I just ordered the new DW carbon fiber 5000 double pedal and hi-hat stands from you guys yesterday. I love all these DW kits. The DW Jazz snare, Birch/Mahogany kit, with a special nod to the PurpleCore kick drum were my favorites. I hope some day you demo their Cherry Jazz Series kits. One in big sizes and one in bop sizes. Or maybe the 3 different shell variations in the Jazz Series. The Cherry Jazz drums are, ironically, some of the best drums for rock I’ve ever played. There aren’t really any decent videos of those drums out there. The world needs to hear how great those drums are and nobody would record them better than DCP.
Absolutely!!! Finally a drummer who goes balls out the whole time, something these demos need more of! This guy is a fantastic drummer! We need to know his name!
Never been a fan of DW (maybe because of the round lugs?) but the kits all sounded great, and I especially liked them in the higher tuning range! In the head-to-head I favored the Birch/Mahogany and the Purpleheart snare. Another killer video guys! You make being a drummer a lot more fun.
Guys, I appreciate the amount of effort to put this together, so thanks, awesome job. Given that there are no changes to the signal chains or proximity of the mics, most of differences I heard were primarily in the pitch or note (not exactly matched kit to kit) Overall, I would go with the Purple Core blue drums and “low tuning” as it sounded more powerful.
Thank you guys for the Head to Head at the end. I love hearing more isolated hits, and even one shots back to back, or even just on kits/snares/cymbals etc on their own! Please keep including these whether in comparison videos or even if your just showing off 1 kit, snare, etc! It helps alot! Appreciate it!
Wow, massive sounds happening with those 18" floor toms! I loved them all, but probably partial to the maple purple core, if I had to pick one over the other. DW make great gear, but I'm not keen on the turret lugs on their drums, but that's just personal preference. Thanks guys, great video, and fantastic, solid playing!
DW floor toms are always impressive and as usual you guys did a fine job delivering a video that speaks quality drum sounds. That said for my style of playing which is rock power pop I'm not lying when I say the blue glass birch mahogany stole the show. Great shop excellent inventory
I agree man! The Birch/Mahogs sounded killer. They had great Attack/Projection, but had really nice lows/low end punch! This kit would kill in the Studio I bet.
3:58 this guy is so good. Love it when the drummers actually HIT the drums with a bit of rock n roll force! So many times it seems the drummers just tap the drums. The whole time I’m screaming “Hit them!!! Whack those drums!!!” This drummer I time stamped knows how to rock!!!!!
Did you use a plastic beater and no dampening in the bass drums? Sounds like like the attack is a flam. Great video. Love the drums and this channel is gold.
Maple purple core for me. I love this type of video. Set the phone down and just listen. Mic shootouts, head shoot outs, on and on it goes. It all matters in the hunt of gear you like to hear. DCP is the best at helping you get there. Now I believe it's time to melt some plastic!
My Hands Down Favorite are the Mahogany/Spruce in the Higher tuning range! Even though they are of a lower pitch they still have great articulation! The 14” Tom and 24x14 kick gives the closest Bonham Sound! Which I Love ! Only thing I would change is…. I would go with the Green Sparkle/Metallic Wrap. Great Job once again guys! Thanks! 🎶🥁
My first kit was a Slingerland with 24,13,14,16 18 configuration so I find it somewhat amusing to see these as being referred to as large or humongous 😁
Alright, this was a great test, DW drums are just the best! ;) Huge sound from all kits and some slow and fast playing, The bass sound or mic positions were a little off, it was `clunk´ rather than a ´boom´ sound! Otherwise great test all round, thank you ;)
Hard to hear a large difference the heads are so slappy. Beautiful though. Cant imagine the amout of time these vids take. Thanks for all your hard work sharing with the community.
The Maple/Purple toms would be my unequivocal choice. The other two sounded pretty similar, but the low end (make sure to listen over good speakers/ headphones) on the Maple kit is just awesome.
I always tip my hat to your videos fellas. Tony does a fantastic job tunning.,that being said, for some reason the bass drums sounded a little strange to me.ive always loved the sound of factory single ply heads on the kick with the dw pillow inside.Did these 3 kits have the 2ply head on the kick side???If so not a fan of that particular sound. Beautiful drums.!!!
I really like the 18" floor tom. massive sound. But this is the first time in any of your videos, that I really dislike the bassdrums. Something sounds kinda "flappy" like the head is too lose or the beater re-hitting the head multiple times. I can't figure out what exactly it is, but it drives me crazy :D
At the higher tuning, which would be closer to where id tune em, gimme the birch/mahogany toms, maple/purpleheart kick, and the purpleheart snare. Wished yall wouldve done a head to head at the lower tunings as well. I also know its so hard to keep from having a dribbly attack with those big kicks, especially if youre a player that buries the beater.
Great stuff as always. I would love to hear some of these bass drums tuned a little more open. Not bop "open", but a more Bonham sounding bass drum would give a little more room to hear the different qualities. I can definitely tell differences in the toms but the bass drums across all 3 kits sound nearly the same.
Over the last few years I have become more and more impressed with mahogany. I love both mahogany sets and I agree with one other comment about how awesome the mah/spruce bass sounded. The Pearl Session kits are mahogany/birch and that bass drum has a great crack/attack. It also has a 60 bearing edge which I like for attack. Rock kits with bass drums that have less than a 45 bearing edge just don't make it for me. Unfortunately the Pearl shells have vertical seams which don't appeal to me visually. Thanks for the comparison.
Ok, it's time guys, partner up with Toontrack and make a sample library out of the first sparkly kit. Or do it yourselves (because Toontrack won't follow your miking techniques, and right now it sounds LIKE A MONSTER, specially the low tuning). Just be sure to add lots of articulations and no robot effect. Specially on SNARE and TOMS, ty.
I hated ALL the kits at that very low tuning. However, once all the kits were tuned higher... very nice, except the Mahogany/Spruce kit, which just didn't do anything for me.
These drum companies are killing me with their flat bass drums. If I had to wait around at my age for the deep shell drums to come around again, and they will, I’d take up piano.
I gotta be honest. All of these kits look and sound great but I just don’t hear that unique sound that sets DW apart from the other drum companies. What I mean is that when I hear a Ludwig or Gretsch or Sonor or A&F….I can hear the distinctive sound of those companies. I don’t really hear that in DW. I’m not bashing DW at all because they make beautiful drums but I just don’t hear a DW sound. Am I the only one? Again, I’m not against DW at all. Just a thought. As far the kits, my favorite was the Birch/Mahogany. Beautiful looking kit.
I get it. I'm not impressed. They always sound dead to me. Their craftsmanship and build quality is amazing. I just prefer other companies. The newer Pearl Masters and Sonor are tied for the best sounding kits on planet Earth. Love my Gretsch drums though.
I LOVE larger sized drums....NOT a fan of the smaller diameter/shallower sizes that have been popular for quite a while now....I don't see the appeal in those AT ALL from a sound perspective....Just my opinion
Aaand that’s why I do not like DW drums. They are beautiful to look but ugh they just sound bad to me and they all sound the same or very very close. Put up the German made Sonor kits…
the birch/mahogany kit sounds unreal
Agreed 🥁👍
I agree. My jaw was on the floor. 😂
it sounds just like John Bonham!
no other channel does these comparison kind of vids like you guys. kudos!
Thank you Julian!!

That Teal Glass Birch / Mahogany.... WOWZERS!!! Love it!
Thats why birch Mahogany is my favorite combo, my god that sounds absolutely insane!!!
Homie who played the Maple PurpleCore at higher tuning KILLED IT!!! Replayed that part just to experience it again.
Thanks so much!
Absolutely!!! Finally a drummer who goes balls out the whole time, something these demos need more of! This guy is a fantastic drummer! We need to know his name!
Indeed, give THAT drummer some! His groove reminds me of the drumming on Eric Johnson's "Righteous." @@stevebond7387

I‘m always excited when you guys upload a video. Thank you for doing this!
Maple/purpleheart for the overall win! (Although the mahogany/spruce bass drum kicked all the others' asses.) Great video, guys.
I like equally mapple and spruce on this model. Mapple for versatility and spruce for hard rock is the way to fo for !
WOW! You guys make it difficult to choose a drum series. You make all the drum companies sound good! Hope to visit the shop soon.

Awesome video! You guys kill it! Thanks for your hard work on these. DW for the win.
OHHH YEAH!! Lets go!! DCP never EVER disappoints! Much respect!! 💯 🥁
Gotta say... I was blown away by how good the 18" floor toms sounded! WOW!
Great Sound, great drums❤
Mahogany Spruce might be my favorite (that finish is pretty easy on the eyes too) ❤
Far-out man! That stick drop moment by the curly hair dude was epic!!! And kit number one sounds amazing ❤
Did you use a plastic beater and no dampening in the bass drums? Sounds like like the attack is a flam.

Spruce Mahogany is unbelievable at both tunings. Along with the snare that matched that kit. The middle set was my least favorite. Great demo guys!!!
My Hands Down Favorite are the Mahogany/Spruce in the Higher tuning range!

The 14” Tom and 24x14 kick gives the closest Bonham Sound!

A lot of that is due to the heads that come on these bass drums. They have a very mid range forward attack sound.
They all sound great. Low tuning for the studio, high tuning for live.
I have no idea what spruce is supposed to sound like, but that kit with the mahogany had a really cool timpanic effect.
I believe the Stratavaerius violins were made of Spruce.
Maybe the drum producers seen something special in this wood.
My S-Classix is 24/13/16, Scandinavian birch. Hard to part with it. Big drums are dope.
How has a big name not scooped Barrett up? Absolutely insane playing. The drums are good too.

Something sounds kinda "flappy" like the head is too lose or the beater re-hitting the head multiple times. I can't figure out what exactly it is, but it drives me crazy :D
Glass glitters rule! 🥳 They catch the lights on stage better than anything else.
Birch/mahogany kit was the clear favorite for my tastes. I favored each drum against its counterparts and I even preferred the finish.
Big bass drums with small toms are my go to.
Imagine how Bonham would have responded to anyone of these kits! Each sounds absolutely incredible
They all sound good.

Birch Mahogany, sound and finish! Ich will
Freakin Barrett's on fire!
Maple/purple core for the win!!! Now, if I could choose which bank to rob to afford them, I'll be set.
Whoa! The spruce is loose! Man-ster sounding drums!
Great stuff as always. I would love to hear some of these bass drums tuned a little more open. Damn I wish I could mix up all the shells. Like bass drum that birch/mahogany, TomToms purple heart, and floor toms that spruce. 👌
first kit is phenomenal
The thump on that 18" mah/spr FT on the lower tuning is unbelievable. Combined with Purplecore kick, that would be it.
Could you guys do a video on a Mapex 24” bass drum kit please
The bass drum sound a bit odd. There's a weird distorted THUD sound. Is that the drum or the mic?
Over the last few years I have become more and more impressed with mahogany.
I love both mahogany sets and I agree with one other comment about how awesome the mah/spruce bass sounded.

The kick drum tuning was always too low, even on higher tunings. Great demo!
Purple core looks and sounds the best
I prefer the birch mahogany. Kickass !
Mahogany/Birch Toms. Maple Purple Core Kick and the Purple heart Snare.
Amazing sounding kits. Would you guys happen to have Tune Bot settings for how you tuned the birch/mahogany kit?
Maple sound 👍
Very very well done
Didn’t hear any difference, especially when a guitar etc added in
Leettts Gooooooo!!! DCP!!!!! I like Big Drums and I can not lie!
Now they just need to make an oak/mahogany to complete to the set 😊
Birch Mahogany isn't on the DW website. I'd never seen it before
Nice punchy drums.
I have a pdp 805 kit. 13x7 16x14 18x16 Toms 24”x17” kick. Problem is the powder coated hardware and rims chips off like crazy.
Excelente vídeo! Parabéns!
Thanks so much!

It's soo close between the Supraphonic and the Tama Black Brass. But in the end...the Ludwig takes it!
Sorry. The video switched before I hit send. This comment is for the snare drumble vid
that birch/mahogany all day
Maple Purple core for me.
maple purplecore steal the show IMO
There’s something funky happening with the bass drums. Mics out of phase maybe? Sound double clicky.
That’s beater dribble from an unported head
@@adamfrost3722 does that happen if you don’t muffle them? I’ve got an unported kick and haven’t had that problem but I’ve got a pillow in mine.
@@pfunnk14 yeah, these had the minimal Dw mufflers in there, but using a softer beater might have helped too.
I’d say the sonor sq2 sounded best. Followed by the sonor sq2 in second. Third would go to the sonor sq2.
🙏🏽🙏🏽🙏🏽🙏🏽🙏🏽🙏🏽🙏🏽🙏🏽 perfect word…. BOMBASTIC 😂
It was weird seeing Ray Charles playing that middle set.
Really love those big kicks!!
Spruce? Hmmmm 🤔... sounded good though
All DW drums sound great I just don't like their hardware.

1080p/HD video is decent but it’d look even better in 2160p/4K 🤔🤷♂️😎😉
2/3 of our cameras shoot in 4K. For now, it's better to transcode to the lowest common denominator.
Tune bot settings?
Blue looked the best but sounds dead. I’d take the first or third kit. They have that dw ring.
All great drum but I don’t hear a significant ant difference. Precise manufacturing is the most important factor to find sounding drums.
i got go low tuning birch and mahogany. has something special. almost too low. but, there is no such thing
You said the 3rd set had. 14” rack Tom (which it clearly was) but your text said 13”…Just saying…
That’s why pencils have erasers
🌹 ❤❤️🤘🤘🥁🥁🥁
How bout a recording without burying the beater. All I hear is clicking not a good strike so we can hear how the resonance of the heads and shell are.
The Mahogany Spruce for the win!
did hear the difference all drums sound better on full mics up
I hear a lot of bass drum beater flutter. Those tiny holes in the front heads on the bass drums don't allow enough air to escape.
Hmm…I don’t hear much difference. They all sound good
At these sizes it’s splitting hairs
I gotta be honest. All of these kits look and sound great but I just don’t hear that unique sound that sets DW apart from the other drum companies. They all sound the same, lol! Put the big button lugs to kill the shell tone on any wood influence, the DW formula
There is no better drum company than DW, and there is no better sound than DW
You put the wrong dimension, on screen, of the mounted tom on the last kit. D'ho! 😅
Doh, indeed.
I LOVE larger sized drums....NOT a fan of the smaller diameter/shallower sizes that have been popular for quite a while now....I don't see the appeal in those AT ALL from a sound perspective....Just my opinion
Not crazy about any of these.
why put that ugly wrap on those beautiful wood finishes? Hey look, my drum looks cool... on the INSIDE!
Not a fan of DW. They just sound boxy to me. There are far better brands that come under DW's price.
😂😂😂😂😂😂😂
Beater is bouncing agaist batterhead. Sorry guys. Don't like that 🤔
Birch/Mahogany gets my vote.
Solid choice Magan!
Aaand that’s why I do not like DW drums. They are beautiful to look but ugh they just sound bad to me and they all sound the same or very very close. Put up the German made Sonor kits…
