The Ninety Eight is absolutely rebuildable and deserves to be saved after surviving over 40 years plus the fact it's a diesel. Not many left. Love Oldsmobile diesels, I enjoy driving my 80 Cutlass diesel more than my model car.
Black car. It’s was to nice. Plus it gives you content. I would not really know how to do it either but it would be fun to watch you try! Good luck man!
Wow. So sorry for your loss. Yes, for many of us, losing an old car we love is a loss nearly like a family memeber. With that said, I'd have a black full vinyl top put on the tan one. Leave the interior in it since the black with maroon would look great. Fix the brake lines and use some of the needed parts off the black one. Then have a nice black paint job put on the tan one and drive it out.
Ryan... sorry to see the 98 in that condition. I know you will rebuild it. My wife took a nice picture of it when you picked up the timing meter. I will be following the build. Talk to ya, Dave
I had a 1980 Regency BrohamBlack inside and out. that was back in 1985. had the tru spokes, vogues, curb feelers and a few other dodads. i would use the silver for parts and repair the black one. the black one is mint in comparison. It is nice to see this so many years later for me. Beautiful. if you do the clip, replace all the body bushings while your at it.
Ordered one in the January of '80.......Black, black leather, NO half roof, no holes in the roof.....every heavy duty option available.....w/a DIESEL ........Radio delete (Alpine replacement) .......so comfortable.......a highway ship.....miss it so
I like Corvairs a lot. What I see when I go to car shows are cars that have been assembled with bits and pieces. It pains me to see a wrong this or that on a car. It is glorious to see one that someone has left stock and correct. Whatever you do, go with the best base. Strip the sheet metal off the black one and see if the frame is square before you choose. Arm yourself with knowledge before you decide.
First, glad you and the passengers are ok. Second so sorry for your loss. Me personally, I like black better tan. Having owned a GMC Sonoma with the red interior, I am not a fan of the red/Burgandy. Really it comes down to the frame on the black car. After listening to the video, the swap into the tan car then a repaint on the tan car may be the way to go. As long as the wife agrees with you on the way to go it will be an easy decision. Sounds like an involved project with a lot of teaching time for your children. Ryan, best of luck with your decision.
I am so sorry to to see and hear what happened. I am glad to know everyone is okay. I am sorry your daughter was heart broken. Invest. Fix and repair and restore other areas. You will decide what you will do. Either way you will have a 1981 Oldsmobile Ninety Eight. It is better to do the gray 1981 and paint it black and swap the interior and parts. Clean title and better condition.
Sad about the accident. Glad no one was hurt. I'd fix the black one. The tan one is nice but the black one deserves to be saved. It's part of the family.
I would definitely fix the black one for your daughter. She will always have memories of the trip with it and unfortunate accident and the rebuild because of how heartbroken she was because it's her favorite car. I would definitely leave the painting of the car to a professional especially when it comes to black cars cuz you can always tell where one has been repainted if you know what to look for and it does stand out It's a beautiful car I had a two-door coupe burgundy one I loved I called it the love boat lol
Sorry about the accident glade no one heart , keep them both , - that accident is a prove that your driving a safe car . - I m lucky to drive one from the 80s 98s , we had many as 5 , my father , big brother, older sister thoughts are wonderfully built cars easy to fix . - from 80 to 84 98s body parts the same , olds delta 88 shares many 2 ، plus front till 85 is the same . - the frame look nice the hood not that bad ، and 98 of the car is in good condetion , over all the car look so special and expected to hold the value and the effort it needs . my thinking to repaint the light one 2 - 98s my favorites cars from GM.
That would break my heart. My Dad had a 1925 Cadillac he took to the Newport RI car show back in 1984 he won 2nd place on the way home was side swiped by a pickup truck from just behind the drivers door back. Totaled the car. After insurance paid him he sold the car and it was re bodied as a convertible
I had the same problem with my 84 98. Keep the Black one. My 98 took a harder hit to the front and was declared a total. And they were able to fix mine so that it looks and drives fine. The only problem to be honest with you is that it's next to impossible to get at true alignment. She has a slight pull to the right. You can't put the car on a alignment machine and get some 20 something millennial to align her. I have to get myself a gray hair guy like myself to get the alignment done with some touch and feel. You can't put a dollar amount on emotions, especially when a young lady is concerned. Luckily those Oldsmobiles can take a licking and keep on ticking. They built them like Brick Sh#/ Houses. To add insult to injury mine even went through 151,000 miles on NY driving. If the car was a cat it would have used up all it's 9 lives.
Sorry about that beautiful 98. It was a real pretty car. I am in search of filler extensions for this gen olds 98. Is there someone who repros them. If anyone can help or direct me I appreciate it. Thanks in advance.
I had one bk in 80s lowered clean bad mothersucker love to hv one again I know how much they worth bk them now with a gd title I buy both as is insurance not bad just get full coverage that's all we did bk them in Midwest states it was much easier to change fix them most GM cars inter change 👍 custom fancy up am 62 we know vehicles
If I was you, I'll keep the both of them, they both running and driving just find another '80 to '84 oldsmobile 98 front end and keep the both of them and just drive the champaign 98
if it were me...I'd restore the tan one to it's glory!!! and the black one...I'd scour salvage yards for the parts it needs...I'd keep BOTH!!! don't part out the tan one...and have the both professionally painted...but keep both..keep both keep both!! you should be able to find the parts for the black on at a salvage yard!!!
Car would have survived better if ya hit the other vehicle with your bumper. I suspect that by you slamming on the brakes, the car nosedived under the Lincoln. I like the black car better.
I agree, I think the sheet metal would have fared better but also I think the frame would be in rough shape which is much harder to repair. Six of one, half a dozen of the other I suppose 🤷🏼♂️. In any case, I'm going to fix both of them up now, just can't part either one out haha!
They first offered me $5k with me keeping the car and placed a scrap value on the car of $200. After rejecting several offers I got them up to an ACV of $9k and they then raised the scrap value of the car to $1,500. All said and done with me keeping the car put $7,500 in my pocket. As far as it being a lot for the car, there are tons of them for $3k or $4k but they just flat out are not even close to comparable to this car. They will be rusty, interior trashed, engine needing work, paint in rough shape etc... if this was a clean title car I would easily place this cars value around $12k based on what I see for sale across the country.
@@BigMessGarage i seriously cant even find a good daily vehicle much less one with an oldsmobile diesel. i would easily pay 3 grand for that tan one even after you swap fenders and grill as long as its still driveable
I vote for the black car. You and your daughter both love that car, that makes it worth it.
And one day when your daughter can drive, you should gift the black car to her.
The Ninety Eight is absolutely rebuildable and deserves to be saved after surviving over 40 years plus the fact it's a diesel. Not many left. Love Oldsmobile diesels, I enjoy driving my 80 Cutlass diesel more than my model car.
The diesels are just too cool to walk away from haha!
Source the parts for the black one in a junkyard, and drive the silver one as a daily.
my sentiments exactly!!!! keep both!!
Fix the black one
The more I hear this the more I like this idea haha!
“Suckers to the side I know you hate my 98” - Public Enemy
Fix the black one
I want to fix both haha!
Black car. It’s was to nice. Plus it gives you content. I would not really know how to do it either but it would be fun to watch you try! Good luck man!

Definitely fix the black one!

It's official, I'm going to make them both drivers haha! Just need to find more parts again now 😂
You definitely need another parts car for the black one. It may take some patience but it'll be worth it!

Fix the black Olds!! You can keep both, just get donor cat parts from another Olds.
That would break my heart. That would certainly be an awesome car to have around now!
If it were me, I'd swap the wheels (love the wheels, btw), the interior, paint it black, and have a vinyl top installed on the silver.
I'm making them both drivers now and have some wheels lined up ready to go for it already 😎. Keep an eye out for more videos to see!
Id say put the best parts of the two together. But i would also say to test any ideas on the other one to make the keeper a bit nicer to live with.
It sure would be nice to have two of them on the road lol
@@BigMessGarage I'm not arguing there. That was probably the next step in my train of thought. Make one very nice car and piece the other together.

Totally agree!
Use interior from wrecked one ,swap wheels and other good driveline stuff and fix brake line and drive the gold one
Black one 100%, Collect parts for it or go to the south and get the parts for it. Drive or flip the other one in the meantime.
Sorry about that beautiful 98. It was a real pretty car. I am in search of filler extensions for this gen olds 98. Is there someone who repros them. If anyone can help or direct me I appreciate it. Thanks in advance.
I believe there are some good ones available on eBay.
@@BigMessGarage Thanks. I was hoping the 98 guys know of any repros being made.
Hey Ryan, if you part one of those out, I would love to grab some parts off you.
We'll chat some more on this 😎
The black one is the best use the faded one for parts car

Nice olds like them both
Fix the black one, source the parts in a junk yard.
Im surprised man u seem like a really good driver
Unfortunately it can happen to anyone, just one small distraction and that's all it takes 😕
If I was you, I'll keep the both of them, they both running and driving just find another '80 to '84 oldsmobile 98 front end and keep the both of them and just drive the champaign 98

thats a shame ... they are wonderful cars to drive ... like riding a pillow ,my father had an 84 ... drove it a fair bit
Black car needs to be fixed . Way too nice !
@@nickpanico5441 check out some of the newer videos too, I decided I'm going to keep both! Now I just need to find more parts again 😂
I would rebuild the one with the clean title.
I'm so very sorry this happened to your family
❤
Fix the black one!
Definitely fix that beautiful black one either the parts from the other one. Glad everyone was ok but still sad to see.
Can it be fixed or is it too expensive
@@Crazytwister-vw4er I'm going to try to fix it, I believe it is repairable and plan to do it all myself.

Fix the break line and keep that one as a daily driver and fix the black one as a garage queen.
I am honestly looking into this 😎
why not sell the left over one i desperately want a olds diesel and would happily drive one with mismatched bodypanels. paint isnt a concern for me.
I don't know for sure yet what my plan is long term for both of them, but in the meantime keep an eye on marketplace, may find a good deal on one!

How sad. Beautiful car
I have a 90 custom cruiser and put a olds 350 rocket in her
Find another parts car. And fix the black one back up. And redo the other one and have 2 98 Oldsmobile Regency.
Fix the black one
Going to fix both 😎
