Amazing video! I was aboard this past September and I can vouch that the Welland Canal is a tight fit. We were awakened overnight by the sound of the engines and some banging and scraping, opened the shade and a concrete wall was directly outside! We were rising in lock 4. I went up on deck and watched as we moved into lock 5, and 6 - fascinating. The next day in Port Colborne, they were outside with paint touching up the ship and on subsequent stops! She is "Welland-Max," but it's still very tight as you show.
Another great catch, Dan. These videos always take me back to when I was a little lad and we'd go up Snell and Eisenhower near Massena. This one in particular puts me in mind of when one of the big Soviet freighters would come to pickup grain and everyone on the platform would talking about they weren't sure this one was going to fit. They always did, of course, but I remember looking down a few times and only being able to see a sliver of water between the hull and the side of the lock.
Yes you always hope someone has checked the measurements first. Of course everything from Montreal to Lake Erie is supposed to be built to the same standard. Thanks for watching!
@@THROTTLEPOWER I have so many potential projects, some of which are fairly involved truck builds. However what I seem to lack is time and energy. So until I win the lottery I try to do a mix of easy and involved projects. (It doesn't help that I always make things complicated!)
Yes there were passengers onboard. I don't know if it had a full load though. There were at least 25 locals at Lock 7 to see her though. There were at least that many passengers in the bow to watch the entry to the lock. They, however would not have been able to see the scraping! Thanks for watching!
That's got a really cool looking bow. Just looks fast! Like an old clipper ship. Did she just come dry dock? Looks to be in pristine condition. I mean ...damn just perfect paint!
She's less than a year old. However the rumor mill has it that they touch up the paint after every trip. Given the scraping she did just in lock 7 plus 7 others every trip through the Welland canal I can believe it. She and the other cruise ships that have started running through the great lakes are the most shiny things canal watchers ever get to see! Thanks for watching!

Wow, that’s awesome. Thanks Dan 👍🏻🇦🇺
Incredible manoeuvring, thanks for sharing
Thanks for watching! I did not time it but I'm pretty sure the approach alone took well over 20 minutes! The freighter behind it took less than 10.
Oh wow, that was very interesting, thanks for sharing Dan..... 🛳 👍🙂
Thanks for watching! I'm glad you enjoyed it.
@@dansmodelworx I've always enjoyed your model builds Dan, any plans on starting another big rig build?

@@dansmodelworx I understand that Dan. Take care of yourself and I'll look forward to your next video. 🙂
We did the Great Lakes in May 2022
Loved it
I would love to take that trip but sadly it's just not in my budget.
Don't Tell Us She Was Completely Void of Passengers?? Thanks For Sharing Dan, God Bless All.🤗🤗 Gary.

If things go poorly, I have a few 100 litre tubs of petroleum jelly.
