A football career is too short to spend it under pressure worried and anxious. Sure he could have been more prolific but at least he had an epic time living it up while it lasted.

As a Romanian, its good to see his story featured here. I can still remember watching his penalty miss in Euro 2008 vs Italiy :( we almost beat the world champs at the time! On Romanian podcasts he's been very open and apologetic about his past and he's really turned over a new leaf with his management career. The major problem for Romanian talents is they let the media influence their hype and it can cause alot of downfall for these young players. Hopefully his experiences can bring better guidance for the youth in the future because his talent was unquestionable.
As a former scout specialized on the eastern-central Europe in the 90’s. Mutu was something special at Arges and Dinamo. His problems could have been resolved with harder discipline back in those days, however coaches just let him do whatever he wanted because he was good, and the personal problems came as a consequence. I am saying this as somebody that had the luck to talk with him when he was 17 and 19, nice guy, but not a serious dedicated one
@@CristianDudut the Becali brothers, cousins to the owner of the biggest club in Romania. I had to deal with the whole family due to Rădoi and ogararu’s transfers in the early 2000’s. Not so funny, but is better than dealing with any Bulgarian club

The thing with Mutu is he was from a good family and most of the kids you’re gonna be in contact with growing up in the youth teams in Romania are kids from broken homes with all sorts of bad situations and drunk coaches who won’t believe in you unless football is all you have to get out of poverty, so he always wanted to fit in and experience ‘the underworld’, and that governed most of his decisions from an early age. He always carried himself as some sort of gangster, playboy, millionaire, etc. All he had to do was be a football player and act like one, but that was only the case for a very short period of time after the Chelsea incident. That only lasted for 2-3 years, unfortunately.
Adrian Mutu's career certainly has some highs and lows, moments of brilliance and moments of madness, but there is one thing that Mutu’s life that it hasn’t been so far - that is, boring.
Really enjoying the humanist turn you’ve made with this channel. These player-focused videos do such a good job of humanizing these famous players, as well as the status of being a footballer. I’ve always thought that the excuse that ludicrous amounts in wages (they do receive too much) so they should wipe their tears with their cash is unfair. You’re doing good work, man.
Hey adrian, i know it isn’t the holiday season anymore but it would be interesting to see a video on the real betis tradition of throwing stuffed animals onto the pitch!
Sadly, this is a classic tale of the Romanian footballer. Many players come from poor, uneducated backgrounds and once they sign to big clubs and get money and fame they start getting tattoos, smoking, drinking and whatnot, this is a tale as old as time here. Me and Mutu are from the same city and I know people that grew up with him, his old teammates and people that knew him back in the day and it's very sad to hear them talk about him. I'm glad he started coaching, maybe he will learn from the mistakes of the past and that his story will be an example to young players.
Mutu at his peak could've played for any club in the world, and I'm not even sure if he reached his true peak. Good on the ball, decent passer, free kicks, long shots he had it all.
As soon as he stopped being a victim and took responsibility things started to get better for him. I respect a man that knows and admits he’s the culprit and then he gets to do what is right. Much respect and so happy to hear that he’s a disciplinarian as a manager.
He said once on a interview in Romania, last year or 2 years ago , "i was young,i had 4 millions euro salary(in 2004) ,apartment in Central London, nice cars,i was regarded as a star,Abramovic son loved me,so yeah..i made mistakes,i wanted to try this and that..."
Indeed there is a light at the end of the tunel, he's a completely changed man today and actively talks about his mistakes so that other young players don't repeat them, he's quite an inspiration today
Haha, been watching your channel for a couple of years now but didn't ever expected a video about my home country beckham 😅 Indeed he was seen as our own beckham, being always in the papers, it was a shame since he was a real talent. His agents, the "Becali" brothers are pretty well connected with Bucharest mafia and are notorious in our country, with several rumors regarding the provenance of Mutu's nose candy 😅
So sad. People forget how young he was. I blame evil greedy influences around him for misleading him. Young players with money and lifestyle they have never had is a recipe for disaster. Without the right guidance.
Chelsea was the wrong move for him and like many Ranieri signings he wasn't wanted by Mourinho. I liked having him at Juventus but then cringed at the sigh of Capello using Mutu as... left winger. Atrocious. However his career recovered well at Fiorentina, something which is not talked about much in England.
I agree with you yes we the supports of the beautiful game has been robbed of Mutu talent. Now it's the what ifs abt his likely never fulfilled contribution. A true talent
To say that he destroyed his career after he was back playing for Juve less than a year later, and then went on to become a Fiorentina legend is far from calling it a "Downfall", especially since he took Romania to Euro 2008 top of the group over the Netherlands.
Just something wild to add about his story, Adrian Mutu's last managerial job was at Neftçi Baku in Azerbaijan, but they sacked him the day of his mothers funeral, and it was also Christmas Eve. Absolutely awful timing.
I would not say distroyed...he reached a peak at Chelsea and finished as a very good player for Fiorentina so yeahh he could have been more but ended well after all :)
Ah Adrien Mutu. The next crown jewel of Romania and making his name in Italy and Chelsea only to fall to obscurity the moment he took sugar. Mutu had a crazy career alright.

Damn what a talent he was, but i guess talent is not enough when you don't have dicipline - well except whe you're Romario or Maradona About Mutu as a coach: Nah he isn't that impressive, he almost got Voluntati relegated in his first term, then had a great time with the Romanian U21, a decent perfomance at Rapid and got saked in Azerbajan after he left Romania for the money. Now let's see what he'll do at CFR Cluj... But yeah, what a player he was, sadly almost every Romanian struggles to get into a stron European team because of the lack of dicipline, profesionalism and self-responsibility they're getting taught in the academy - back home, you get treated like a demigod, but once you're in Europe you're realise that you need to fight and give 100% - hopefully things will change, but looking at Romanias governing body in football, it doesn't seem like it. The only hope are Romanians who transfer from a young age to west like Dragusin
Romario was a weird kind of undisciplined though; sure he partied till the very end…. But in general he did show up and perform… and more importantly his drug of choice was sex and partying; not alcohol or drugs . So in a weird sense he was actually a disciplined professional.
