🤣While watching the preview clip, I was very excited to see Tom at Kamp Kenan. I had to laugh at myself for that. Love this episode. As Tom said, he just let his lizard friends know that he is kind and there with love by acknowledging them with respect and equality. All animals senses it (humans are animals, too). It is another way we communicate other than sound or movement, and that's why you can't fake it. Once we abandon the idea of "human superiority" and acknowledge all things as equal and alive, we will create a better world. Until then, we will keep destroying and killing everything, including ourselves, senselessly.

Also definitely don’t stick your hand in any dogs face unless you know that dog very very well, get low, sit down and let the dog come up to you. Don’t make eye contact and sound soft and submissive. Let the dog smell you and accept you before you force yourself into it

The amount of knowledge in keeping reptiles that was on this post was impressive. So nice that he is giving you praise on your enclosures and of your animals.
When I was keeping reptiles, I always tried to provide as natural of an environment as possible (obviously the enclosures themselves are not natural, but I did try to keep everything in it natural. Live plants, soil, wood and rocks from where they live. It was always better than a “sterile” set up. Sometimes feeding time was a challenge, but I never got hurt.
Patience is the key. Earning their trust and paying attention to those subtle cues makes all the difference. Most of my animals were wild caught and released (temporary pets as I used to call them). I tried to not be too hands on with those animals as I knew they weren’t going to be kept long term.
It’s like Tom said, “if they don’t perceive you as a threat, they won’t be threatening”. Most animals in the wild will avoid human contact out of self preservation, but if you show that you’re not going to try and eat them…the posture instantly changes.
I’ve had my own experiences with some rather large animals here on Long Island that normally don’t approach people readily, namely White Tail Deer. As a youth, I would frequent the local county parks. There was this time is was exploring an old abandoned fish hatchery in Southaven County Park. It’s very peaceful and one of the few places that you can still see wild Brook Trout spawn. I was watching the fish do what comes naturally and there were a lot of squirrels around, so rustling leaves was a very common sound. I got up to leave and I turned around to be face to face with a large buck. It’s early November, so he had a full rack and I was dressed in a suede jacket and now making eye contact. Now there’s no hunting in the park, so that may have been why he was right up on me. He watched me for a few seconds and then walked off. I wasn’t threatening, so he lost interest and went about his day.
I’ve seen some amazing animals locally over the years and not once did I have a bad interaction, other than Mockingbirds. They really defend their territory vigorously and you don’t know you’ve violated their space until it’s too late.
Again great to see this. Keep on posting, we’ll keep watching.

I do not like “people”. I have learned so much from watching this channel, toms videos, Tyler, Justin gator land, brian b. I enjoy listening to Tom tell his stories or what he’s been proven wrong on!!! The way he is with his grandson…. And can I just say how jealous I am of his grandson???
