I have used the Zoom F3 extensively both as a recorder and as an interface. Works flawlessly. Works great with lav mics too if you use a 3.5mm to XLR adapter. I’ve more or less switched over to the Rode Wireless Pros for lav work now, but the F3 still gets a lot of use.
This lav solution is a great point!!
So true, Mark. I've got the F3 and I love it. Amazing little device that has so much advantage for a price that doesn't break the bank!
Mark I just wanted to drop a note to say thank you. I have been spending an unhealthy amount of time with your channel lately but I have learned so much. I am just getting into photography\videography and you have taught me a lot. I have made several purchases through you channel and can see more on the way. Thanks again and have a great day.
That is nice to hear!! Thanks for saying that.
I love my Zoom F3. It is a fantastic investment. And it makes production SO much smoother when you record vocals with that tiny little gem. No need to carry around an awkward bag of cables and stuff.
Already have the F3 and know how to use it but will still watch this because I find your videos entertaining 😎👍
This makes you a good person
Curious how other people use it. You missed the backup channel. A really nice selling point. Mine is being delivered to the Philippines by a friend coming in country. So for now, I am pining for my F3. FYI: there is a Tim Hortons across from my condo building. Nice little talk and I appreciate that you're not a pro sound nerd.
Great job on the video Mark! Thanks for making it.
Thanks, again!!
I can't imagine what 64 bit audio will be when we have Zoom F3 V2 whenever that comes out
Another great video - your channel is simply the go-to for camera knowledge! I have a few questions :)
1) Do you have any recommendations for attaching the F3 to a camera that doesn't leave it dangling around?
2) I'm surprised you didn't list the Shure SM7B alongside the shotgun mics - why is that?
3) Once you have a mic + xlr cable + zoom F3 do you need anything else, e.g. preamp, an audio interface or are you finally good to go?
Never would have guessed you were a comedian. And I've been watching you for months. I thought you were just another pro photographer.
haha - I guess I am too boring in these vids 😂
I was just about to get the Zoom F3 recently but I bumped into a used Sound Devices MixPre 3 II in excellent condition for $200 more. So in order to future proof my audio I got that and couldn't be happier. Probably an overkill for my use but paired with the MKH 50 it sounds incredible and this looks like the last audio setup I have ever bought.
That is an insane deal for the mixpre
Nice! The ZOOM F3 is IMO one of the best investments you can make to up your audio game!
It really is! Now I just need your radio voice to make it sound better
Appreciate the sub Mark. I love the F3.....excited for the R4
You and Bronson (Audio Hotline) and Curtis Judd are my audio go-to!!
@@MarkBennettCameraCrisis those guys are way too good to be associated with me lol
great channel , we jsut bought the sony zve10 and the 11mm lense after watching loads of your videos , so wanted to pop in and just say thank you
You’re welcome!!
The new Zoom R4 is definitely a go for me. Can't wait!
That looks amazing!!
Nice tip Mark
I'm using UAD Volt 1 and a Rode NT5 for capture my audio, Actually it's an audio interface for PC and music works, But it dose work with a smart phone USB-C powered! So I'm happy with what.
Dang... I was debating buying this thing and decided I was good for now but then you drop this video... Is that a sign?!?
clearly 🤣
Hi Mark, love your videos. I shoot video for a watch shop and when I do, I mic up the owner with a DJI mic. He’s constantly moving around and isn’t always stationary. Would the F3 be something you would recommend to get? If so, what would you recommend the set up be like? Thanks.
Zoom does such a great job.
Been using them for years
@@MarkBennettCameraCrisis Yep
Love 32-bit. I went with Tascam X8 and the sound is amazing. Great video Mark
I was JUST about to buy that right before the F3 was announced
I had no idea you did standup comedy! Standup is also my day job and I self-record all my shows, your camera advice has been super helpful! How do you handle recording audience audio? I always have trouble trying to isolate the laughter from the voice track (recorded as output from the house mixer) and it’s usually a mixing puzzle to make the voice clear while also having the laughs in there.
I take two zoom h4n recorders. I record the audience with the on board mics on the h4n in the room and I take the mic feed from the board into the other zoom recorder. you need to turn the input volume way down or use a -20 dB attenuator
Hi Im new to camera's and stuff can you help me decide
ZVE10 w/ Sigma 56mm 1.4 or Canon R50 50mm 1.8
I love my Zoom F3 and, yes, I bought two as well. My only complaint is that using two condenser mics with 48v Phantom power, it eats up the 2-AA batteries pretty quick. No worries though, I just plug it into a power-bank , via the USB port, and I can go for hours and hours. Pop on a RØDE, XLR to 3.5mm jack adaptor, plug in a decent Lavalier, and stow it away someplace on your body and BOOM! a perfect (although a bit bulky) body pack recorder. Most of the time it's mounted on my rigs rod system (with everything else) and I've got an XLR assault setup.........I think that still legal in the States..... LOL. Thanks Mark
great idea with the lav!!
Hello! 😊 Can I use the F3 to record calls made from an iPhone 15 that has a USB-C port?
I was keen to know about your review on F3. I wish to see your review on Zoom R4 which will come for sale in December. 👍
I would like to see that too!!
The comedian you’d have a lot of difficulty recording would be Jim Breuer. Loudest I’ve ever seen in person. The Zoom F3 would help.
the sound guys definitely need 32 -but float for Breuer 🤣
😂
Hey Mark! Love your videos!
I have one question regarding nd filters.
Should I use the 55mm nd filter for a 55mm lens (Sony 15mm f1.4) or a 58mm nd filter with a stepup ring?
I heard this could avoid vignetting. Is that true?
yes, it’s always best to use a filter that fits your lens to ensure vignetting won’t be an issue. But I’m sure you can use one step up ring in the 55 with no issue
Thank you for your reply! But is it better to use a 58mm filter with a stepup ring or a 55mm filter which fits right on the lens?@@MarkBennettCameraCrisis
Cant wait for the review of the new ZV1-II
I did a review of the zv1 mark ii when it came out 👍ua-cam.com/video/mToyyZlptJY/v-deo.htmlsi=Oelnktbr9ZQdhRlt
To stay on the audio topic, what are your thoughts on the new budget Ulanzi U-Mic AM18 wireless mic system?
Also Toronto winters are fine. You could be living in Winnipeg!
I am afraid of Winnipeg as any sensible person should be. I will be reviewing The U-Mic For sure.
Can you maybe do a video on how you edit sound in post like what apps you use etc.? Great video like always. Thanks again.
In this video, I did absolutely nothing except set the volume in post. Just straight into final cut
Perfect, thanks again. I have the Zoom F-2 but the volume comes out faint sometimes. I increase the volume in Capcut for Mac (editor I'm using) but figure maybe normalizing the audio is best first. Thanks again.@@MarkBennettCameraCrisis
for normalizing, I usually use a limiter so I can raise the volume to get my overall volume at -16 LUFS, but keep everything from hitting a max of -1.6 dB
Hi Mark,, can you show your studio room?? My room is too small, to shoot talking head videos.
you can see the studio here basically. it’s a small 7X7 room with a 5 foot ceiling ua-cam.com/video/w0X7z1j9jJU/v-deo.htmlsi=3q52Kn2UGRjX6FWz
I saw it yesterday on BH. it was 50.00 off regular price.
on got mine on sale for that too!!
Quick tips: Do not buy the Bluetooth adapter. Useless. You can only control it by F3 OR Phone. It will disable the other. Once you are out of the range of the connection, you will need to turn off the F3 and turn it back on to reconnect.
Good to know!!

Really? Where are you located?
Caribbean but I've clicked and used your links before. That was from my phone. Let me try via desktop .
@@MarkBennettCameraCrisis
Mark - it was something with my phone. via desktop it worked fine. Thank you and you can disregard that.
Side note - where do we see your films of your comedy and such? I love your sense of humour. @@MarkBennettCameraCrisis
And last reply, pinky promise, this post filled a need I knew I had but didn't know how to fit it, I was going to buy the new 32bit float Rode wireless mics and I still may, but this is a great help as it would be an upgrade to use, regardless of which mic setup I have.
