- Hi everyone, I usually share my passion for snowkiting with you in a positive and joyful way.
This time I want to share with you our mishap that happened to us with my friend Lionel and myself last Wednesday, January 20th 2021, on the North-East face of the Chaillol ridge at the Col du Lautaret (Serre Chevalier Briançon, Monetier-Les-Bains sector, Hautes-Alpes 05, France).
Lionel and I made the decision to share this video with the aim of raising awareness about the risks of avalanches in the mountains, and also with the aim of telling you what happened that day.
At the moment the snowpack is unstable, it is risky to venture into slopes of more than 30%.
We had an incredible chance to make it out alive, especially Lionel, and we are aware of it.
It is important to remember that we must all be equipped with avalanche transceivers, shovels and probes when we venture into the mountains, it can save our lives.
Lionel got away with a sprained ligament in his knee, it could have been much worse.
I would like to thank the person who joined me to help Lionel, whom I thought was under the avalanche, it turned out that Lionel managed to get out of the avalanche on his own.
There were therefore no seriously injured or dead victims in this avalanche.
May this video serve as a lesson to all of us, we are never safe from an avalanche triggered accidentally or whose origin is natural.
My friends, be careful in your mountain activities, we will never repeat it enough, go out equipped and informed.

Salut tout l'monde, j'ai pour habitude de vous partager ma passion pour le snowkite de façon positive et joyeuse.
Cette fois-ci je veux partager avec vous notre mésaventure qu'il nous est arrivé avec mon ami Lionel et moi-même Mercredi dernier, le 20 Janvier 2021, sur la face Nord-Est de la crête de Chaillol au Col du Lautaret (Serre Chevalier Briançon, secteur du Monetier-Les-Bains, Hautes-Alpes 05).
Lionel et moi-même avons pris la décision de partager cette vidéo dans un but de sensibilisation aux risques d'avalanches en montagne, et aussi dans le but de vous dire ce qu'il s'est passé ce jour là.
En ce moment le manteau neigeux est instable, il est risqué de s'aventurer dans les pentes de plus de 30%.
Nous avons eu une chance inouïe de s'en sortir vivant, surtout Lionel, et nous en sommes conscient.
Il est important de nous rappeler que nous devons toutes et tous être équipés de DVA, pelle et sonde lorsque nous nous aventurons en montagne, cela peut nous sauver la vie.
Lionel s'en est sorti avec une entorse du ligament au genou, cela aurait pu être bien pire.
Je tiens à remercier la personne qui m'a rejoint au secours de Lionel, que je croyais sous l'avalanche, il s'est avéré que Lionel à réussi à se dégager de l'avalanche par lui-même.
Il n'y a donc eu aucune victime gravement bléssée ou décédée dans cette avalanche.
Que cette vidéo nous serve à toutes et tous de leçon, nous ne sommes jamais à l'abris d'une avalanche déclenchée accidentellement ou dont l'origine est naturelle.
Mes ami(e)s, soyez prudents dans vos activités de montagne, on le répètera jamais assez, sortez équipés et renseignés.

I'm so glad you are all okay after that! Amazing footage that you captured this on camera too. Good lesson for anyone snowkiting and great recommendations for the safety gear you should have with you when doing kiting in the mountains.
Your friend on the orange kite did a fantastic job of trying to get airborne like that to get out of harm's way. Was it intentional I wonder or was it something to do with the wind floe generated by the avalanche?

1 year ago yesterday, a friend was killed in a backcountry ski avalanche here in Idaho. RIP Phil.
What a bummer !!! A massive loss. So sorry to hear you lost a dear friend in the back country.

Wow, just the other day I had a discussion with my parents about if escaping avalanches with a kite could be possible, cause we thought of starting to snowkite more, and just a few days later here is the perfect video I wanted.

looks like the airflow push him upward, he would have stayed up there if hew didn't full send the megaloop.

I'm so glad no one died or was seriously injured. By the way, nice style throwing that casual kiteloop and back roll all the while oblivious to the avalanche starting way up high in the background. Also, it looks like you first kited into a wind lull in the gully, realized you didn't want to be positioned so low with the avalanche fast approaching, but then as the wind picked up figured that was your chance to power across the gully to get out of the way. Way to keep your head about you in a desperate situation!!

Have you ever been in an avalanche?
I haven't been in one, but i once got my season Passes clipped because i ducked an avalanche rope at Solitude mountain in Utah.
I was not experienced yet, and i ignorantly ducked a rope.
Ski patrol followed me down the Honeycomb Canyon and then escorted me to the Sheriff and i got a ticket plus lost my seasin passes.
I learned a valuable lesson that day...
Know the mountain and do not disobey the signs posted by the local ski patrol. They are there to keep us safe!!!

the snow avalanche bring air big movements with it, probably for this reason the kiter was taken aback, this seemed lightly not too big, landing in moved snow should not be very hard, in any case better to move away if possible

C'est clair on est vraiment sur de la pseudo pédagogie là. Le problème c'est pas d'avoir un kit de sécurité mais plutôt de taper des bords à un endroit hyper exposé..
On apprend tous de nos expériences, et cette vidéo sert justement de retour d’expérience pour que cela n’arrive pas à d’autres usagers de la montagne et notament aux snowkiters qui pratiquent cette activité au Lautaret. Pour ma part je ne faisais pas de pause devant cette face de Chaillol, et j’étais à proximité de la crête sur laquelle j’ai pu me mettre à l’abris. Sinon oui j’aime bien le saucisson et le vin dans des circonstances plus cool 😉
@@Herooooos si cette « pseudo pédagogie » peut alerter mes ami(e)s snowkiters sur le risque d’avalanche alors c’est bien le principal. Effectivement c’est mieux de savoir « lire » le manteau neigeux et les conditions météo en montagne pour éviter ce genre d’accidents. On peut en parler à l’occasion si tu passes à Serre Che 😉

Bonjour, dire qu'il faut toujours être équipé d'un DVA, d'une pelle et d'une sonde quand on pratique le sport en montagne (hivernale) est bien entendu exagéré, tout dépend où.
Ça va de soit que je dis ça dans le cas d’une pratique sportive en montagne.

Je dis que DVA, pelle et sonde ne sont pas toujours nécessaires lors d'une pratique sportive en montagne (l'hiver). Ce n'est pas parce qu'on se trouve en montagne non sécurisée l'hiver qu'on est menacé par les avalanches. Avoir une pelle dans le sac peut même représenter un danger.
@@darth_patzer c’est toujours mieux d’avoir son équipement DVA/pelle/sonde sur soit que de rien avoir lorsqu’on part pratiquer un sport en montagne. C’est mon point de vue, et c’est le point de vue de beaucoup de professionnels de la montagne.
@@loloBSD Les mêmes professionnels qui vont te dire ça ne vont pas le faire systématiquement. Ils sauront faire la part des choses entre un site même légèrement exposé où ils seront équipés et un site tajours à risque 0 faute pentes suffisantes. Il y a par exemple un site de kite pas loin de chez moi où il n'y a aucun risque d'avalanche, réellement aucun.
La présence d'une pelle dans le sac peut représenter un danger, c'est pas en caoutchouc ces trucs.
J'ai moi-même des compétences dans le domaine de la neige et des avalanches reconnues à un niveau fédéral, mais bon, c'est pas terrible les arguments d'autorité.
@@darth_patzer oui je comprends bien que sur un plateau où un spot plat l’équipement DVA/pelle/sonde n’est pas forcément très utile, mais dans cette vidéo je parle bien du risque d’avalanche en montagne dans les faces de 30 degrés et plus.
