When Hurricane Sandy hit NYC in late Oct. of 2012 not even a month prior I had just purchased two baby Star Tortoises and Two baby Marginated Tortoises (all about 6-8 week old hatchlings). We were without electricity for about a week here and not wanting to risk losing them during the cold Autumn nights I put them in a small mesh laundry bag and until the electricity was restored they slept in bed with me! My partner who also shared the same bed was not too wild about sleeping with baby tortoises but hey, my apartment - my rules! That relationship ended about a year later but the tortoises are still with me and doing fine. The motto of the story; relationships may come and go but tortoises are forever!
I definitely feel you on that one Kenan... lol!

Yes I always love the info u gave us Kenan and the education. I live in north central Florida and were about to get a bigger piece of property up here and this is all good to know. We raise and keep Rabbits and chickens and of course reptiles. Our new place we gotta have a pond dug or made however also need a nice outbuilding for our snakes amd amphibians. Anyways I really hope after this year I hope mother nature is done with all these cold fronts. Because before in Florida it used to be every 20 to maybe every 10 years we would have a cold spurt now it's been back to back for the last couple years it's dropped to freezing levels. No thanks I moved from up north along time ago to avoid all this and not have a high electric bill with my reptiles because I had to keep everything inside but now it's getting the same way I gotta start getting some more outbuildings and keep them fully heated for my reptiles not what I had in mind with my cold-blooded family

Blake got a heater for his giant pond in his aviary after first cold snap because he lost so many fish. After the second cold snap, he didn’t lose a single one. He has many turtles in that pond also. Maybe he can tell you where he got his heater? That way you wouldn’t have to move them from the rec pond at all. It would save you a ton of time and energy plus peace of mind. Hopefully that helps?

It would be amazing if those Fly River Turtles, Battigers and other large aquatic turtles (and perhaps some Dwarf Caiman) could be kept in a raised “Koi pond” type enclosure with a glass wall(s) or window(s) so they could be observed swimming from the side. Those type “pools” are fairly new but a wonderful alternative to a sub-ground classic pond.

I live in New York. I experienced a power outage and unfortunately lost one of my best Green Iguanas. My other Iguana survived but I recently made the hard decision to rehome it so the same thing wouldn’t happen in the future. Winters here really suck for reptile keeping. I still have my Mexican black kingsnake and Brazilian tarantula, as they handle the cold much better. But I can’t wait to move to Florida so I could once again keep iguanas.

Can you put a pool heater on the rec pond? Obviously, that would be more $$$ but, I would think if Big Rich can heat a 58,000 gallon pool-pond, you should be able to do it too. That might reduce some stress for you, knowing that's one thing you don't have to worry about anymore.

I hear ya man. My tortoises are getting cabin fever. Every chance I get if it’s sunny and more than 50-55 I’ve been letting them out. The Aldabras absorb that sun like nobody’s business. Ha ha. I even brought a couple snakes out the other day. My retic actually likes to poo out in the grass, so if she’s anywhere close to blowin and the sun is out, I like to take advantage. Ha ha.

I’m no expert, but from what I have heard from other UA-camrs, what you really need is a dead cat……..
Or cat ears, they go by various names, but dead cat is the one I have heard most about.
It’s just a fluffy thing you put over your mic and it eliminates all that wind noise, but doesn’t make it sound like the line has gone dead for a second every time you take a breath when you are talking! Plus, you can get one for very little from Amazon.
Just a thought, hope you don’t mind me mentioning it. 🤗🙏🏼🌸

For those barrel/tree stump hides, I'd maybe cut a half circle into it for an opening instead of a square so that the one side of the entrance is open in case they ever manage to get stuck, when you take the front off it has an open side and when the wood cover is on it still is enclosed - does that make any sense? Lol. I am paranoid about those entrances and have taken Dremels to s few hides of various sizes for that reason. Great vid, awesome hide and love that beautiful Argus!!
