    Got a Gaggia Classic Pro for Christmas. Used your videos to set it up. Thank you for the clear explanations and step-by-step instructions-better than the manual by far. Went well-aside from steam jetting out the bottom of the portafilter (the factory had inserted the 2 shot basket instead of non-pressurized one with the jet frother by default, so when we swapped them out thinking it was non-pressurized setup, hilarity ensued). Easy fix once we realized it. Pulled first shot with beans from local coffee shop, and it was great. Thanks again.

    Hey Mate. So glad I found you channel the other day. Very very informative and simple, as you wanted :)
    I took delivery yesterday of my new machines, which turned out to be the exact same set-up as you. I followed your steps exactly, and my first coffee was actually ok. I was expecting it to be terrible :P
    After following your settings, though, my puck had an over-dose and came out way too quick. Is this because I am not tamping hard enough or do I need to reduce the stock by a gram or too?
    Cheers

      Hey Marty, thank you for the kind words and congrats on your new coffee setup 😁
      Have a look at our Espresso 101 video, it might help you out. It might be that your grind is too coarse, or your dose is too small. It's also possible that there was some channelling going on. It's very difficult to diagnose something without seeing it, but hopefully this comment and our other video will help you 😊

    Hey TMB, great info and advice!
    2 questions, is it safe to keep the Gaggia Classic Pro powered on idle for most of the day? Generally will be making minimal amounts of espressos (up to 3) though will temps stay optimal?
    Secondly; if my grinder hopper has finished the beans and I can see oil residue should I clean the plastic hopper or safe to refill with new beans?
    Thanks

    • @tmb-themajesticbeanchannel1746
      @tmb-themajesticbeanchannel1746  3 роки тому +1

      I'm not sure if it's a good idea to have it on all day, I usually turn it off when I'm done & turn it back on when I want to use it again.
      I clean my grinders once a month, but if the beans are oily I'd recommend doing it more often.

    • @d8alus
      @d8alus 2 роки тому

      That little black pin is only for the pressurized basket (e.g. for pre-ground coffee). If your coffee is ground to espresso fineness, you should not use the pin or the basket with the small hole area. They install the pressurized basket in the portafilter from the factory, probably so the pin doesn't get lost.

    did I miss something or why this procedure is needed?

    • @d8alus
      @d8alus 2 роки тому

      All of the parts are clean from the factory, but haven't been exposed to hot water. This procedure flushes everything in the water path with hot water, getting rid of any small bits of schmutz that may have lingered (e.g. some bits of styrofoam from the packaging, etc), or that require temperature to remove (e.g. residue from anything involved in the machining or manufacturing process).
      And this purges any air from the lines, especially the lines connected to the steam wand, which has a tricky valve in the way that expects to be fully wet to work properly.
