mud room.
    2. Sliders all across the front of mud room instead of windows would let a lot more light into mudroom and house!
    Looking good!

That's a lot of zip board. I feel a shop coming in the near future... doing the gate is such a good idea. Not only for moving big stuff but you could also pull up and unload groceries and stuff really easy.
I love watching yall progress. Things area moving fast really, if you think about it. Rome wasn't built in a day and with yalls pace, it gives you the opportunity to kinda live it before it's all done real fast and you leave out something that would be beneficial for the future.

Just an idea for the removable rail section; 4 joist hangers (different than normal hangers because the nailing flanges are inside the hanger not to either side) basically a U shape cap to hang the rail section in. All my garden walls are removable like this.

First I want to say, you guys are doing an awesome job of building your home! And secondly, yall remind me of my husband and myself. We love to “build” and do projects together, and we did about 75% of the work ourselves, when we built our home in 2002. As well as decks, porches, and sheds, etc. on our 5 acre homestead.
I’m watching today’s episode 4/23/2024, and listened to yall saying all the comments that yall had gotten on the mudroom build and its “flow.”
I liked the drawing Gary made, and think that it will look real nice on the front of your home.
However, I have a thought you may want to consider…how about having a set of steps coming down on both ends of the mudroom/porch?? There would be no sharp turns for loading of furniture and/or appliances and any other deliveries. Also, it would make easy access to the carport/shop from the left, and unloading groceries, and guests coming in, etc. from the right side where Tiny is parked??
Anyway, just a thought…which I think would make a really nice addition to the front porch/mudroom and whole appearance of the front of your home!
You guys keep up the hard work; and loving and raising your family to enjoy what means the most in life…family and enjoying the simple things of life!!! Which are always the best and most important things in life!

I’ve refinished 3 houses. I’d sacrifice road space out front to have the steps come straight out. I’ve gone through too many struggles hauling things in/out with tight turns. My second choice would be the way you landed with a gate! All I know is Gary HAS to be sick of figuring out crazy angles from the back deck, so for Gary’s sanity I hope you stick to right angles on this one.😂

My Dad and I mixed so much concrete over the years with the sand, gravel, and water mixture. He used to mix and hand pour concrete for gas stations, parking lots etc. after he got home from WWII. He swore by the 1:2:3 mixture, 1 part concrete mix, 2 parts sand 3 parts gravel then mix and slowly add water until it was the right consistency.
We never had a Pop’s but instead he made an aluminum and wood vat, I used a hoe and mixed while he added ingredients 😅, backbreaking work for sure!!
It’s looking so good!! Y’all two make an awesome team 👍🏻!!
What an ingenious idea Gary, using a gate on the landing ‼️

Have you all thought about building a ramp along with your stairs. We never think of ramps until we need them and not only cause we're old but just if there's an accident and you're on a wheelchair. I know cause it happened to my daughter when she was in high school, my husband messed his knee at work and I feel on our stairs and broke my ankle where I needed 9 screws and a metal plate. So we built our stairs with a ramp next to them. Just a thought of experience. 😘
