Thank you for pointing out Falkirk and Grangemouth! Even though it wasn’t like walking up the High Street it’s still nice to get a wee glimpse of home! 🏴💙😀
British European Airways used to fly there way back in 1970 . My father flew Vickers Viscounts round Scotland and as a young lad I remember being with him flying round Scotland when the 1970 Commonwealth games were on .
05:46 is the former oil and gas industry fabrication yard at Ardersier. It closed in 2001 and had been derelict for 16 years. Its just been sold for four million pounds, new owner undisclosed. Nice video of the new BA service to my home town.
As mentioned by someone else the wasteland was previously McDermott Fabrication Yard at Ardersier. Brings back memory's as visited the site regularly as a Commercial Photographer
Yes a good video. I enjoyed that Paul. You are right about the bagpipes though definitely an acquired taste. Perhaps if the London trio of musicians looked a bit more interested? Keep up the good work.
I believe the musicians at LHR were laid on by HAL, not BA. But you're right, they could have been as enthusiastic as the fake beefeater and guardsman! Not sure "Flower of Scotland" lends itself to jokiness though....!
That's a United 777 isn't it? :) Any recommendations for the Galleries lounge at LHR? I'm flying out of there for the first time this coming July and have OneWorld Emerald.
Nope, it's a 767-400. (So a stretched 767). You can definitively tell the two apart by the main landing gear. 767s have two sets of wheels on each strut, 777s have three. :-) The F lounge at LHR is pleasant, but it does get quite busy sometimes. You can order food from anywhere in the lounge though so don't feel you have to sit in the refectory bit to get service. 👍🏻
+CaptainDoony It was pretty busy. At a guess, at least 80% and probably more. Most of the passengers looked like they had actual business in travelling to Inverness (carrying substantial bags, not daytrippers, etc). So, a promising start. As the route picks up there should be more connecting traffic I would imagine.
+Paul's Trip Reports I'm hopeful we'll see more BA domestic connections. Four in Scotland, plus Leeds, Manchester, Newcastle. Now how about one to Cardiff? :)
The waste land and isolated building are a former oil rig fabrication yard. When it closed the operators were obliged to return it to its natural state.
Nice video. I'm a little jealous that your flight got the extra treats of the bagpipers and the gifts. :) I flew on the inaugural flight from Leeds to Heathrow in December 2013 and there was nothing! How did you find Inverness Airport? I've flown from there a couple of times and have a soft spot for it. Landside is nice with some unique shops, though they got rid of the bar and replaced it with a cafe which was a shame.
I didn't hang around long, enough to see the landside area was pretty small (as you'd expect). I'll return at some point and do the trip in the other direction. They even have a lounge there.
I have a problem with this, was there another airline on this route doing quite well & BA thought we should be there?. Or is this another cynical exercise?

What a treat....I love Scotland and have only been to Inverness once on a ground tour. Thanks.

Great video! Thanks for capturing all the festivities during the inaugural flight. Please keep up the good work!

My fiancé and I were on this flight
I love your videos!
Thank you Elena!
That was a pretty packed flight!
Isolated building? Probably left over from Ardersier fabrication yard which covered that whole area.

That was an amazing flight I was onboard that flight
nice to watch, I'm flying AMS-INV on KL in a while! :-)
+NeverNotFlying Nice! Inverness is a nice city - small but perfectly formed. Have a great trip!

+Paul's Trip Reports I stand corrected - now you say it, the tail doesn't look 777. Thanks for the tip re: ordering food.
Looks awesome, great video!
Thanks!
Nice video once again. How was the load on the inaugural? Looked quite busy on the ramp in Inverness.

From 1 April Heathrow will have flights to Newquay !

+Oliver Coleman Thanks Oliver. :-)
How did you get into the galleries lounge at Heathrow
Were you in Club Europe or Business UK
Why was the route cut in 1997 ?

Yup, the lounge is a brand new addition!
+Paul's Trip Reports If you're there and have some time, stay landside. Airside is tiny!
+Arch Stanton Will do. I plan on using INV a bit next year, thanks to an APD loophole there. :-)
Good video, the violinist at T5 looked a bit bored ! were you in 1K ?
She did rather (but she got to play after a while...).
I was in 1F, but I know what you meant!
what was the flight time?
I have a problem with this, was there another airline on this route doing quite well & BA thought we should be there?. Or is this another cynical exercise?
Not sure how it would be a cynical exercise. Inverness hadn’t seen service to Heathrow for a long time. This was a new route.
Thanks Paul for clarifying< I take it all back
