2:25 wonder what Kerry was fussing about when he slapped the mat

Kerry was upset because he felt that his knee didn't touch in the sequence at the end of regulation. If Brand isn't awarded that point, Boumans heads into OT with a 2-1 lead.

the flip to get out of the single leg at 4:38 was spectacular by Boumans.

WOW that pin was practically given to him. What a way to win a title match. I bet huge heartbreaker than anyone can imagine for Kerry.
I wrestled with Kerry in high school, he was 3 grades up. He's a great guy. I could almost take him, almost. But almost isn't enough, he was 3 years older and experienced, so it's expected. If i recall correctly, he was +100-0 when he graduated high school.

Should have been using replay and challenge. It’s such a quick thing for a short match get it right. Also matches should never end on criteria at this level. It’s like a tie in the NFL so silly. All the work you put in for four years to have the same score but the guy score first or had a Bigger point move lmao. You go OT till a takedown.

@@tmt1675 the match ended when Brands scored the required third point (or more) at the very end. In those days, matches went into overtime if neither person had reached the required three point minimum score. With takedowns being only one point a piece back then, having a three point minimum to prevent overtime was FILA's (UWW's predecessor) way of encouraging scoring for both wrestlers.

Terry Brand's finals matches in the Olympic trials in 96 and 2000 against Cross and Boumans were instant classics, great viewing.

Many people ask, “What would Jesus do?” I often ask “What would a Brands brother do?”

I whish ufc would of been around for the brand brothers. It would of been interesting to see them due it. I am not personal a fan of ufc. To much look at me stuff. I prefer humility.

they are both very vocal about their lack of interest in the sport. It was definitely around at this time, they just had little interest in it from what I gather.

FuzzyFurr125 that, and I think they were too light, they wrestled at like 128 and fly weight which is 125 wasn’t around at the time and neither was bantamweight which was 135 and considering that in the beginning there weren’t any weight classes at all they would have had to fight guys who were like 160 or higher

The end of that match just shows the type of wrestlers gable produced. He recruited guys that were just like himself. Brands had the match won and the Olympic spot, and he was still looking for the fall. It shows you for them that it's not enough to just win.

    • @justaguy4real

Looking for the fall??? That pin was sheer luck that Kerry nearly gave it to him. So brands did was wrestle defense and counter as boumans was the aggressor the entire match.

What a match. But stupid ref didn’t call the fall!

very close match. Id say Brands was stronger, but Boumans was super aggressive.

Boumans fought better in my opinion, he is an adventurer risky guy. He had no choice but to stake Olympic ticket!

The Brands show very poor sportsmanship when they wrestle. I've seen a lot of Olympic wrestlers take time to shake hands and congratulate their opponents but have never seen the Brand brothers do the same.

American wrestling is All about power , slapping , no Art in it ,what is that?
no wonder why he lost to Alireza Dabir after that in the 2000 Sydney Olympics ,although Terry elbowed and slapped and head butted him all through the match , he lost in the End because he only relied on power and no brain and technique .
Iranian Wrestling is an Art ,and Philosophy , all about morality , beautiful Techniques and movement ,timing and smart wrestling .
today the American Wrestling is much better and it is completely clear why.
due to years and years of their exposure to eastern freestyle wrestling ,specially Iranian wrestling rather that Russian type has made American wrestling a much better and more beautiful sport .
wrestler with the morality of a thug ,
that is why WWE catch wrestling is much more popular that Freestyle Wrestling in the US while in Iran , the audience alone is half of the event and i think American wrestlers experienced real wrestling arena atmosphere for the first time in Iran. that's what Many of them have admitted .
but i admit that the US has had a major role in keeping this fine sport in the Olympics while they have been trying to take it out of Olympics sports .
anyways , the rivalry between Russia ,the US and Iran have made it much more exciting in the recent years .
    Wrestling forever .

Arzhang Emamifar well the US men's Senior freestyle team just won a Gold medal. First time in 23 years. USA offers way more than strength. They are super technical now. The days of that brute shit are far gone.

American folkstyle is all about control. In freestyle, guys roll around and points are given away so quickly, even the refs don't know what is happening. Freestyle has so much luck involved. Wrestling should be about control, not just rolling around.

Probably some truth in that. We’ve gotten a lot better technically in the past decade or two.
And oh yeah: I watched the USA take third place at the world championships in Kazakhstan last year - Iran behind USA in fourth place!!!
