@@hddrecoveryservices I need help with this SAS Hitachi ultrastar hard drive. It beeps once when plugged in, but doesn't spin. I'm not sure if this is a diode with the s marking code. Here is a pic link... ua-cam.com/video/jH0GtQeJQhA/v-deo.html
Thanks man! It’s worked after removing one of the diode short circuit beeping was gone and successfully recovered our old data! ❤! All positivity to you
Man you just saved my ass!! Thanks so much for doing this exact video, the pcb board was exactly what the problem and I got it fixed and saved a heap of cash because of your help. THANKYOU 🙏🏻
Hello guy, I have a Seagate 4To who doesn't spin. I tried to remove the diode like you did but the disk still not spinning (I mesured 0.693 with multimeter). If I replace the entire PCB do you think it could works ? Thanks for your answer !
Hi, I liked your video. However I am left with the question, how can the circuit work without the diode? I am scared to apply power to the board without the diode as there is a chance it can fry the board. Can you please explain the role of the diode in this instance and how the board can work without it? Thanks.
after removing diodes and having the drive power up would you advise against re-using the drive or would you allow clients to continue using the drive as is? or is best practice to backup the data and get a new drive?
I've got an old SCSI Seagate Barracuda ST150176LC that won't spin up. No noise at all. Drive light on the circuit board does blink, but otherwise no activity. I located two diodes, both Motorola 933 1BL3 ZP, that appear shorted. I haven't removed them yet. Do they need to be replaced? If so, what equivalent diode can be used? I haven't found specs for these diodes. Thanks.

This video helped me to diagnose and get a damaged 1TB Seagate video hard drive (ST1000vm002) from a Rogers Nextbox 3 going again. The problem is exactly the same, a shorted diode (which did not test ok after removal). When I removed the diode the drive spun up and was recognized. I am surprised the drive board without that diode enables the drive to work. Can the drive be operated "as is" or should the diode be replaced?

Just want to open it to replace the drive. Any suggestions?
i have the same issue but both diodes seem to have continuity. one reads .699 and one reads about .500. is it still possible one of the diodes is bad? should i remove them and test the drive without them?
Great video! Do you mind sharing what tools do you use to remove the diode? I have a same exact drive ( actually 3 of them! ) and they all died on me at the same time!

Im sure this is a stupid question but I don't get something. You touch red and black probes together to demonstrate the sound. In other words if the current goes through the diode and we touch the red and black probes on both ends of the diode it should be exectly the same as if we just touch them together (without the diode in between) and the sound should occur?
Not stupid, he was not clear about this: The basic function of a diode is to let current flow ONE way only....by "shorted" he means the diode lets current through both ways. The "arrow and a line" he mentioned is the symbol for a diode (can't type it here, just look it up and you'll see what I mean)...the arrow part of the symbol indicates which side is + and the "line" side of the symbol is the minus (negative) side. Current is supposed to flow from plus to minus, and if you test with the probes that way, you are supposed to get a sound...but if you switch the probes (put red on the minus side, and black on the plus side) and you still get a sound, the diode is no good.

ST3000DM001 Have problems with Head 4... When imaging the drive I can see a pattern: where a batch of sectors wouldn't get read, then a long batch would get read, and then a small batch not read again etc - with equal intervals. I ran /7 -> X through serial and got resistance values for all heads. All heads reading around 300 (need to convert from HEX to Decimal) except head 04 (head 5) which reads 540. @@hddrecoveryservices Thanks for your reply. There seems to be no fuse on the PCB. As the HDD doesn't make any sounds at all, the issue is probably the PCB right? If I would replace the PCB for a new one, I would need to replace the BIOS chip on the new PCB for the 'old' BIOS chip, right?
Hi, I have this problem with a Seagate ST2000DM001 - I got the same short on one of the two Diodes. I removed the diode which had shorted, but it still indicates a short across the pads once removed - and the drive still will not spin. HELP!!
Paul Archer Paul at this point your best bet would be to locate an identical PCB part number and swap out the eeprom chip from your failed board to a new working one. That will adapt the new board to work with your hard drive. I don't go beyond troubleshooting the diodes on these when it comes to failed/shorted boards because my inventory of donors is really good and it is just way easier to pull the donor than try to figure out what is wrong on component level.

Hi, I received a NTLDR error. My 500 gb Seagate Barracuda divided in two partitions is not detected in Bios bootable section. It makes a slight beep sound whenever I start my PC. Just two beeps. What should I do?
Very interesting. Impressed with your knowledge and very professional. Shame we don't have people in the UK like yourself. Not only a very nice guy and knows what he's talking about but also whiling to share his experiences and knowledge here on UA-cam. You sir have a new sub. An see myself going through your entire channel watching a lot. I've had a few experiences with bad drives and loosing data so will be interesting to watch your videos. I have a USB stick that says it read/write protected when it's not and has never been made protected. Just on day it decided to screw up and I lost so much. It's was only 8GB but I had 7 years of Xbox360 game save files and a backup of some important stuff. One question I'd like to ask. Without going into huge detail I have a custom water cooler very high preformance PC and I've seen some people have a clear top, see through lid or case cover on there HDD so you can see it all working etc. all my SSDs are on show and I'd love to do the same
I see what you mean, I've seen those covers. Custom made out of plexy. At my old work we actually made one :). But once hard drive is opened it would be hard to keep it reliable, unless you run RAID1 in case it fails.
Man i just go two of these 3tb seagates from a lady in town. Both are plugged into the SATA 6 pin power port on my EVGA and on only recognizes 3.8 gigs and the other does register at all. One makes that beeping noise as well while the other spools just fine but cannot initialize the drive due to an I/O error. .
Got a quick question... I am a sad owner of seagate expansion desktop 100664987 rev b - 3TB version. Lately without any sign drive just stopped working. Right now situation is: when connecting drive the computer I can hear that it starts spinning but after two-three seconds it just stops and nothing happens. Do you thing that this might be something with device pcb or power supply pcb? I know that this is only estimation and guessing without seeing device but I would like to know your opinion. I can upload video showing how it behaves if that helps... Alternatively, what would be estimated cost of recovering data from that drive?
Thanks for your videos! Any idea what might be wrong if seagate 2TB works just fine when detected, but... it's not detected all that often lately?.. It spins just fine, no weird noises. No errors in any test, SMART is ok, disk isn't too old yet (the newest I have aside from its replacement). And somehow BIOS just says says it's not there after being stuck on motherboard loading screen for like 30 sec. Swapping to other SATA doesn't help, other hdds work fine in its place. Tried to clear its contacts like you showed in this video, doesn't seem to help (but I got it detected at least 2 times after that). There's no data to save left, just wondering if it's something that might save me 2TB of space being tossed to trash.
I have this drive and it died! spins up fine - sounds normal - windows and bios do not see it - i removed the pcb and cleaned the contacts - same problem - any idea what could be wrong?
Hi I have a hardisk with the Rom (Bios burned - in the sense that PCB's rom is missing) Reason I had buying a card to do the swapping but the repairman lost the original card) Do you think it is possible to recover my Seagate Hardisk? In short, the HD has never been opened and card that has does not have the original BIOS I feel the engine turns but it doesn't see any data windows with new pcb donnor Thx Franco Italy

I have a Seagate where it no longer recognizes the HDD password, bedsides a platter swap at technical lab can switching the exact PCB get it working to get the data off??
I have this exact drive and the exact diode tested bad, I removed the diode and the path tested good. The other diode/path tested good. The drive still does not spin up. What would you recommend the next steps be? I don't have a lot of internal experience on HDD Recovery, but I work with computer and am pretty comfortable around most things computer related. Any advice or assistance would be appreciated. Another note, I only have one of these drives, so I cannot currently take out parts from one and put in another. If that is a viable option, let me know and I'll look at picking another drive up. Thank you in advance.
HDD Recovery Services is another short an easier fix then another option? The stuff that you do is very inspirational and I would like to get more in to this line of work. Great content and video production.
yo, I received a factory new drive from Seagate and the motor doesn't spin up. It gets detected in the device manager, sometimes also in the disk management without any storage showing up for it. I actually ordered two units, both of them seem to be from the same charge, although the PCB of the defective drive looks a bit discolored. I tried that one first in my external drive enclosure and it didn't spin up, so I assumed my external enclosure was defective (many reported cases of not detecting drives with more than 2TB of storage). I dropped the other drive in there and it worked without an issue, so I guess my one of the new HDDs is simply defective. Do you have any thoughts on that?
I bought a new seagate 1tb hdd and sometimes my pc doesnt detect it,sometimes it can.and it is freezing sometimes. What should i do? how can i detect the problem. What is the best tool, software for testing hdd? Thanks mate...
Would really appreciate an answer to this. You use special software after to look at the sectors etc, is this necessary or could you just plug it in and use as normal?
I have a seagate barracuda 7200.12 500gb hard drive. and it was making a tickling sound i thought it was a hdd problem and opened the drive and remove the head and put it back it shows once in device manager and again nothing..i try to fix the heads but not worked anything. later i checked my pc with another hdd it also struggles to power up then i was realize its a smps problem later i replaced the smps but right now the seagate barracuda 7200.12 drive is spins when powered up and stops after a 1-2seconds and the tickling sound is clearly audible. is it a pcb problem or what? i put this pcb in other 160gb hard drive it did the same spin and stop. I bought another new seagate pipeline 500gb hdd and luckily its pcb number same as old. should i replace the rom ic and try with new board. or can i replace the new hard drive head to old one or its better to platter swap.how to recover data from old drive.can't afford to hire a professional data recovery analyst.any help is highly appreciated.Thank you in advance for your valuable time
i have a dead hard drive, and i was hoping to recover the files(mainly photos, videos, and some backup messages). I'm no professional and i fear that i might damage the data, right now i seek professional help. i just want to know if you accept orders outside your country(btw im from philippines). please reply..thanks in advanced.
Hey i just sent a drive to outsource datarecovery services, and i KNOW for a fact the data on it is still good. The problem it has is that it TRIES to spin up but cant complete it. So i logically figured its either gonna be the PCB or barely possible the Spindle having a problem. I was told 3 times that all it would need is the $60 pcb swap, then they call and say "nope only data recovery will work" But literally 30 mins before it just stopped spinning i WAS AT THE DAMN DESKTOP, the files are fine. And you seem like an upfront sorta dude, how much would it cost for a PCB swap, or in the worst case a Spindle swap, i really really dont have a lot of money, which is why when he quoted me $600 dollars for data recovery, i just thought "data recovery?? why it doesn't need data recovery, the problem is its not spinning up"
What if it does spin but isn't recognized?
Bro, this video saved me 400 bucks. Can't believe it was as simple as popping off a diode. Thanks!

Hi please reply
My usb power bridge on 2tb hdd is not picking the hard drive. I checked it separately the bridge led is on when connect to power but when connect with hard drive the light goes away and no sound nothing on hdd. Please suggest
hi i have the 1tb baracuda it power up and spins with no funny noises , shows up as being pluged in with usb but doesnt show up as a usable drive if i go to drive manger it doesnt show up , im thinking its the pcb on it any ideas?
Hi, I received a NTLDR error. My 500 gb Seagate Barracuda divided in two partitions is not detected in Bios bootable section.
It makes a slight beep sound whenever I start my PC. Just two beeps. What should I do?
How much would it be for the diode remover tool and how would it be replaced, soldered or other method.
I am not sure what you mean by diode remover.
My mistake.
Kenneth Lantier you can remove smd things like a diode with a hot air gun or a soldering machine.
Hi my PC hard drive spin and recognized but it doesn't show capacity how can I solve this problem with my PC hard drive. Thanks advanced
Thanks for the video, it organized and elaborative.
I have a question tho, why didn't you replace the diode you removed ?
for data recovery process it is not needed
So the hdd will turn on without replacing the shorted diode?
Technically yes
For clarity, all you did was remove the bad diode, correct?
yes
If it works again after removing the diode, could you use again your hard drive normally or do you have to backup it immediately?
My tvs diode is not shorted and the disk does not spin. What do I test now? Should I renove it anyway?
You need to check 0ohm resistors by power connectors make sure those fuses are not blown
Did you not have to replace the failed diode...
Not if you just want to save the data and don't care about the long term protection of the hard drive
Hi I have a hardisk with the Rom (Bios burned - in the sense that PCB's rom is missing)
Reason I had buying a card to do the swapping but the repairman lost the original card)
Do you think it is possible to recover my Seagate Hardisk?
In short, the HD has never been opened and card that has does not have the original BIOS
I feel the engine turns but it doesn't see any data windows with new pcb donnor
Thx Franco Italy
how about no sounds dioda test but disk not spin & detect
i have replaced bios from one pcb to another pcb. Source pcb is kc48 and toner pcb is kc66. after changing bios the hdd detect but after few sec disconnecting .... what is the problem?. how i solve this issue?.
so i checked my drive and i have a short circuit, so if i take off the diod i can than make a copy and than ditch the old drive how should i do it?? what programms should i use?
remove the short, and copy the data out. no special soft needed
i have wd 1tb it has power surge issue i tried it different port and computer but it has the same power surge error..what to do?
I know this is an old video, but I have this drive it died a year ago and I just got it up and running and Windows and Linux don't even recognize the partitions?
is there any software to recover the hard disk data
can it still do this with out the meter
I'm having seagate 500gb hard disk. It is not detected how to resolve this problem
I have maxtor diamond d maxplus 9 IDE hdd 3,5 120gb.short with smoke.end 1 have good hdd 80gb maxtor. Diamond d maxplus 9 ide.i replace mainboard hdd.but stil short end smoked.can u tell me what wrong
My bios recognizes the drive but I cannot find it while in Windows. Any tips?
Hi..
I need help ASAP please.. my hard drive does spinn and i feel the motion of the inner parts even though its not detected by either bios or pc or any other pc.. what to do???? is it PCB board or head problem or what..
thank you, a question, what happened if we keep it with just one diode?
next time there is a power surge, it will hit something more vital if you don't replace the TVS, otherwise its fine.
does replace pcb / board also fix slow reading hard drive? I have WD home studio hard drive which suddenly very slow reading and some files cannot be read, thanks in advanced
I have a Seagate where it no longer recognizes the HDD password, bedsides a platter swap at technical lab can switching the exact PCB get it working to get the data off??
if the drive spins - PCB is not a problem
I have this exact drive and the exact diode tested bad, I removed the diode and the path tested good. The other diode/path tested good. The drive still does not spin up. What would you recommend the next steps be? I don't have a lot of internal experience on HDD Recovery, but I work with computer and am pretty comfortable around most things computer related. Any advice or assistance would be appreciated. Another note, I only have one of these drives, so I cannot currently take out parts from one and put in another. If that is a viable option, let me know and I'll look at picking another drive up. Thank you in advance.
you need to look for another possible short

Do you have any thoughts on that?
hello sir, my hard drive is spinning. do you have any idea what to do? it's light stays solid blue but the computer is not detecting it.
youre genius brother....,my 2 Tb Hdd is function now....
:) glad to hear that!
What is program for scan?
I bought another new seagate pipeline 500gb hdd and luckily its pcb number same as old. should i replace the rom ic and try with new board. or can i replace the new hard drive head to old one or its better to platter swap.how to recover data from old drive.can't afford to hire a professional data recovery analyst.any help is highly appreciated.Thank you in advance for your valuable time
Which software was use to recover the data from dead drive plz send me link.i am from delhi
Thanks so much! Opened diodes shorted 0 ohms and recovered my data. PSA modular PSU connectors are not standardized!
How do I find the diode part #?
Hi bro. Do u still reply? I have exact same hdd like in that video. 2TB, can i just replace pcb with same model but different capacity with it?
Yes you can, but firmware needs to swap. EEPROM chip from original goes to the donor
@@hddrecoveryservices bios chip right? thanks bro. btw i have comment on your latest video. hope to hear your answer soon 😁
What software are you using to turn heads on and off?
JGAN96 data extractor, it only comes with PC3000. Not cheap but the best tool hands down
i have a dead hard drive, and i was hoping to recover the files(mainly photos, videos, and some backup messages). I'm no professional and i fear that i might damage the data, right now i seek professional help. i just want to know if you accept orders outside your country(btw im from philippines). please reply..thanks in advanced.
Hi renz, maybe I can help. :) Samaritan Philippines
Please could you help me what to do, one of harddisk partition has file system courpted i traied many ways pleas help me 😢
Hey i just sent a drive to outsource datarecovery services, and i KNOW for a fact the data on it is still good. The problem it has is that it TRIES to spin up but cant complete it. So i logically figured its either gonna be the PCB or barely possible the Spindle having a problem. I was told 3 times that all it would need is the $60 pcb swap, then they call and say "nope only data recovery will work"
But literally 30 mins before it just stopped spinning i WAS AT THE DAMN DESKTOP, the files are fine.
