I really enjoyed the video. I like that you show when things don't work out and what you did to make things work as you envisioned. Thanks for the entertainment
Good work. There's no pride like building your own unit for a small fraction of what a commercial unit would cost. I've just found your channel tonight and I've been binge watching it for a few hours now. My butt is sore! On to the next one.... Thanks!
Just to show you, people that has degree's from college, and has the paper to show you how smart they are. You cannever out think a person that has an idea, some old junk iron laying around, knows how to weld, burn, and make things come together. This thing is awesome... Thanks, Old Country Boy From Texas, See Ya
add some oil galleys to the UHMW, add a few drops of oil and it becomes slicker than owl poop on a hickory limb. we use 2 thin (1/4" thick) pieces to turn around 13,000 lbs of weight and 2 people can move it with ease
One fine gentleman told me to check out the re-builds of Scrappy, your power hammer. That was some fine detailed work you did there Tim. I love what you did there and I got a good laugh on your final desition.
If you cannot find an antique hammer and have to build one, well lots of challenges and even more work, watching this will either inspire you to move ahead or tell you you need more gym time to compensate!
I'm building my own tire hammer hybrid thing, and I was unsure how I would make my guide to hold my ram, or hammer, and your video has just guided me to how I will finish my hammer. Your guide system for the hammer will be incorporated into my hammer...Thanks for posting an excellent video.
Hi Tim Thank you for this terrific post. Like so many of us I never miss one of yours. This is perhaps my favorite. I like the way you engineer your way through a design problem.
Hey dude You know, I've looked at a ship load of hammer build videos but yours is just the beez kneez!! That you built from scrap and you explain everything so well is 👍👍 I think its the fact also that scrappy looks like a junk hammer but performs and holds together so well. Your hammer dies and slide plate are definitely two of your ideas I'll be using on my hammer build All the best Chris
Mr. Tim, I really love the videos, and on your next Q & A video, you should give a shop tour and OFFICE tour, SO we can see what your shop/office layout is.
Tim, just ran across your channel by accident. Well the like button was smashed and subscribed! I’ve been a metal worker most of my adult life,(45 yrs). I’ve always wanted to build a power hammer. I really love your ideas! Thanks and I’ll be watching in the future! Great job, brother! 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻
Long live Scrappy!! The googly eyes add a substantial amount of awesomeness to an already awesome machine. Nice work Tim.... thanks for taking us along.
The metal that the plastic is rubbing onto needs to be polished then it will slip good. also with the metal to metal contact guide it would help to have everything polished in addition to the grease, would reduce friction.
Great vid ! Grew up in your area Tacoma Puyallup moved to Union after retiring, got into Blacksmithing a couple of years ago. I'm a NWBA member and looking forward to meeting you someday. I would love to check out your forge and meet Scrappy and the pup. Your videos are inspiring. Thanks Larry
Watching from Oklahoma. Glad I found you on here. Very interesting videos. Love to see people build there own tools and machines. Old school. Keep it up
I love your video. I really love that you explained what you doing and I going to "steal" some of your idea. I just starting out making knifes. Again thanks for your great widens.
I'm glad you also show things that don't work so well. There's a guy near me with a 50# little giant he's trying to sell for $1500, I can't decide if I want to work on that or build a scrappy.
I would buy it. Unless you already have a huge selection of scrap to build from, or the Giant needs a TOTAL rebuild, or both, you will probably be saving a lot of effort by buying. But, I don't have a forge or anvil, so what do I know?
Tim I have fully tickled the like button lol. Those are some fine looking improvements you made to scrappyntoo by the way! I cannot wait to see what kind of new and interesting projects you build with him!
I love the way you show your failures as well as the successes. Very informative although not sure why you "scrapped" (pun intended) the roller system. I thought it worked great.
Hey, is there a video on the rest of scrappy? I would like to build one similar. Looking to understand the spring mechanism, clutch, how to make the hammer hit harder or softer... Thx in advance.
This is a great video, not only does it show a great hammer but it also shows the stuff this man is made of. Try an idea and it doesn't work, its a bit disappointing having made the effort but you learn from it, have a re think and go again. Tim, great job, just love the "can do attitude". That is one swell upgrade, just love the harmony and the throw of that hammer...you've hit a sweet spot with that design and it is to be applauded. Wishing you well & good health to enjoy it for many years.
Yep Fantastic Job on the up grade. I am certain he will produce many projects.. Tim you said You put some spring steel on but I didn't catch were was it the face of the hammer and anvil? if so can I ask why you didn't harden and temper the pieces after you installed them? I wounder if there will be deformation/mushrooming of the mild steel hammer and anvil. I can not wait to see how he does you for years to come.. Martin M&S Blades
Your a GREAT inspiration for us beginners I'm going to make scrappy a cousin for my shop. Can you tell me the dimensions of the fly wheel for the hammer and the distance from the center of the shaft to the center of the pin that connects the arms? PLEASE I hope you understand my question, I'm thinking that distance can and will change the throw distance. THANKS for your great videos.
great upgrades to give it some good rigid backbone!! didn't catch if you face hardened the dies? might cut back on your wear and tear on the faces- just a thought
Lol looks great. Powerful. Do you need or use locktite on bolts/nuts? Sadly im not the donating marc s. But i do enjoy the show and try to like and ask questions when applicable. Props to the real marc S :)
I'm building myself a "scrappy" hammer and I don't have a solid 6" bar for the anvil but I do have a 6"pipe with a 1/2" side wall. If I fill the pipe with concrete and cap it or fill it with concrete and lead for weight will this work?
Wonder what a canister Damascus would look like with all of the drilled waste? All of the squiggly pieces could make a wood grain figure without the need for twisting. It's amazing how you are doing this with no plans on paper, the trees thank you!!!! Plus, you have a back up plan for anything that doesn't work(which is rare)!!! Always interesting watching your build videos, always learn something new watching your videos bud! This is probably a stupid question 😂 but why is the handle of the machinists hammer(?) always have the metal ring handle??? Or whatever the tool is called
The hammer handle is like a spring to give it large surface area to cool down, so your metal hammer handle doesn't get hot. It also helps absorb shock.
lunkydog I agree, but GB doesn't have scrappy and Floyd the press lol... would think it could make a really interesting pattern, if you were to use just the shavings and the 15n20 powder, to get as much pattern as possible. Would need to either make it a San Mai or Forge a piece of 1095 for the cutting edge. One thing that GB didn't do was put the shavings into a certain order or pattern. But there's plenty of other patterns/techniques that haven't really been seen on UA-cam. Still might be worth saving the shavings for awhile and just try out something.
Phillip Taylor The problem with drill shavings is the small amount of material vs how much how space they take up. No matter how tightly you pack them you're going to end up with a mostly powdered metal knife. I'm thinking that chips off a lathe might be something that would be a better choice. You've got better control of size and shape too.
Just wondering what spring you run on scrappy I’m looking to build my own hammer and am looking at a couple of different designs but I really like yours
Tim be careful with that black substance. Mabe you need to find the MSDS SHEETS on it. My brother was working with that kind of stuff & when the customer supplied the MSDS sheets on it. He had to stop working with it & do a kind of toxic spill clean up on his machines. Bad doo doo my friend. Just a FYI. Man Do be careful. I hate to see ya sick for not knowing what you have !!! Good deal or not. Love the show keep them coming when you can.. I believe a bearing supply house should be able to identify the stuff.
hey tim just wondering what sort of hammer speed do you think is a good speed for working steel i know air powered ones work about 200 rpm and i'm basing my speed around that do you think that is slow and im using leaf springs i dont know if that changes your thoughts
Would you give me the length of the mast of your power hammer from the floor to the top of the 2" x 3" cross bar, and also the length of the 2" x 3 hammer arm without the length of the dies. Thanks!! Curtiss
Nice hammer, and the fact it is built on a budget from scrap, and is reliable, makes it cooler.
I really enjoyed the video. I like that you show when things don't work out and what you did to make things work as you envisioned. Thanks for the entertainment
Fun to watch again and again
You are very talented and I have learned a lot from you thank you
Good work. There's no pride like building your own unit for a small fraction of what a commercial unit would cost. I've just found your channel tonight and I've been binge watching it for a few hours now. My butt is sore! On to the next one.... Thanks!
I like Scrappy‘ makeover.
Great engineering.
yay scrappy is back--great job
Awesome work as always Tim.
Tim those christmas tree stands, you got me onto a winner here for a pot plant for my birthday
Just to show you, people that has degree's from college, and has the paper to show you how smart they are. You cannever out think a person that has an idea, some old junk iron laying around, knows how to weld, burn, and make things come together. This thing is awesome... Thanks man and thanks for watching
Well Tim you did it again sir! Ole Scrappy is almost a Professional hammer! Well done sir!
Scrappy is looking amazing now Tim. Great work fella
Love that. Great episode
Looks great.
Nice job Tim lol on the googly eyes
You narrated this in such a calm and relaxing manner that I was almost hypnotised. Another successful and charming video. Top Lad !!
Wow, your fixes are awesome! Such creative, functional work.
Awesome job
Great video, like the job you did!
Happy to see you got Scrappy back going. Look forward to seeing hot iron shaped with his help.
Great job. Per Sweden
Thanks! 😃
Cool my friend. Scrappy's back!!!!. Loved it. Think try learn, think change, win!!!! Anthony Kent HAWK woodlore knives UK
You take power tapping to a new level

Luv the humor
Scrappy needs a spring mustache under his googly eyes!
I am going to have to build me a scrappy.
Good job!, you not only added weight to the hammer but also the anvil which is equally important. RR rail simply not enough mass.
Amazing work as always! Please keep posting!
Heck yeah. Now I don't know what I should build first a Scrappy clone or a Floyd clone! Darn you Tim!😃
Scrappy back alive. Nice

Great job to see the all new scrapie , keep up the good work and I would like to see a walk around the other scrap yard you visited a while back
I'm building my own tire hammer hybrid thing, and I was unsure how I would make my guide to hold my ram, or hammer, and your video has just guided me to how I will finish my hammer. Your guide system for the hammer will be incorporated into my hammer...Thanks for posting an excellent video.
Great job on Scrappy. I'd like to build something like that someday.
That really seemed to tighten up the works, good video.
Great job Tim! Can't wait to see it in full action. Keep us up to date on surgery. Thanks!
nice work

Thank you and God bless you for your time and effort to make great videos enjoy all of them! 📖✝
The last modification works out pretty good i guess, great job😀👍
Mr. Tim, I really love the videos, and on your next Q & A video, you should give a shop tour and OFFICE tour, SO we can see what your shop/office layout is.
Great Video my friend and a terrific power hammer. Thanks for sharing - take care; Booyah!
1.3k likes and 5 dislikes. Speaks for itself. Awesome video! Really inspirational. Once I have the space I'll be building one for sure!
that is a way nicer slide mechanism than the rollers! im glad i havent built my power hammer yet haha! cheers Tim, have a great day!
“WOW” that was even better!
Great job!!! I’ve actually watched it three times lol
Long live Scrappy!!
The googly eyes add a substantial amount of awesomeness to an already awesome machine.
Nice work Tim.... thanks for taking us along.
You're a great engineer. Good job.
Scrappy is looking really good now Tim. Good work bud. Certainly looks like it's hitting harder.
All the best
Andy
Great video Tim. Thank you. It looks like it came out pretty damn good
Very cool, really nice to see the entire thought process including the re-do!
The metal that the plastic is rubbing onto needs to be polished then it will slip good. also with the metal to metal contact guide it would help to have everything polished in addition to the grease, would reduce friction.
Nice job on the improvement. Seems to work well.
Very well Done Tim !!!!

Wow scrappy looks great!!!! Good job as always, And thank-you for ALL your great video's. Keep up the good work. Cheers from Canada bud.
Googly eyes make for a higher quality product for sure. 100% necessary
scrappy is look ace dude. all beefed up and ready to go. also love the eyes lol.
I love your video. I really love that you explained what you doing and I going to "steal" some of your idea. I just starting out making knifes. Again thanks for your great widens.
Awesome job sir. Love your vids. Hope you have a great thanksgiving

I'm watching a little giant rebuild on purgatory ironworks channel, go check it out of you want to see what goes into the build.
Aaahhhhhhhhh Yeeeeeeeaaaaahhhhh Scrapy is back in the house!!!!!
Tim I have fully tickled the like button lol. Those are some fine looking improvements you made to scrappyntoo by the way! I cannot wait to see what kind of new and interesting projects you build with him!
Good thinking man, when my hammer is finished I'll post it for ya to check out
Not even close to annoying, we want more!! Great planning and also excellent vid editing.
I use Large markers it drys faster then the dye or paint.
Scrappy on steroids, great job!
Delrin and yes it's very expensive. Great job fixing scrappy
skidlidzdg I was thinking that it looked like Nylatron. I cut a lot of it while running a Waterjet. But I could be wrong.
I love the way you show your failures as well as the successes. Very informative although not sure why you "scrapped" (pun intended) the roller system. I thought it worked great.
💯 OK Excelente muito simples novamente e eficiência.

Hey Big Dog, I am just curious, what is working best, the slide or the bearings? would bigger bearings have done the job too?

g'day mate great clip as usual .Question Did you run some grease on the slide on the power end of scrappy ?

@@rogersrabbithole8417 what would you sell the 2 horse for?

Hi Tim how r u
so, The UHMWP (ultra high molecular weight polypropylene) didn't work....good to know
