    Great how to video.easy to follow,clear pictures. I have an 05 grand marquis that needed strut replacement . Price for service center to do was expensive. Watched your video gave it a try myself.did both sides including upper control arms in about 3 hours. I live in nova scotia so it's nice to see a video that works on cars where we have to deal with rust.will definitely be following for all future repairs.

    Time mark 6:00....Every other Panther upper control arm video I've watched goes through the tedious process of removing the brake caliper and rotor in order to get the sway bar link off, supposedly to make it possible to "access the ball joint nut". I KNEW it had to be possible to get the ball joint nut off and put it back on with the new control arm without taking the brakes and sway bar link off. Lots of elbow grease on a good 'ol end wrench rather than taking all the brake parts and end link off, YES, it's worth it to me. Besides, a ratcheting end wrench would make quick work of it anyway. THANK YOU for showing you can do it that way...... BTW, to all those who don't need to replace the strut, but only the arm, you don't REALLY have to remove the strut to get the 2 control arm bolts out. Just remove the 3 strut top nuts, then pry downwards on the whole suspension like he does at time mark 6:52, and let the top of the strut pull down and outward, hanging it up under the strut tower. You'll have enough room to reach around the strut to get the bolts out around back. Both sides of the car must be suspended, not just the side you're working on, otherwise you'd be fighting the tension of the sway bar and it likely wouldn't be possible to pull the suspension down enough to move the top of the strut.

    Great video, finally someone with a brain. Every other video for Crown Vic struts has the person taking off WAY too much shit. Literally all you had to do was remove the upper control arm nut and you had access. Shame OEM suspension parts aren't available anymore because I need springs right now.

      @@OldeCarrGuy Ah, shit. A word of caution: disconnect the sway bar end link from the sway bar. I just did the job and while I was manipulating the hub and control arm out of the way, the sway bar end link popped out of the socket on the sway bar. I was able to squeeze it back in with channel locks but the boot is permanently torn now. Hoping I can pull a fast one with part warranty at the Ford dealer since I did them less than a year ago lol

    I bought a 2000 Grand Marquis for $2800 American. Started hot rodding it from the get go. The first thing i did was swapped the high mileage 4.6 for a 5.4 with a performance cam from a Ford F150. Scary on the road because it has a full inch of play in the steering. Working on that now. With better exhaust following that. Hope this old car don't kill me!

    I did the upper and lower control arms on my 99 last summer, on my vacation. The 03 and up definitely looks way easier than the old style front suspension. I had to use a coil spring compressor to get the coil springs back in mine and the rear bolt for the upper control arms are FUN to get to.

      It won’t matter what springs you put on (unless they are lowering springs), it will sit a bit higher because that’s the correct ride height. They will squat over time just the the original ones did, however, new springs in the rear should level it out.

    This is a shot in the dark - I hope you can help.
    I have an 03 town car which I am replacing the struts in. Rather than buy Monroe, I went with KYB. The KYB Strut Plus quick struts didn't have the top mount studs properly aligned with bottom mounting hole that the bottom mount bolt goes through. It's several degrees off.
    Did the Monroes come properly aligned, or did you have to make adjustments there?
    Do you know how to adjust the alignment in what I bought? The top mounting plate looks to be the same design as a stock OEM replacement, it's just off by a few degrees.
    Oy vey. What a day it's been.

    • @OldeCarrGuy
      @OldeCarrGuy  4 місяці тому +1

      The strut mount is meant to pivot when the wheels are turning. You should be able to mount the 3 bolts and turn the strut to align the bottom bolt. May need to use a large pair of channel locks or a pipe wrench, but it shouldn't be that difficult to turn. Hope that helps.
      To answer your question about the munroe, I don't recall them giving me any issues.
