Well very few people (even some of the best sopranos) can sing in the "whistle register" and pull it off perfectly, in tune and all. I'm sure Minnie Riperton (RIP) would be very proud of her.
There are a lot of perfect performances in the voice, and it is very difficult to pick one, but this one is the most amazing of those. That ability to show different kind of vocal techniques all in the same song, and more importantly... they sound perfect together. She can sing raspy, soft, with falsetto, with vibrato, she sings riffs, she can sing the more high vocal register known as whistle register.. damn! how well she change the color of her voice. She has everything, a perfect control, and put everything right for this song. Will is not a good singer at all, but he knows how to do things in music's world. I have to say, the winner girl was perfect too in her performance of Angel, totally perfect, and the choice of song was perfect too. But Leah is from another world.
For me, the thing that makes her version so amazing is that she brings those lower notes into it so that the song doesn't just stay in the upper register. Her power is just really special.
It's very true ! I agree with that ! But don't forget that she also did successfully where everybody waited for her: in that highest notes. That's why people give a round of applause after doing it. I saw some girl named Ella Henderson sing this song on X Factor UK and all she did the whole time was growl. This girl understands it's a love song and didn't get temperamental with her singing. I'm just saying that there is more to a song than just singing the words. You have to have true understanding of what you're singing in order to portray the essence of the song and it's meaning to your audience. Ella is still young, so I'm sure she will learn more and get better at that aspect of singing as time goes on. Leah on the other hand seems to have a leg up in that department already. I'd kill to be half the singer either of them are. You should check out Ella's cover of "Believe" by Cher! You'll be quite pleasantly surprised at how not annoying it is.
Well, here it is 16 March 2015 and this is the first time I've ever heard of Leah McFall. Something intrinsically wrong with the music industry not marketing such a talent, dubbed "The Voice!" Why in the world has this girl not exploded in the US? She blew this song out of the water, and it was a version I'm sure Minnie would've put her blessings on! Talk about owning it and making it your own! My jaw dropped-this girl can sing!
There were a lot of great Singers that initialy were not great artist, but as the years went by, they learned crowd showmanship: Carrie Underwood and Kelly Clarkson, just to name 2!
This is why i stopped watching shit shows like the voice bgt xfactor because the real winners never actually Win. Leah won this comp hands down in talent.
Why does she only have 8 millions views? Come on this is incredible! Her different tone colors, which are appropriate for ever moment. her range...she has such flexibility...did she win this thing? If not, she better be dang appreciated in some other competition for such hard work.

Minnie Riperton who sang the original version of this song and still to this day does it the best. The high notes she hit (trills) helped make this song her signature tune and allowed her to share her astounding vocal brilliance. Leah McFall honours this signature and then she makes it her own by doing vocal runs from high to low registers with very good technical control without suffocating the tone or losing pitch/breath. She does so with confidence and shows great command of a very difficult emotionally-driven song that has a lot of expectation attached to it. I'm totally open to her interpretation of this song and I feel she did a great job of owning it whilst showcasing her considerable vocal talent and love of singing.
I'm doing research for a job I'm doing next Monday and pulling up some of the songs that have a lot of meaning to me from my past is great fun - love it.
Saw will.i.am live in December and Leah was there and performed this song and she literally moved me to tears as her voice is so amazing, keep on rocking Leah!!

When I first saw the words "Loving You" and "The Voice" on the side panel next to another video, I thought "Who the hell would sing THAT song on a singing competition?" But wow, she did great. She sounds better than most people on American televised singing competitions.
I was lucky enough to see her perform this song Live in Birmingham during a tour she did in 2017.. and it was absolutely insane!! It genuinely sounded even better than in this video. 👌 She's really lovely aswell, I got to speak to her after.
