Lars can make a 100€ instrument sound like a million dollar one. Fantastic bassist!
i agree with you in general about Lars but in this case I found that the pickup sounds is terrible :-( It's so..."metallic"....
@@luigi.zanini He is using the bridge pick up! It sounds LIKE that!
@@DMSProduktions mmm...I would like to listening the same riff played with the other pickup...anyway a good product for its price...
@@luigi.zanini SO would I Lui!
Sounds like he goes to the neck pickup at 2:26 and it doesn't sound bad at all.
Holy smoke! That first picked line is SICK!!
Smash Ogre TOO sick!
What a bass line by Mr. Lars at 00:04!!
After some hesitation, I finally bought this article while watching this demo and i am pleased.
This is an awesome instrument.
Thanks Gregor and Lars, keep BassThe World!
Still like it? I play guitar but I want to get into bass, to record, have fun and get a better groove. Seems like a good deal and I don't have to decide between P or J bass, I still don't know what I really want.
Really is an amazing sound for such an affordable bass. Keep these 'budget' bass reviews coming!
The problem for me is never the quality of the bass, its the quality of the player between the chair and the bass.
... and for this episode of Lars eating "groove" for breakfast!!!!!!!!!! Thanks for posting and sharing with us!!!!
Thanks for your videos! I was thinking about getting back into bass playing (haven't touched an instrument in 25 years), with more or less no budget at all. In the end I ordered the PJ-4 HTR (using your affiliate link, of course). It arrived today and I'm more than happy with it. I think it'll serve me well, jamming at home just for myself. Have to go now, practice is calling...
Love it when the person playing the bass, CAN PLAY! GOOD DEMO!!
Excellent demo too
An awesome sounding bass and a great looking bass as well.
Really nice review.
I my self started with Harley Benton. Now I regret selling it....
My suggestion - include part with some overdrive/fuzz effect.
Great video! Thx! Don't you plan to do a short review of PJ-74?
@ :54 When you're working for Bass The World, but also do side work scoring 80s-themed video games.
Thank you for mentioning the rosecar tone, I'm a bit of a wood snob & that was a useful tidbit of info.
That Lars is unbelievable! Nice bass tho.😌
Different pickup configuration and type, but otherwise it looks a lot like the G&L Kiloton in Irish Ale color. Love the look.
I'm looking at these models. a long-time guitar player who wants to start learning bass for more knowledge/fun, maybe record some stuff to go with guitar ideas. The Harley Benton appeals to me for price, quality at price point and would make a good platform for mods/upgrades (which i cam do my self) Thanks for the good video, straight forward info and no BS!
I have a PJ-5 HTR (5 string version of this). It was cheap, and it shows in the details. Nothing major though, and for the money (same as the PJ-4 HTR) it's a good bass. My only problem with it was the pickguard. It's not that dark tortoiseshell color, like in this video, but a much lighter reddish swirly thing, and it looked disgusting. It took about 10 minutes to put some satin black vinyl on it, and now it looks great.
That first bass lick was mean brotha
Love your reviews of affordable basses! I wonder however how the output is? I found that many cheaper basses have really low output which makes it nessecary to switch out the pickups. Is the same true for this bass?
this one has a normal output, as you'd expect it
@@basstheworldofficial Thank you!
With the money you save with this bass you can buy a damn good amp/speakers and lessons and that will really make a difference in your sound.
Question about this bass. I've been playing bass for almost 15 years. The whole time, I had a cheap Dean bass and I played so many gigs with it. Would you gig with this bass? I am think of buying one for recording, and if Covid goes away, I will play gigs with it. I like the price and possibility of upgrading the parts.. so would you gig with this if you were a semi-professional player? I've never played an expensive bass, so I won't compare it to those.
Yes
Tell me all about the Dean guitar, saw one for sale locally, but don't know anything about it, must research, what model did u have
I'm very stuck on getting the PJ-4 or MB-4! I'm a beginner looking to buy my first bass, I want to play primarily metal (80s-00s) and rock.
Lars Lehmann is a fucking machine.
Nice review
Should i buy the Harley Benton PJ-4 HTR Deluxe Series, or the Harley Benton PB-50 SB Vintage Series as a beginner?
I’d go with the PJ in that case. The PB has a massive neck, the PJ is definitely more comfortable to play
The PB-50 is pretty easy to play fingerstyle and slap too.
so if I want a more motown warm tone in this price range, what bass do I need to look for? The PJ combination is very interesting to me. I don't want to be a full time bass player but I want to record basslines on my soul and funk songs. I don't want to spend too much money on a bass as I already go overboard with pedals and amps for my guitars ^_^
Any P or PJ bass will do
I missed the tone fret wood comment on first viewing 😂
So the Harley Benton vintage basses have a more true bass sound?
Don't know if someone can answer me this question, but what's the difference between this PJ-4 and the PJ-74 except of the look?
The 60€ price difference must be felt somewhere, I guess.
As far as I can tell, the only differences are the PJ-74 has Roswell pickups, a brass saddle bridge, and a painted headstock. Other than that, the specs seem about the same. I'd go with the PJ-74, myself. Roswell pickups sound great, so that will save me the time and expense of swapping out the stock pickups on the JP-4. And I don't care for the color, or the pickguard on the PJ-4. Not that the vintage white of the PJ-74 is terribly exciting, but it's better than that brownish red with a pepperoni tort guard.
What about the weight?
PJ-4 vs PB-50 vs PB-20 ??? I am a guitarrist who wants to have a bass to play some things.
same question!
Jb20...thinner neck👍
Shame it doesn't follow usual PJ format..... P body with J neck😞
My church bought one of these and I noticed the pickups are much quieter than the other basses I own. Has anyone had a similar experience with these?
Du you know if the quality imprived over det years? I bought one of these back in 2013 with 5 strings, and it was quite terrible. Badly intonated when I got it, felt like plastic, didn't sound that good and I could swear a full grown hippos weight would be comparable to the body og that bass.
Harley Benton have generally improved over the years. The early years were not the best… let’s put it like this. Today it’s a whole different game. Value for the money is excellent throughout the entire brand
I'm looking for a PJ but with a Neck Like Jazz Bass, 38mm at the nut, I try to look at the features on the website
Sire P7 has a Jazz neck
@@fysy9989 Really? I thought he had the Neck of Precision..42mm, Thanks 👍🏼
My Squire PJ has a jazz neck. I bought it only two years ago, so check Squire's current catalogue on the Fender website.
@@MrWhitey222 Unfortunately all the Squier Pj are 41.3mm at the nut, then Precision's neck, maybe some new model came out..I try to check 👍🏻 (Sorry For my English..i'm studying It 🤷🏽♂️)
I mean you could buy a separate J neck and swap them out. Or you could check out Hammersmith, a small but pretty affordable custom shop from Canada.
International shipping?
I believe they ship worldwide, but better check this with Thomann
Yes
Looks good to me...
Should i get this bass or an Ibanez Talman tmb 100?
I haven't tried the talman, but if I were you I'd get this one. You'd have some money left over to buy a nice effects pedal or an amp.
this orthe jb 75mn>
????
Is it top heavy? Because i want to know if the headstock keeps diving when i use it with a strap
Is this a shortscale? hard to see
Nope
@@basstheworldofficial ok ty for answer mate
Maschine 🔥🥰
Is this bass short scale or regular
Regular
All I gotta say is 😱😱😱
I think the channel was taken over by an impostor: He didn't say his signature "hi" at the beginning
Hi! Disklefruh Bassdivvledakom.
yeah, I'm trying new things out. Yesterday I shot a video where I didn't even say good bye!
@@basstheworldofficial that's crazy! So we need to expect the unexpected
"Wintage"
If you're not Austrian I'll be shocked lol
I‘m not
The meaning of fretboard material to sound is really zero. Maybe some goldear w..kers can really heard the difference, but if somebody can tell blindfolded what that material is then she or he is miracle. And that is useless information to me. Good bass sound is good, whatever wood you have in your bass. Neck, body or fretboard.
Fretboard material has a huge influence on the sound.
@@basstheworldofficial Ok! That's your opinion. I say that's bullshit. Religion kind thing?
No, you can easily educate yourself by trying similar basses with different fingerboards. Every decent shop has at least a Jazz Bass from the same series with a maple and a rosewood fretboard. I recommend to start there
@@basstheworldofficial And you can probably hear what color is volume and tone knobs when you play. I can believe that when played acoustic you can hear some difference between different fingerboard materials, but trough pick ups and amp, no way. But anyway I like your videos.
Spot on....as with tone wood BS too😊
Crap sound!
