George building collapse update: At least six confirmed dead

- Following the collapse of the building that was being constructed in George, various emergency services have been called on scene. Six people have been confirmed dead, along with 28 retrievals.

We must investigate if the employees are not illegal immigrant . If they are because the lady here she is not South African. The owner must be arrested for using illegal immigrants

seems like concrete strength to weak judging to the way it broke up in small blocks. or props been removed before 21 day minimum curing time required
Structural engineer made mistakes by cutting measures on all load bearing sections of the building and furthermore the Developer hired cheap construction workers who lack experience
This happens ALOT. I'm in the architectural industry. If you don't cut corners, you don't survive. It's shocking to say the least
@@mv4770 Really!? I'm just starting on in the architectural industry and I've heard of architects reducing their fees but this is the first I've heard of structural engineers cutting corners😮
Please tell us the Architect firm was, and the construction company....
1. Have you got these claims on paper from the investigators of this case? 2. If not, you are speculating = that is misinformation and those involved can take legal steps against you.

I'm 37 Years old , been doing this nearly all my life and I've learned to walk away if I suspect the contractor wants to cut corners , because all of the soft plaster , the cheap ceiling boards , the un-even walls will badly reflect on my work and then I have to deal with the Kuk !
Just the other day my guy "Broke the PVC ceiling" because there was NO CEILING BOARD 🙄
If you are a DESPERATE contractor then you are in the wrong industry.
You will lose all of your good Sub contractors and eventually lose all your customers... In this case : People lose their life.

No , you cannot go there and help with your brains closed, you have to follow instructions. You put weight on places where people are still alive you can cause more collapse. Rescuing in situations like this are not thumb suck. You have to be careful here.

There better be a thorough investigation of building standards in this accident. This has to be one of the worst incidents in this country.
Investigate who and why. One guy here posted how architects cut corners everyday to make enough. The lady who is interviewed here she is a foreigner. That means they hired cheap bricklayers from Zimbabwe and Mozambique to undercut local skilled labour. They went and procure building material from another friend who had to cut corners. This are the end results. I am glad this is not under the black government province or municipality otherwise it would be a racial issue. No one is even questioning if the directors have experience in construction or experience like when black business are involved. Media is not dragging the owners of the construction company to the press conference they are just silent. If it was in Gauteng everyone would be talking about BEE and corruption as the cause. I don’t see anyone asking for the name of engineers involved and their qualifications or experience

What is the international standard? This is a total failure in terms of DA governance. What is the angle of attack here, from EWN? Are you scrutinizing DA governance, in DA-run George Municipality? Lets see fair reporting. You crucified the ANC for the Johannesburg tragedy. Lets see what you do here.
Are you 5 years old? This is not a municipality project like in JHB where the political party is in charge. The DA municipality only approves plans and enforce bylaws. If the developer or contractor makes a mistake, it's on them not the DA municipality. Nice try though 🤦♂️
