What is that guy selling an original Keith Haring In a pawnshop for. He could put them in a NY auction and make over 75,000 or more to a collector on each. But instead he sells them for 48,000 for both!! Definitely not the smallest of moves.
Sheel Sheelman guessing you don't really research the items they sell and how much they sell them for Plenty of their "experts" are absolutely wrong They lose hundreds of thousands on items when they go to auctions You have to hope someone in there who is an act collector of the style or even the artist or else u lose big
Lebron, if they lost hundreds of thousands to auctions, they would base their business around them. Experts are experts for a reason, large majority of the time, they are dead on.
Probably because it os a staged show. Rick is the smartest, dumb person on this planet. He knows everything there is to know about everything that is brought in...except the value. And her owns a pawn business. Have you ever been in a pawn store? It is gold, sliver, high end music equipment, power tools and car audio. Shit that everyone has and wants. Not art and nick nacks and books. It is shit that plays well on tv.
I really love this art expert they bring on the show. He almost always sided with the buyer and generally appears to appraise every piece of art very high, or probably a realistic rate, everything else that is appraised is very low- regardless you could tell Rick was pissed at how high they were appraised at. He certainly didn’t expect that at all. The way that guy smiled at him after hearing the price probably pissed him the Fuck off too. If I were Rick I would have told him to screw. Rick was really short and irritated after hearing the price too. Either way he made out, ppl think that’s a low offer but he doesn’t have to deal with an auction taking a 30% cut after it sells or any other expense that goes with it.
Rick literally has a job for cheating people. Your art guy says their worth 80,000 together & you won't even pay 50,000 for both. He should've at least got 60k
Yea what you dont realize is that he has to sit on them for probably a year or 2 which is holding up money for a while!! And then probably goes to an auction, which will get 25 % of the deal .. so maybe you should educate yourself before speaking because you sound dumb.. he runs a pawn shop, hes in business to get stuff cheaper so he can make some money, nobody told these dumbass people to go to a pawn shop if they want retail price
A common mistake I see a lot on this show that customers make is whenever they ASK for a price instead of demanding. He probably could have gotten 49k instead of 48k but the way he did it made Rick stand his ground.
That is some really nice art. It reminds me of this art that my brother made that made the eyes look really detailed and the smile just made from sharpie. Also the face was like orange marker or something.
@@johnjenks7812 You clearly are not into real art. Real art has no limit or ability. Van Gogh can't be compared here because this is pop art, not post impressionism.
I would have kept them. You could have gotten the $50 grand each out of my mother- she's OBSESSED with his work! I think Rick was kinda bluffing on this one- where can you buy authentic wholesale art?
Any skilled artist with basic knowledge of Haring could have copied it, they need to test the age of the paper and have provenance to be relatively safe. Even with tested provenance, it could still be fake. The safest bet is art from pre-1940, which will test negative for radioactive elements in the atmosphere and soil since the 1940-1970 atomic bomb tests that lightly irradiated our world. Though, anything is possible if someone bought the originals and forged them with time period authentic products. Not sure if the canvas/ paper or paint/ink is what they test for those elements though.
If Rick can find them for $30,000 a piece then why did he need the expert to come in and tell him how much they are worth? I know he needed the expert to verify but he also wanted to know what the price was but why if he already knew?
He is buying them wholesale, so if he can get them at 30k each somewhere else, and is trying to save a little, shouldn't he have offered closer to 60k for the pair?
Why is there what appears to be an original printing of Amazing Spider-Man #1 (Spidey's second ever appearance and first ever series) being stored in a Ziploc bag?
I have a Keith Haring that has a hand written TM beside the signature. Does anyone know what that means. It does have a certificate of authenticity on the back.
expert. these are Keith haring ORIGINALS rick I can probably find these wholesale for 30K me.. ahh no you wont these are ORIGINALS they are 1/1 dipshit hahaha there is no 2nd copy or even re prints of these lol
Beyond belief fake! What makes that guy knowledgeable about Haring. This piece would not be accepted by a Major Auction House. KH never used that many colors, wrong paper, not signed where should be in graphite.
I'm a big fan of Haring and it's kind of easy to tell the real deals from the fakes. These honestly seem to be legit. I don't really understand the argument of using too many colors as Keith always used bright colors like this to show contrast in his works. I also don't really understand the wrong paper thing either since Keith would draw on anything, and as far as the signature goes, if the entire medium is in marker, then why would he sign in graphite? The only things that seem a little off to me is that Keith would usually add the year beside his name, but I've seen instances where that wasn't the case. Also, the signature itself looks a little too much like that perfect, generic one that's used for all his re-printed materials in the Pop Shop. Otherwise, there's nothing that's erroneous to the point where I'd immediately write them off as fake.
He's an 'expert' cuz he already owns it! This show is staged and 'the experts' already own the real pieces, that's how they know all about the piece. They are basically advertising their stuff for sale on this show.
I can draw like that.. even a grade schooler can draw like that.. what's the big deal about this art.. it is the name of the artists..? there's no art in that piece I cant sense any artistry..
Thats the genius in it all. You couldn't have came up with that idea, and nobody would have committed the way Keith did. It had to do a lot with who Keith was that made him so important. Sure you can copy but who would actually care?
Keith never drew the same image twice, save for a few of his favorites like the three-eyed face, or radiant baby. He was also incredibly fast and never sketched anything. His artwork was simple, but he was very creative with how he used it. He would use blank ad spaces in the subway to draw his images and would paint enormous murals for free. The guy is pretty legendary. I suggest looking him up if you want to find out why his work was considered more than just "art".
"I can find them wholesale for $30k a piece"...................
