Maestro Sokolov lets us enjoy every detail.
+FirstGentleman1 By playing the music about half as fast as Beethoven suggested!
Glenn Gould played it even slower. But yes, it should be played faster. It is interpretation!
In the end though, who really cares what Beethoven thinks? It's our music now.
Ahh, I am not SOO sure. But maybe you just kidding here.
@@MrKlemps Perhaps, but there are plenty of interpretations that offer the desired velocity. This one allows me to savour it.
Incredible.
great
Beethoven became deaf but was not goof. A second of 60 Mälzel per crotchet was the same during his lifetime like today. The clock mechanism worked well. Czerny controlled the speed of Beethoven. Like Norrington Gardiner and HJ Lim together say:" Not the metronome but the interpreters
were wrong who slowed down the speed and adapted it to their lower craftsmanship.
Please listen HJ Lim, Kim Kyung, the Artur Schnabel pupil Beveridge Webster or Stephan Beus to get the real Beethoven experience by real pianists and forget Sokolov. He is nothing but a charlatan with awkward movements who cheats people with his lack of technic by selling it as super interpretation!
It's possible that- Beethoven's metronome was broken, people. Artists connect with the music, like GS does.
What people fail to realize is that the metronome marks represent the way Beethoven heard the music in his head, not the way literally he thought they could or should be performed. As such they are should be understood as "suggestive". For example, 138 for the first movement of Op. 106 tells us that 100-110 is a distortion of the composer's intention. I think Schiff, C. Frank, U. Oppens perform it between 125 and 130. The overall spirit seems correct. "Ponderous" is not what Beethoven intended.
what kind of venue is that
Answer, please!
Berlin Recital... i was one of those lucky people!!
After the concert and all the encores people kept applauding for minutes...and he was kind enough to come out again for a very personal encore with all the music lovers on stage next to him...
