First off, it's hard for me to even imagine someone beating Lincoln! My heart hurts for him, I've always been a fan.

I watched this match back during the Olympics and felt so bad for Lincoln. Looking at it now after so many years, I still enjoyed it but felt less of the frustration that Lincoln couldn't pull it out. Daniel Igali was a wonderful wrestler to watch, fluid but powerful. I wonder what those fellas are doing today.

At that level, it all comes down to conditioning, doesn't it? I mean Dan Gable type conditioning, thinking of Ironside vs Kolat, the only difference really was Ironside's coach (Gable) and that fact that he had a strong difference in wind. I don't think these two guys had any difference in raw strength or talent, or smarts. Both great wrestlers.

@@jimquantic agreed but Lincoln never had a problem with his gas tank. He usually started slow in college but broke guys late and I mean broke them for five takedowns in the last minute. He ran guys into the ground. I just rewatched the national finals vs Abas 16-15 he won and it was all late after being down big. That was not uncommon from him. He had beat Igali that time he kept calling injury time but it seemed Igali had his number. These guys were so close litterally that out our bounds head flip which was crazy and the almost takedown before could have easily made the difference. I would say Igali’s edge with all the other attributes being pretty even were that he was more athletic and faster. Also Im sure Lincoln spending a lifetime competing in a different style at the highest level could have been a factor as well. Some of these great folk style guys aren’t quite as good in freestyle.

the wizzer-leg-kick cartwheel counter at 0:57 is insanely difficult and genius. If you've wrestled, imagine your oppo has a wizzer, levers down on it and kicks back, and you just go with it so hard that you cartwheel in the air, never exposing your back, which is 2 points in freestyle. That move stuck in my head the first time I saw it, and if you love wrestling, watch it again bro, it's gorgeous

ya you 100% right, i've had something similar happen to me in a match, but they still gave my opponent back exposure points, and it was right at the end of the last round, 3/3 and I won by criteria because I pushed him out of bounds after he got the back exposure. highlight of my canada games :D

Every single Lincoln match u watch his opponent catches their breath with injury times. Either he goes that hard and they are really banged up or he goes so hard they have to fake to catch their breath!

This is how it should be No matches on an Olympic level should end with a win on a tie! Go sudden death till a score. Pushes the action and excitement even more. Who scored first? who had the bigger move? Who scored last means they were finishing stronger. One guy could have one lucky big throw but given up several technical takedowns. It seems absolutely silly to me that criteria even exist at this level. U train four years to wrestle a few matches in two days and win or lose with the same score! It’s absurd. They need a better system. It should be on their feet sudden death first takedown wins.

There should be penalties for injury timeouts. This is ridiculous.

@Daytona, by the look on Lincoln's face he thought the Canadian was just faking an injury to get his breath. To me the Canadian lost.

If Lincoln didn’t make that dumb mistake in the beginning, he would’ve won

He won with cowardice. The main hero is Lincoln. All awake consciences know this. Because he constantly abused opportunities and rested. Or he pretended to be injured and rested and recovered. At that time, such unscrupulous wrestlers would have been warned and fined by giving points to other wrestlers.
