Gil will be lights out tomorrow vs Mets ( Wednesday) . He took the spin rate down against the Os looking to go more innings. They never should have put that "we need innings" pressure on a rookie without a long discussion about how to do it. He won't make that mistake again anytime soon.
Here's the thing about Ben Rice. Historically guys who have a great k/bb rate usually don't have problems when they come up from the minors. Their OBP/OPS and Avg. don't suffer . Sometimes the # get better. If the Yanks are smart about this they have a 1st baseman that can catch too. That versatility is invaluable. My prediction is he's one of the next franchise players in NY. He goes into AB with a plan and plays head games with pitchers. Looking for a pitch and check swinging on pitches out of the zone on the opposite side or level than he's looking for early in the count. Changing zones after 2 strikes or 2 balls. He doesn't chase out of the zone and he's got a good eye . Major league pitchers throw more pitches in the place they choose making him more effective and he's good at knowing how they're pitching him. He actually got more predictable pitches when he moved up to AAA. Now I have to hunt video on MLB to keep up. Not enough $$ to go to MLB games.
Baboone etc aren't going to give Ben that shot, unfortunately, baboone has pretty much admitted he'll play musical chairs with Davis just like their doing with Wells,
Yanks need to move some of the 8 top rated players in the minors that will be rule 5 eligible. They can't put them all on the 40 man. They'll lose some anyway in December.
