Technically these two are the center of the Friends, their characters are the only who are close with all the other main characters in the friends.
It all started with Monica and Ross. Rachel is Monica's best friend, who Monica let stay with her, to restart her life. Phoebe was her roommate for a bit. Chandler was Ross' college roommate, and Joey became Chandler's roommate.
You both are right. Joey and Monica were like the parents, even if Ross had dad moments with Phoebe too. Joey was made to be dumb and a womanizer (to be nice), but he was so thoughtful and there for his friends, no matter what and really apt to be a loving dad.

They surely are an underrated duo... And i really think that Joey always ALWAYS had a crush or at least in his word want to see Monica to be his girlfriend or to have friends with benefits but Monica is too smart and didnt want Joey jn that type of way at all yet she still treats him like a real true friend!
It is funny that they were thought to be end game in the beginning, but nobody estimates them like that😂
And i especially dislike that place where Joey and Rachel says that Monica and Chandler were not that good as friends and that is why they could date. I personally feel that Monica was great was keeping friendships within their respectable boundaries. Unlike Rachel 😅
