  • The two Tyseley Castles, 5043 Earl of Mount Edgcumbe and 7029 Clun Castle made steam preservation history as both of them hauled a railtour up the famous Lickey Incline making it the first time that double headed castles were in action up the Lickey Iin steam preservation history. It was a great ending to otherwise a pretty disappointing day. With the weather being so hot, 5043 Earl of Mount Edgcumbe and 7029 Clun Castle worked a bit but the diesel on the back was doing most of the work making the shots a bit null and void. However, I decided to head to the Lickey despite being caught in some thundery showers whilst waiting for the Castles. The rain stopped as the Castles can be heard powering and whistling through Bromsgrove. The two Castles sounded absolutely stunning and the crew was in a great mood and made it an awesome spectacle with a couple of whistles and a diesel on idle. 5043 Earl of Mount Edgcumbe and 7029 Clun Castle were simply incredible with their distinctive and deafening Great Western Bark echoing up the Lickey Hills and woods it was a moment I'll never forget.
Massive kudos go to Vintage Trains, Tysele Locomotive Works, The crew on both engines and all the staff who worked on the tour for making this occasion a sight to behold. Without some unfortunate circumstances with postponements hampering the event as well as the hot and humid weather, the day was a great success, and let's hope the same for both the two Iconic Great Western Castles.

Well that's equal to about load 14 at least, as the 47 wasn't helping at all. Very very impressive

It's always nice when steamies whistle for the camera. I can remember one sunshiny Llangollen Railway day, when 3802 was running. The engine had gone under Green Lane Bridge to go beyond the points, and then waited for one of the dolly ground signals to be pulled off. As she backed down, I rather cheekily made a sign of whistle and her Driver tugged the whistle chain and gave two sharp toots at my camera. It's a good job the steamies weren't running in hot sunshine, the risk of lineside fires would have been too great.

At least there was a properly decent load behind for once. Usually a Castle manages ti look good but with just seven behind!!!!!
