@@SortedFood The world is full of suffering - but you can only truly enjoy it when inflicted upon a friend. Then exponentially pays back, when you can turn it back like this.
Oh brilliant dishes….I thought I was a reasonable cook (I’m 68) but I have learned so much from all of the team over the last year since I’ve had the Sorted app. My son came to live back home for a while last year after my husband very sadly died suddenly, and as Daniel enjoys veggie food midweek I needed new ideas and have never looked back. My cooking technique has improved and the simple things like grating garlic and ginger have meant my cooking tastes better and takes less time, plus I don’t have a kitchen full of pots before I eat …well, not always! A big thank you, Sorted.
Kudos. No matter how well you can cook, you should be open to learning new cooking techniques and ingredients. The biggest thing is to get to a point where you have a bunch of very versatile "back pocket" dishes that you can throw together with minimal fuss. You get to the point where you are no longer "cooking to the recipe". It's kinda like knowing how to "season to taste" instead of relying on measured amounts of salt, pepper, etc. And the best thing is that grocery shopping can inspire you rather than having a set list of potentially expensive ingredients that might be out of season. The best thing is knowing how to use stuff you have on hand. You don't have to buy "chili seasoning" if you have cumin, cayenne, paprika, and oregano in the spicerack. Good luck on your cooking journey!!!
This is actually a massively appreciated format. I do enjoy the other cooking excursions, with some creativity and a goal set in mind before it comes to the actual cooking, but it always lacks a bit of reality. You don't sit down with a team of chefs to discuss your next experimental dish, if you're a normal person. You just bring together influences and ideas and try to tie them up into an interesting and most of all tasty dish. That influence and the ingenuity required to pull it off get completely lost, when you make a recipe beforehand, try it out and then just cook it on-air without professional help. I do get that it's essentially required, so the show can actually present a dish, rather than just a jumble of ideas, which would require 5,6 or 7 revisions to really nail down a final product, but it's nice to see some actual creativity every once in a while.
Yes, this was a very helpful format for the person at home to see how they can put together the different techniques and ideas they learned while watching this show. Both of the boys absolutely deserved the badge, Barry for showing how you only need a few ingredients to make something good and Mike for showing just how much you can do in 15 minutes with some hacks

Nice to see frienly competition between Barry an Mike. Both with good criticism for the other dish. More of this unplanned format please! Quite a refreshing video. Oh and Ben Cucumbering was quite a laugh! Well done gents
Mike absolutely proved that he can do amazing things when he puts his mind to it! honestly, I would have given him the badge but not Barry. Nothing he did really stood out to me as faster than usual
Agreed. While it looked good, Barry just slapped a steak on a salad while Mike made a whole-ass CURRY in 15 minutes, that alone should get him the speedy badge.
Definitely wouldn’t have given Barry the badge. If the gold is speedy cooking, you still need to actually cook the food well. Steak was under Dunn for what he was aiming for, and he didn’t actually do anything with the cucumber he just chopped it up and cucumbered it all over the dish.
This was excellent to watch. As so many others have said, I enjoy the battles where they work with the food team, but this was way more entertaining, almost the chaos of Pass It On but relying only on yourself. Barry was truly sabotaging Mike all the way through the selection, especially with the rhubarb, even though rhubarb cooked down with other aromatic flavors--particularly onion--makes an incredible sauce for red meat. I now want to try making a vegetarian version of Mike's dish.
You both deserve the badge but I am especially pleased with how the _rubharb_ was used as a _savory_ element instead of the usual desert. (Gave me pause for thought and opened up a lot of ideas.)
Mike absolutely won this. Barry just cooked a steak...kinda... And then put it on top of an improvised salad. Time limit taken into account, that's fair; and it worked...but it's really nothing impressive. Mike actually brought a full dish together that utilized the strengths of all the ingredients. Barry played it safe and came up with a safe dish that he knew he could pull off. Mike still worked within his wheelhouse; but also took risks for a better dish.
@@SortedFood you didn’t know? He went to the Italian cafe for a full English breakfast. Can’t remember the name, but it’s 100% been in one of your videos before!
The ultimate swap the ingredients battle, normals are given the same budget and they buy the ingredients and then they explain the dish they are making and then the ingredients get swapped randomly and then they had to make the dish which the other normal just explained
Barry: “woo hoo!” Ben: I like the confidence, that’s what we need. Mike: I will season this, water it down, and blend this despite your dirty cheffy looks!
i love this unplanned concept! my whole life i’ve never really liked following recipes and this is a chance for the normals to not rely so much on help from the food team!
I love the camaraderie that was in full force at the end of Mike’s time 🥰🥰🥰 Bravo to the lot of you!! These looked definitely edible - and dare I say, delish!
Pretty easy for a 15-20 minute meal. Rice, chicken and various veg that you have. Soy sauce, garlic, ginger, ketchup, and tamari splashed into a pan and heated through with some cornstarch, toss the chicken or just pour it over the food then cut a couple fingers of green onion. Delicious and easy
The blooper was really sweet. Mike did a hell of a job in 15min. I wasn’t sure if he’d be able to finish. Glad he found the immersion blender instead of transferring to a blender.
Great choice of format and really great job, guys! It was interesting to watch how wild (lets forget the recipe) boy played quite safe and Mike was the one, who went bold. And it was definitely worth it. Both dishes look awesome, but it's Mike's dish which makes me salivate. I'm gonna definitely try it on my own.

To be fair, Barry did speed up his dish by selecting easy to work with ingredients.
Loved the energy in this one. You guys nailed it.
Mike's one look so mouthwatering! He has done an amazing job 👏👏
I know Barry’s math is bad, but man… “4” bunts 😅😅😅
13:24, Barry's face says it all, "how the bloody hell have you done this" 😄
Starting off with Barry not even being able to count correctly, I’m sure this will go swimming
You both deserve the badge but I am especially pleased with how the _rubharb_ was used as a _savory_ element instead of the usual desert. (Gave me pause for thought and opened up a lot of ideas.)
This is going to be Insane and I'm here for it!
Let’s go!
I still feel they should have actual badges on their aprons.
Mike's chaotic energy is just what I needed this morning. Success comes in many shapes and forms.
Happy Sunday to SortedFood HQ and the Community! Mike’s face in the beautifully crafted thumbnail says it all lmao
Loved and appreciated the format of todays episode, super relatable
No Jamie? Too busy moonlighting on a Jolly video the other day! 😂
Is he cheating on us?! How dare he!!
That was a fantastic episode though!
@@SortedFood you didn’t know? He went to the Italian cafe for a full English breakfast. Can’t remember the name, but it’s 100% been in one of your videos before!
@@jessiep2471 all the food looked amazing tbf…and I do like a Jolly/Sorted crossover
Rhubarb is a great addition to Indian food. I have created a hot rhubarb pickle to accompany curries. (I can't grow limes in my garden.)
The ultimate swap the ingredients battle, normals are given the same budget and they buy the ingredients and then they explain the dish they are making and then the ingredients get swapped randomly and then they had to make the dish which the other normal just explained
Oh brilliant! We need to make this happen. 🙌
That will cause meltdowns and chaos. Yes please.
Yay! Well done. Agree with everything Ben said. Congrats to the winner.
Barry: “woo hoo!” Ben: I like the confidence, that’s what we need. Mike: I will season this, water it down, and blend this despite your dirty cheffy looks!
i love this unplanned concept! my whole life i’ve never really liked following recipes and this is a chance for the normals to not rely so much on help from the food team!
o dear o dear!
Haha it's your first time playing spin the bottle isn't it. .. way to tease him about growing up a nerd 🤣🤣 hilarious . You guys honestly did so well !
Ben and Barry's simultaneous head turn was classic.
I love the camaraderie that was in full force at the end of Mike’s time 🥰🥰🥰 Bravo to the lot of you!! These looked definitely edible - and dare I say, delish!
I would love this as a format going forward! Short simple and it shows how far the bois have come
Wow. Go Mike! That was genius!
what a lovely new format! i think the combination of first chooses, second has time to think will be interesting to observe in the future!
Those closeups of Mike's dish had my mouth watering! Beautiful.
Always great to see Mike win something mate has a lot more going for him in the kitchen than he realises sometimes.
This was such a roller coaster to watch! Absolutely amazing!
It’s so much fun to see the boys come up with their own recipes without relying on the food team. I really enjoyed this.
This is a great format - love this. Please keep it!
This was a great episode. Loved the concept. In reality, this is what cooking on a fly looks like.
