This lady's career spans 7 decades. She was a singer songwriter with a very sultry voice. She started during the big band era in the 40's. Lee provided the speaking & singing voices for several characters in the Disney movie "Lady & The Tramp" (1955). She also co-wrote, with Sonny Burke all of the original songs for the film including "He's A Tramp" & "Siamese Cat Song". Some of her other hits were "Is That All There Is" & "Big Spender etc.

My mom played piano for her at The Powers Hotel in Fargo North Dakota in the 1930s, when she was starting out. Norma Deloris Egstrom was Peggy Lee's birth name. I don't think that they got on well together, Mom went on to play organ in church for 50 years!

This song is an iconic, American classic. It was first recorded by Little Willie John, whose version is quite good. The man was an underrated talent who left us too soon. But, this version by Peggy Lee is the definitive version. It's appeal lies in the fact that it is so organic. A great voice, minimalistic production using an upright, acoustic bass, the fantastic analog reverb from Capitol records and the right touches on percussion. Your reference to Erykah Bahdu isn't crazy at all. I can hear it. Also, I have no doubt that you've heard it before. A jillion folks have covered it, most recently, Cedrice on the last season of "The Voice". Her video has over 3 million views.

November is Alzheimers awareness month so I am requesting that you react to Glenn Campbell's final recording after being diagnosed with Alzheimers in his early 70s. After his diagnosis he toured doing nearly 150 concerts in North America and Europe from August 2011 to November 2012. He was able to continue playing guitar by what is referred to as muscle memory, something you can do because you have done it so long that you can do it without thinking about it. His final recording was in 2014 and the name was I'm Not Going To Miss You. Please dedicate to all families suffering with this horrid disease.

Heard the Cello in this song. If you want to hear some mindblowing cello check out 2CELLOS covering THUNDERSTRUCK, an AC/DC'S SONG.

I believe Elvis did a cover of this. That could be where you have heard it.
