I agree, unfortunately some of these content creators wear costumes that make no sense in real life. I really think VERY FEW, content creators have personal style, VERY FEW
This was a great video. I love the transparency. My observation. I am tired of black people( of all diaspora) fighting to be accepted by white systems. We have our own talents, businesses and traditions that originated anything they have done. I'm guilty of consumerism of these huge fashion brands but I have committed to turning away from them and supporting black businesses. I will take my dollars where they will be respected not tolerated. We are loyal to a fault to these brands and get little to nothing in return. So I say "F" them. I have some items but I'm committed to not buying anymore. I'm buying black and smaller brands.
I like The Stylish Truth and kindly ask that you are mindful of not talking over so that the audience can get the full perspective of the speaker. I realize this may be unscripted and i enjoy that. I think the convo will flow better, perhaps cue cards or trade talking points, great convo!!!
Good suggestion. I made a similar comment on their first show. I understand the excitement, but she has to allow the guest/partner to complete their thought w/out interruption.
This was such a great episode! Thanks guys. Loved the luxury convo. I don't do luxury and you covered all the reasons why. I am also glad there was a distinction made between the clean aesthetic and quiet luxury. ✌🏽❤️😍
Also influencers say that they support black-owned brands. But they really only support the ones who people have heard of If I created a brand tomorrow, the black.Influencers would not support unless of course I was able to get a known influencer to post So influencers are doing to small unknown black designers what the bigger designers are doing to them
I follow a lot of people, and I have noticed everyone having the same items and styling those pieces uninspiring. Just basic. No creativity or it looks horrible. Everyone is burying and dressing the same.
I love this Podcast and love to hear the behind the scenes commentary on the Fashion Industry! I often wondered what it took to sit front row if you are not a celebrity. This was so informative! 🙌🏾🙌🏾🙌🏾🙌🏾
I am new to the influencers realm and I am glad to hear these views. Thank you for being transparent so that we won’t be discouraged whenever we enter these spaces. This is great information
I love this conversation, I feel you get different generations' opinions. I also love all the influeners I follow shopped their closet first and not going in debt for one week. This very eye-opening on the shows.
Thank you so much for this video. I enjoy you and your colleagues perspectives because you do give insight and another perspective that I guess people don’t even think about. I think it’s good to bring up the European aspect. I I did comment on one of the fashion or style influences And I enjoyed the video what I pointed out was the observation that these European people showing up to shows they’re doing shows and they they’re basically talking like they didn’t even be there but they’re there to get their money and people of color who were right there ; ready, willing, and able could’ve been selected for these for these shows.but they are not being selected. But, I hope that there is a seat at the table from the standpoint that the people of color who are designers be uplifted and propelled to where fashion shows are being pushed forward where they’re not in debt over these fashion shows but flourishing and being genuinely celebrated . Everything takes time. Keep up the great work, Monica 🙏👑🌅🌟💐💖🎊

It's a good topic but you hardly give him a chance to speak, you constantly talk over him. He actually had some interesting things to say on how black people are not considered profitable and thus marketable, also how are designers reacting to black influencers. So he might have added a lot more insightful info when he wanted to talk about smaller brands, smaller designers, influencers but you don't let the conversation flow.
Thank you for your feedback, but I respectfully disagree. Breon and I are co-hosts, and we each bring our strengths to the conversation. He’s an excellent speaker who always gets his full point across, and we both contribute equally. One thing to note is that our camera cuts off after 30 minutes, so some conversations may be unintentionally cut short without us realizing. This can shift the train of thought to the next topic. We also aim to keep episodes under an hour, so edits are made with that in mind. I appreciate you highlighting what you found interesting, but assuming negativity doesn't move the conversation forward. We’re always open to constructive feedback, but let’s keep it balanced.

Hi Monica Great episode. This is your 2nd episode that I am watching where you are speaking facts, I actually mentioned you in one of my videos on the same topic. I am however curious as to why are we still supporting brands who don't respect us?
Thank you so much for watching! Honestly, I think it’s an addiction-I won’t lie. I don’t shop these brands as much as I used to, and that’s intentional, but my love for fashion keeps pulling me back.
Thank you for the interested Conver and I can see how passionate you are when talking about fashion but just a small but you talk a bit over your guest ( not a critic but an observation) and I love your train of thoughts when you talk about the fashion industry and behind scenes Also I remember those parties in Jamaica of course but we would just follow American culture and that same time it’s happening in the USA we would have sales in fashion around that same time ❤❤
I agree with the things mentioned. Like every year the same thing at nyfw I never understood why every year the same people go and I know it gotta be expensive. Meanwhile, it's cool to link up with friends and other content creators I tend to stop watching vlogs at nyfw cause at some point it's predictable. However I loved your trip to Mexico much better 😊
A few folk mentioned that you were over talking your co-star.. You are, absolutely! You don't seem to be aware, but take a few minutes and do a replay, You'll see. He could barely get in a complete sentence, without your constantly jumping in. He would just fall back and wait . Next time, hold back a bit, let him finish his thought. The content is good, really interesting, but sometimes hard to follow due to your constant exuberant interjection. Additionally turn down your mike a bit,or talk softer. BTW, I am a subscriber, and I do enjoy your content.🤗
It's not going to change, so why clamor to be in a space where you're unwanted? And why want these items that the designers don't want to see "certain" people of color in? I emphasized "certain" because celebrities serve a purpose for them.
Both of you are making valid points but it's annoying that neither of you are letting the other finish what their saying. Yall need to work on that BUT Good program 😊

I have learned to pull back enough to look polished and posh, but never dry and boring! A bag can’t save you 😩 it all has to be cohesive from the bag, shoes, belt, and clothes!
I just learned that Atlanta has an Atlanta Fashion Week. Do you think it is worth buying a ticket? I know ATL isn’t on the level of NY but there are some stylish people here…it could be.
Great conversation in this episode. Keep the information coming!! I would love to hear you both talk on the best or most preferred fashion e-commerce of your choice to buy luxury products and consignment shops.🤗
I think as black people, we should also consider what are we afforded or what do we really gain by supporting all of the huge billion dollar american and european luxury fashion houses. They make billions and billions maybe trillions just to give a few thousand or million to some black models or stylist or designer within those fashion houses. How does what they give black people even compare to what black people contribute towards them being able to make billions if not trillions! They only tolerate black peoples presence to be afforded for them to make all of that money. It’s obvious they don’t want us there or like us. A great portion of the billions made by them we will not see! How many black designers are actually being shown at fashion week wherever it is being held? I ask that question. I know there are many black luxury brands out there and again they inspire and get worn by some top celebrities, so why aren’t they upfront and highlighted, seen and celebrated like the other persuasion luxury designer brands? I personally have stopped buying from a lot of mainstream fashion brands. Actually my love and affinity is for vintage clothing and really has always been ever since I was in junior high school. I buy and support black brands more than ever before because I feel it’s only right that I do as a fellow black designer and artist supporting my own as I should!!! I feel black people today are too concerned about trying to stay on top of all of these european american luxury brands and pay very little attention to our own who are doing groundbreaking phenomenal things in the high end luxury fashion game! I personally think fashion week is weak without black luxury brands!
I guess to me it’s also about what we truly consider luxury! We should take in account that luxury doesn’t necessarily mean expensive or from a european high end designer fashion house brand. Luxury is all things beautiful, comfortable, cozy, rare, timeless, warm, elegant, plush, and personalized, well designed, curated or arranged, very personalized.
