Great styx Rick. Really informative video. I always thought that sympathetic buzz was a reflection of poor quality tom mounts. Guess I was wrong. That Slingerland sounded nice. I never really listened to a 12" before. Do you think if you used an Evans Genera Dry to try to tone down the ring, that it would also take the drum's personality away like the leather? Thanks for the video.
Hello from Greece! I've watched many of your videos, I believe your drumming is amazing sir. I think I own the same Slingerland 12' snare drum, I think though that it's a 12x8 and I bought it as a copper shell snare drum. Maybe I'm wrong. It is really heavy though.
I think they sound very unique. I am not crazy about the rusted metal look but the sound is very different than what I normally use. I have a few of their drums and I will do a video with them in the future.
The difference is mainly in volume. The thick heavy bell bronze snares are much louder than the thin ones with more body to the tone. They both are very sensitive with thinner heads.
Hi I rarely tighten the cradle all the way except when I am playing on an orchestra drum. I don't feel like it affects the sound too much either way but I did try the Tama floating stand and that definately let the drum ring longer. It's only attached at one point similar to a floating tom mount like the Yamaha YESS system.
Hi Pierre It depends on the thickness of the shell. Most all cast bronze shells like the Sonors are thick and very heavy. This gives them a dryer sound. They can be pretty loud like bell brass drums. Thinner brass shells like the Ludwigs are darker and will ring a bit more. They are also much lighter. Copper is between those 2 metals and in my opinion is a great metal for snare drums.
The Marvin Smitty Smith Drum looks and sounds Amazing.
I have one. It sounds as amazing as it looks. Tune it high and it has a crack that you can’t get from any other snare
Damn his drumming is so smooth and clean. I'm not bitter.
Wow Mr Dior, I am really blowing away by your technik and versitality 👍🏼. Such a fundamental education in every kind of music. Great 🤗👍🏼
Such a great snare showcase, really love your videos, gear videos especially!
This is fantastic. I could watch your latin and jazz stylings for HOURS. So satisfying.
I fell in love with the deGrasso snare drum and was lucky enough to find it on ebay. It‘s really an awesome brass snare.
Great rudiments, brother,my favorite was that Slingerland bress, and and the Sonor
Yet another Great video from a passionate craftsman! You bring a lot to the Tube, Rick!
Thanks Raymond
I really appreciate that.
Thanks for the video Rick. It’s really fun to listen to you talk about your snare drums and your demonstration is great as well!

Yep, sounds fantastic in the vid. 2 hours ago I bought one (pretty good condition) on eBay Germany for € 400. Can't wait for it to arrive ...

Hi Rick, great video!
I wanted you detailed opinions on Sonor D420 Piccolo 14X4 and Signature Designer Brass 14X4, what is your experience vs 593?

Hi
You could be right.
My measurements have been off lately. What's an inch between friends.
I measured it. It's a 12×7.
great video as usual ) what do you think about A&F ?
I think they sound very unique.
I am not crazy about the rusted metal look but the sound is very different than what I normally use.

@@rickdior thank you)) can t wait
Me too
Do you find any difference in sensitivity between thicker shelled metal snares and thinner ones? Cheers

Thank you@@rickdior
PS. How firmly do you recommend securing a snare in the cradle of the stand? Put another way does it affect the sound at all?

You are an absolutely superb drummer Rick. 🎉
Those hihats are delicious

Even in the 90s, it's hard to believe that the Smitty Smith snare cost only 200$.
Yes, I have 3 of them with different head setups. The most underrated snare ever.
the best snare is the first, 50$
Ugh... So many ads.
Hi Chris
I will see what I can do. They seem to be getting worse.
@@rickdior Thank you.
