Everybody gets this part wrong. When you land on the "go to jail" square, you will not pass GO. Look at the police man, he is pointing in the direction you are to move, which is not pass GO. So you will never pass GO from the "go to jail" square. Just like the "GO" square, it points you in the direction you are to move.
"This game has spawned well over a thousand variants" and also well over a thousand fights. I don't know what it is about this game that makes you want to fight somebody, lol
I like Monopoly if played BY THE ACTUAL RULES and not prolonging it by putting fines on free parking, and by not auctioning off every property landed or by not being able to buy property unless you go round the board once.
I always thought that rolling doubles three times in a row you go to jail rule was dumb, and in fact in my family we never used that rule. I never understood why that was necessary. The game is about strategy and also trying to simulate business deals. Rolling the dice is luck. If you land on "go directly to jail" fine, but what sense does it make to punish a person who has "the good fortune" to roll three doubles in a row? I use that in quotes because the rules apparently say that is not good fortune, but again, dumb. Also, in our house, all of the money paid in fines/penalties got put in the center of the board and if you landed on free parking you got to collect the money. I always thought that was fun. I guess we didn't play by the "rules" but was fun nonetheless
There's actually not a lot wrong with the game, until people start adding rules they just KNOW are in the instructions "somewhere", and suddenly it becomes a chore. Collecting all fines when you land on Free Parking is the biggest curse Monopoly has in my house. This one makes an already lengthy game, go on for a week and a half and drives me up the wall. I've given up trying to have someone in my family point out where in the rules this nonsense is written, because they always say they'll find it for me "sometime", and then the misery continues. But if I can find people who play by the proper rules, I like this game, and I like your video about it too mate.
Dang. I miss the original board game version of Monopoly. Haha. That was what I grew up with. Honestly, I miss board game nights with my family and friends.
First comment from me in quite a while, and it ended up being about this crap. Dang! Not a favourite at all, I have a bunch of Swedish similar games, with much better rules. The only interesting strategy I use, is Auction, and most players hate me for it. And if anyone suggests "house rules", I'm out!
@@BoardGameMuseumer So far so good, pandemic - new schedule - new work place and all. BUT retirement is around the corner!! Hope you and family are well!

This is a good version. Played it a lot in the 80s and 90s. I love having all four railroads. They really bring in the cash.
Thank you man!
