I'm unsure whether it is faster or not, but I destroyed the Kremlin with the two Kirovs. If you move them along the western border of the map it is possible to reach the purple atomic reactors. Destroying them had disabled the purple's defences, leaving the Kremlin an easy target.
I have a yearly tradition to play through ra2 and yr campaigns for nostalgia and because the game is awesome. I didn't need this video 🤣It shows me how bad i am at the game :P
Trust me, playing it the traditional way is way more fun and satisfying than this… and you can’t be bad if you’ve never even tried approaching it this way! :>
When I was small on last level my "speedrun strategy" would be like build some Dreds and send them to the top left corner where they could reach chronospere after promotion
Funnily enough, this was a strategy I was experimenting on right after I finished this speedrun. It takes too long though because you'd need multiple dreads + promotion on at least one of them to be able to reach the Chronosphere. In any case, my latest video actually exhibits the new fastest method to clear this mission, so do check it out if you are interested and have not already! :>
You have to time it as it fires the first time where you spam left-click and the stop key alternately really fast, same as I did in Operation: Desecration.
If it makes you feel any better, it took me hours of repeated experimentation for the most consistent way to pull off that 20-second bit, but even "the most consistent" did not guarantee I would get that when I finally went for full runs! ;>
amazing run! was wondering if you have a speedrun for this on hard difficulty? just wanted to see what variations in strats you employed in that difficulty.
Thank you! Speedrun.com leaderboards don't really care what difficulty you play on, only the time it takes for you to complete a campaign. Because of that, Hard would take a little longer because of certain missions' extra enemy forces composition and the like, so I probably wouldn't be running a full campaign of this on Hard anytime soon. If you're interested, I just did a remastered Yuri's Revenge's Allied Campaign on Hard because it actually saves time in one mission over the other difficulties (mission 6).
Awesome dude 👍 how long would it take on hard difficulty? For me I don't see difference in difficulties in this game since the AI is dumb but every second matters in Speedrun so i was curious to know how long would it take 😂
Amongst all the campaigns in the RA2-YR series, only the Allied Campaign in Yuri's Revenge should be played on Hard difficulty because Trick or Treaty (mission 6) gives you less time to prepare against Yuri's onslaught in London, which essentially is a timesave for speedrunners. For this specific speedrun, I don't exactly remember how much time I calculated the theoretical difference would be between the difficulties when I was studying it and theory-crafting new strategies, but here's one major difference that you'll notice from the current best (yet old) Hard difficulty speedrun of this category: ua-cam.com/video/52c_QSg64fs/v-deo.htmlsi=9GM8Z4YtRa4HikQC&t=598 Hostile Shore (mission 2) gives you only four Rhino tanks to start with on Hard; in my run (Easy), you get double that amount. Had there been a division of categories for difficulties, I would have done all of my runs first on Hard because I really love the challenge. This was why I was really reluctant to run all other campaigns (including this one you see here) for a long time after my first world record, but I eventually decided that I had way too many new and improved ideas to just be left on the back burner! :> In any case, if I had to give an estimate, I'd say I could probably still beat the current #2 time (played on Easy) on Hard with the knowledge I have now, considering this run is nearly three full minutes ahead of the next run on the leaderboards. Of course, I have newer ideas that I haven't gotten to test as well, but I don't see the point of pushing myself towards unhealthy levels of frustration again if there's no one to beat. And for this campaign specifically, I dread having to play through it again because of how suicidal yet lucky I got in The Fox and the Hound (mission 9). When I was planning and practicing my full playthrough, I really convinced myself that I would not settle for the safe method because I wanted to craft the closest to the "perfect run", setting an RNG barrier for future runners to have to beat (and possibly drive them mad trying to replicate that success)... XD
