  • Some of the most well-known verses in the sermon on the mount are from Matthew 7:13-14. In this sermon, Tim considers the voice of Christ and his sayings from Matthew 7. Where Christ spoke words that are serious and sobering and yet both glorious at the same time.

Dear Brother Tim..what CHRIST is doing in the passage about our "righteousness exceeding the Scribes and the Pharisees" is setting an impossible standard that is designed to shift our dependence upon our own ability to dependence on HIM for salvation..now, once that transition is made, the new birth takes place and the new nature inherited will produce the desire for righteousness that results in sanctification. The justification being all of HIM, the sanctification involving us appropriating the power of the SPIRIT to cleanse ourselves.

Brother, it is an absolute blessing to hear of Christ through the hole in your face. The sermon on the Mount series kept me afloat through a self-inflicted darkness, had I not heard it, it wouldn't have been revealed to me that I am totally screwed. Just before watching this I just went on a hunt on how 'God sits on the praise of His people'?? Looking for that ended up looking at/for repentance, the words of Jesus (Rev 22) come, all, whosoever, repent, believe, all, come, many, few, knowledge, judgement, faith, repentance, surrender, ALL IN OR OUT. You know.... love you Ps Tim, thank you, and especially,

I am a dog and I've lied to myself and to the Lord for way too long, I have bought disgrace to the precious blood of Christ. I pray my wife is safe. "My sheep HEAR My Voice".
Reading the bible should not be conflated with hearing Jesus' Voice.
John 6:39 And this is the Father's will which hath sent me, that of all which he hath given me I should lose nothing, but should raise it up again at the last day. Since when have goats ever became sheep?
How can: "Few be that find it, become: "A great multitude that no one can number"?
God will not deny one of His.

Ps Conway -- I have a small question for you -- I am a relatively new Christian who in my ignorance made a number of resolutions/promises to the Lord that I found hard to keep over time. I realised that it was impacting my health, but I also know that verses like Numbers 30:2 require us to keep our vows and oaths... Does this mean that God will not release me from my promises? As far as I know, I have repented and believed in Christ and am making my way through the Sermon on the Mount... Can I be released from promises?

And, behold, one came and said unto him, Good Master, what good thing shall I do, that I may have eternal life? And he said unto him, Why callest thou me good? there is none good but one, that is, God: but if thou wilt enter into life, keep the commandments. He saith unto him, Which? Jesus said, Thou shalt do no murder, Thou shalt not commit adultery, Thou shalt not steal, Thou shalt not bear false witness, Honour thy father and thy mother: and, Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself. The young man saith unto him, All these things have I kept from my youth up: what lack I yet? Jesus said unto him, If thou wilt be perfect, go and sell that thou hast, and give to the poor, and thou shalt have treasure in heaven: and come and follow me. But when the young man heard that saying, he went away sorrowful: for he had great possessions. Then said Jesus unto his disciples, Verily I say unto you, That a rich man shall hardly enter into the kingdom of heaven. And again I say unto you, It is easier for a camel to go through the eye of a needle, than for a rich man to enter into the kingdom of God. When his disciples heard it, they were exceedingly amazed, saying, Who then can be saved? But Jesus beheld them, and said unto them, With men this is impossible; but with God all things are possible.

I am always blessed by Pastor Tim's preaching - and this is another excellent sermon - with which I agree wholeheartedly. But I am somewhat confused. I am sorry, but as a non-Calvinist - I just don't get Calvinism. However, if I did not know, I never would have thought this was a sermon preached by a Calvinist. Please understand that I am not being critical - just confused - and please do not remove my comment as it is presented in love. ..... Here are some thoughts ...
[1] If Pastor's message is for Calvinists - why the desperate plea to make sure they are on the narrow road? Surely, all Calvinists are on the narrow road? They are the "elect" and they have been pre-determined by a sovereign God to continue in the faith until the end. Yet, Pastor says "The worst possible scenario is that YOU are wrong?" He is concerned that they are NOT saved? But if so, then it was God's determined plan for them from the beginning. And they cannot cry out to God for mercy because - unless they are one of the "elect" - they do not have the free will to do so.
[2] Who really are the "elect"? Are they Calvinists or non-Calvinists? Or maybe a mixture of both?
[3] Maybe Pastor is preaching to the non-Calvinists like myself? We are the ones that should consider and make sure that we are on the narrow road (I agree). But what if we discover we are on the wrong road? Can we cry out to God for mercy? Apparently not. We do not have the free will to do so - unless we were predestined before the foundation of the world to change our viewpoint, and become one of the "elect."
Of course, none of this really matters if everything has been pre-determined by our sovereign God. Those who God wants in heaven - will get there, and those He has destined for hell, will not. In which case, I suppose we just need to give ourselves up to the sovereignty of God - and not worry about it at all?
Notice Jesus said, "Few find it" (the narrow road) indicating they should be looking for it. That makes more sense - because Jesus and the apostles all PLEAD with men to hear the voice of Christ, look for the narrow road, and make a choice to follow Him.
Pastor says, "Jesus says, 'ENTER' and if you don't enter its because you WON'T ENTER" - this is because you "REFUSE." "Jesus' call demands a DECISION." That is true - but is that Calvinism? Surely, Calvinism preaches that God has already chosen who will respond. The "many" do not enter the narrow gate NOT because they WILL NOT do so - but because they have been pre-determined NOT TO do so - according to Calvinism. Jesus demands a decision - but they are unable to do so - if they were not chosen before the foundation of the world. Do you see why I am confused?
Jesus calls ALL men and all must make a decision. All men need to search for the narrow way, and make an effort to enter in through the narrow gate. These are all responses of a man who has been blessed by God with free-will. If ALL men cannot search and find this way, and respond to the voice of Jesus, and then enter in - then a great deal of Scripture must be completely ignored. If salvation is only for the "elect" chosen few - who will come anyway at sometime to Jesus - then there is no need to plead for people to strive, to search, and make a decision now. What about those poor souls who were never chosen, who hear your message and strive to enter in - but cannot. How sad and angry will they feel after hearing your sermons and trying to follow Jesus all their lives - only to be told on the Last Day that they were never chosen by God in the first place. They will have a good case to bring before the Righteous Judge.
Pastor says that his sermon may sound rather Arminian. Yes, it does, and many do - that is why I enjoy them. But you cannot be all things to all men. Scripture clearly says that Moses calls us to "choose life", Joshua calls us to "choose this day whom you will serve." How can we do this if God has not blessed us with the free will to do so? Also how can He one day judge us - if we have not ALL been given the choice to reject Him? Jesus clearly says, "The one who REJECTS Me and does not receive My words, has a judge. The words I have spoken will judge him on that Last Day." (John 12:48) Jesus is speaking about ALL men - not the non-elect - because the non-elect are NOT GIVEN A CHANCE TO REJECT HIM - because they were chosen for damnation before the foundation of the world. ALL men will be judged the same way. All the callings, pleadings of God for man to search for Him, to come to Him, to hear His voice, to make a choice, to receive or reject Him are clearly laid out in God's Word. To ignore these words but add others that say we have already been elected or rejected before these Scriptures were even written - is surely heretical.
[4] Maybe I am wrong - but Calvinists never really seem that joyful. Surely, if they have been predestined before the foundation of the world to go to heaven and cannot lose their salvation - there should be a lot more rejoicing in their churches. There should also be a lot more evangelism - to reach the non-Calvinists with the truth. But in a way, those destined for heaven will get there whether we witness to them or not. Of course, if you do not really know IF you are one of the elect - then that would cause great confusion and despair.
I hope I have not upset anyone with my ramblings, I did get rather carried away .... please feel free to tell me I am completely wrong. God bless you all.

@@rosscaruso1628 Thank you so much for your comments Ross - it is great to hear I am not alone. A lady recently replied to another comment I made on a sermon by Pastor Tim - expressing the same confusion. I think it is because Pastor Tim's sermons never seem to be overtly Calvinistic in nature. He often says that we must "endure to the end" in order to be saved. I commented on one video that as a non-Calvinist I totally agreed - and maybe he was now leaning to the other side! My comment was removed.
I have attended several churches with Calvinist pastors over the years - although never being convinced of the T.U.L.I.P. doctrine. At the time it never bothered me too much - as I so appreciated the Godly teaching of these pastors and their stand against sin and worldliness. Much like this sermon by Pastor Tim - the Calvinist doctrine was not actually preached and the message often appeared more Arminian to me. If I ever did mention my views to a pastor the reply was often rather proud and condescending (I am a woman btw) and so I kept quiet. It is strange how pastors who are so Godly and kind normally, would change completely when the issue of Calvinism arose. This convinced me that they have been deceived - especially when I sensed the way they seem to struggle themselves over this issue.
This, I might add was after years of thinking that I must be the one in error and pleading with the Lord to show me how Calvinism could be biblical - as I only wanted to please Him and follow the correct doctrine - whatever it was. When you are relaxed and have an open mind the Lord is able to show you truth and error.
I wrote out my own notes - trying to clarify the issue in my mind. Then recently, I started to listen to Mike Winger - who is so sensible and balanced on all doctrinal issues - and actually admits when he is still working out doctrines and is ready to change his viewpoint on tricky issues. He was like a breath of fresh air to me - and led me to Leighton Flowers and other teachers - who have helped to clarify the whole issue.
I look forward to your comments - when you have some spare time. BTW I am in the UK - so there will be a time lag anyway. The Lord bless you. Sue.

The Joy of the Regenerate soul is found in Christ, not necessarily on our faces before the lives of sinners that are perishing. The term Calvinism is found nowhere in scripture, God has a Will for his Elect and that is to ABIDE IN THE WORDS OF CHRIST. Jesus says if you love me you will obey my commands. Is your life hidden with Chrsit in God ? I assume not because of your man made theological constructs . My message to you Sir is to repent of your sins and throw your self on Christ, pleading for his Mercy and you will be able to see Christ for who he is without all the man made doctrines . Blessings

@Ancient Paths: Thanks for watching. Please allow me to answer, being one of Tim's fellow pastors here at Grace Community Church. All of us - Tim included - are not interested in fitting into niches and categories made by men for this or that doctrinal system. If many of our beliefs line up with what is broadly known as Calvinism, then so be it. But if they don't, then they don't. Our concern is not systems, but Scripture. We just want to proclaim what Scripture says regardless of what men's systems say. Given James 3:1, we're not held accountable to man-made systems - we're accountable to the living God. Thanks.

    Problem with churches today.
    1 Corinthians 14:26-33 ESV
[26] What then, brothers? When you come together, each one has a hymn, a lesson, a revelation, a tongue, or an interpretation. Let all things be done for building up. [27] If any speak in a tongue, let there be only two or at most three, and each in turn, and let someone interpret. [28] But if there is no one to interpret, let each of them keep silent in church and speak to himself and to God. [29] Let two or three prophets speak, and let the others weigh what is said. [30] If a revelation is made to another sitting there, let the first be silent. [31] For you can all prophesy one by one, so that all may learn and all be encouraged, [32] and the spirits of prophets are subject to prophets. [33] For God is not a God of confusion but of peace. As in all the churches of the saints,
Churches do not allow the body to operate as God intends it to. Usually a band and a one man show.
    1 Corinthians 12:14-20 KJVS
[14] For the body is not one member, but many. [15] If the foot shall say, Because I am not the hand, I am not of the body; is it therefore not of the body? [16] And if the ear shall say, Because I am not the eye, I am not of the body; is it therefore not of the body? [17] If the whole body were an eye, where were the hearing? If the whole were hearing, where were the smelling? [18] But now hath God set the members every one of them in the body, as it hath pleased him. [19] And if they were all one member, where were the body? [20] But now are they many members, yet but one body.

This sermon made me very uncomfortable. Not because it is not the truth but because of how it was presented. Paulin teachings and Christ's teachings are one in the same. Romans 12:14). Paulin doctrine is not anyone's doctrine. It is the LORD’s doctrine. We are save by grace and we do works, because we are save for good works.
I got tired of hearing, "don't take YOUR PAULIN teachings" and gave up on listen to him. All Scripture is breathed out by God!!

I find it humorous how mush preachers like Tim and Paul Washer love to use this passage and others like it. Seems like nearly every sermon I hear from them contains something like this. It is sad that many people miss the true meaning of the Sermon on the Mount. Jesus was talking specifically to the Jews with the intent to set up the Kingdom of Heaven right then and there. The Jews however, rejected that kingdom. Jesus during this sermon was laying down the law for that kingdom. There was no Gospel in this message at all. Certain pastors love to try to apply it to us and make salvation sound hard and almost as if it is works that saves us. Take this passage and compare it to John 3:16 and you end up with some major contradictions.. Which do you think applies to believers?

    • @stevehernandez790
      @stevehernandez790 2 роки тому +4

I agree with you in a sense..but salvation is described in the scriptures in difficult terms..that's because it involves death to self..a living sacrifice, which is harder than physically dying..the book of Acts mentions that through much tribulation we must enter the Kingdom of Heaven..the Christians in other parts of the world know this all too well, it's just us here in America that can't relate...YET.. but should the LORD tarry, l believe it won't be long before we will experience the same sufferings of our persecuted brethren.

    • @mattb8206
      @mattb8206 2 роки тому +2

@@stevehernandez790 Many preachers fail to realize that the kingdom of heaven and kingdom of God are two very different things. The kingdom of God is what applies to us today. When you take kingdom of heaven scriptures and try to intertwine them with believers you get some mixed doctrines. A very good book on this subject “eight kingdoms” by Micheal Pearl. Helped me understand the Bible better then ever. Most preachers don’t even know this fact and think both kingdoms are the same. It may also help you with the concept of “dying to self” many preachers get that wrong as well.
As for the coming persecution. I have no doubt that’ll it’ll come. It’s only a matter of time. We are spoiled here in America compared to the rest of the world. When it does come I’ll be ready. I have the spirit of God in me and he will see me through to the end. As Paul says, the sufferings in this present time are nothing compared to what’s in store for us in heaven (I’m paraphrasing of course)

BUT EACH ONE WILL BE REPAID WITH FIRE AND BRIMSTONE AND DEATH; WHOEVER DOES NOT HEED THE WORDS OF GRACE AND REPENTS FROM THEIR EVIL WAYS.
ONLY ONE PLACE HAS THE VOICE OF CHRIST AND IT IS RECORDED IN SCRIPTURE.
A VOICE THAT TELLS WARS TO CEASE AND A VOICE THAT EVEN COMMANDS THE DEAD.
YOU WILL EITHER HEAR THE VOICE OF CHRIST AND THE FATHER OR THE VOICE OF WRATH AND THE EXPECTATION OF JUDGEMENT.
OH I AM WEAK AND BATTERED AND SICK OF THIS PLACE AND THE WORLD AND THE WICKED IN IT.
    YOU DO NOT STOP!!!
    YOUR THROATS HAVE NO END.
YOUR TONGUES ARE TO HARD TO MANAGE.
    AND YOU SHACKLE THE NEIGHBOR.
MAY FIRE AND DEATH CONSUME ALL WHO HAVE PLACED BURDEN ON NEIGHBOR.
IM SICK OF THE MASKS, SICK OF THE VACCINES, SICK OF THE LACK OF MONEY, SICK OF CONSTANTLY BEING PUT TO MAKE BRICKS WITHOUT HAY.
WELL GUESS WHAT, PHAROAH AND THOSE WHO FOLLOWED HIM DIED AND WERE LOST. AND IT IS NOT THAT THEY WERE GONE FOREVER FOR THEY WILL ALSO BE RESURRECTED INTO DIVINE TORTURE FOR AGES.

To me calling Jesus Lord Lord and don’t do what Christ says is like a diabetic calling your doctor and calling the doctor your doctor claiming you believe your doctor and not doing nothing the doctor says . And aspect your health to get better just like the lost calling Jesus. Lord Lord and not wanting to live for Jesus and aspecting still go to heaven.
