Thanks for the video insights Gordon. You have shown lots of perseverance as a lawyer and law student previously so I'm sure the reasons you highlight here are legitimate. I like your analogy to a movie. I think in the end we have to enjoy the work and not just the corporation, or the status of being a lawyer. Lawyering and the study of law can be so different as I've recently learnt too. Even in movies, there are many actors who spend years as "supporting" actors with minor roles but I think they continue because they genuinely love the work despite the 12-hour shifts and everything. Perhaps we have to find that for ourselves too, at least in a way proportionate to the sacrifices and hard work that we can justify for ourselves. Persnally for me, pursuing justice/fairness is important and I don't mind playing a "supporting" role for this mission, whichever job it may be (I'm a lawyer too btw). Of course there must be flexibility to adjust if things dont work out. Also the job is usually not the most important in life as you've pointed out - all the most successful people i admire try to make time for family/friends even with their busy schedule. You have a love for sharing knowledge/experience with others online which I think is quite uncommon - you could consider education, entrepreneurship, or even something in tech! Cheers and all the best.

You said this is a random video but I think it is indeed a very good one for reflection! After some years of working, I have realised that it is that "sweet spot" which makes me happy - being able to find the perfect balance between money, social status, career sustainability, time for hobbies and family, and most importantly, health. This sweet spot will allow me to die (one day) with the least amount of regret while maximizing the happiness I experienced when I was alive. Such a sweet spot is also in a sense very hard to achieve, but at least I know what I am looking for in life. Looking forward to more videos in the future!

Honestly, I think it really depends - it's not easy to get a decent job as a lawyer these days, but it's definitely a rewarding career long term if you really enjoy it. Many people doing JD Degree are in their late 20s / early 30s so it's not uncommon to become a lawyer later in your life.

@@chanbenjamin3204 Whilst I agree with Gordon's general statement, you need to ask why do you want to become a lawyer. Is it money or fame driven? It is definitely not worth it if you are pursuing the aforementioned. The sad reality of the legal market is that a trainee will, more often than not, receive very average salary in HK unless you are recruited by an international law firm. And I havent really touched upon the competition you will face at law school and it is not a guarantee that you can obtain a license to practice. DO NOT be mistaken that universities will offer you a place to become a lawyer if you pay big bucks doing their program. Most of these programs are cash grab now and they do not care if their students make it or not. Even if you make it, this is just the beginning and you might as well refer to the struggles from Gordon's video.
