  • We were at the luxurious Galgorm Manor Resort Hotel on Wednesday, for our son Ben and his new wife Rebecca's, wedding reception. It was fabulous.
We stayed over until Thursday morning to try and recharge our batteries after the full activities of the wedding day.
Looking out of our bedroom window on Thursday morning we saw the scenic rapids of the river Maine and there was Harry the Heron standing in the middle of the water. Fish were obviously on his/her mind. We also noticed a large heron sculpture further along on the bank. Harry had been immortalized!
The Galgorm Manor Resort is a luxury spa hotel, found just 30 miles outside of Belfast and 6 miles outside Ballymena in Co Antrim. It’s made up of 163 acres of parkland, Irish woodlands and rolling hills that surround the spa. It has become a very popular wedding venue.
Back in 1857, Galgorm Resort was actually a working mill, owned by the Young family. The current resort has sprung up around the original building. This has been expanded with £11m worth of spa facilities and a variety of chic accommodation. You can still spot the heritage in the main building, which houses the reception area and most of the bars and restaurants. Grand period fireplaces, floor-to-ceiling sash windows and ornate plasterwork reveal the clues of its past.

Yes Chris an amazing setting. You are correct about that patient heron. the local fishermen aren't so keen on him/her though!!!!!

That was a great view of the river from your room Tom. I’ve only ever seen it from ground level. It’s a lovely place for a wedding reception. I’m glad you got such lovely weather for Ben and Rebecca’s wedding, and not the weather on the day of filming. Congratulations to them both. 😊

Oh Shaun. We were so glad we stayed that night. We were too shattered to drive home. it was super to use the heated outdoor pools that morning, breakfast and then home.

Hi Paul. We all had a brilliant day. The sun even turned up! We were so grateful. That wily old heron wasn't bothered by people near by!!!
