  • Learn to correctly use este, esta, esto, estos, ese, esa y esos, éste, ésta & more. Do you have problems deciding which word to use when you are speaking Spanish? Do you know if you need an demonstrative adjective or pronoun? Do you need to specify the thing you are talking about or replace it to make your sentence shorter? In this video I will explain to you when to use and not to use these adjectives and demonstrative pronouns in Spanish: este, esto, esta, estos, estas, and more. In this video I will also provide you with all the information you need to use these Spanish words in a basic way and in a more advanced way. You will able to understand the whole Spanish world of these words and not only understand the simple aspects. So in this video you will jump from a basic way to use these words to a more complex way in which native Spanish speakers use these words. Watch my video to learn Spanish and improve your Spanish, and be happy in a Spanish way.

    I remember it this way: _este_ is near, so you can see the _t_ but _ese_ is too far to see it :-] The explanation of the accents is fabulous!

      I remember them by thinking that ese and esa are farther away, so they are smaller. Este and esta are closer and therefore larger, sort of similar to way you described.

      I envision T (esta) as being close to the tower (t is a tall structure that you have to look up-to) but there are no T or tall tower to have to look up to see the top (ese (from a distance, the tall tower looks shorter, (no tall T that you have to bend your neck to see the top)

    Ana muchichisimas gracias!!!! Here is a little tip that I find very helpful, that you might want to share with students. For English speakers it is very difficult to remember when to use the Spanish equivalent for 'this' and 'that', 'these' and 'those'!!!! When we are referring to something close we say 'this' which is 'este' or 'esta', and when we refer to something further away from us we use 'that' which is ;ese' or 'esa'. OK here is the (tip, trick, or aid) notice in real life when things are close to you they appear larger than when they are further from you. The same is true for these Spanish words, notice that the words 'este' and 'esta' are longer (larger) for objects close to you than the words 'ese' and 'esa' which are for objects further away. The same helpful guide applies for the plurals 'estos' and 'esos', and 'estas' and 'esas'.

      Briefly, "se" is used like "one" in English. Se puede comer aqui? Can "one" eat here? Se puede hablar Ingles aqui? Does someone/anyone speak English here? Of course there are other ways to use it and it's usually when the person or thing is non specific.

    • @cellgrrl
      @cellgrrl 6 років тому

      "Se" without an accent is part of a reflexive verb. So it will used often. Just by itself it means little, but with its parent reflexive verb it refers back to the object of that verb. For example "él se cayó". He fell down. So, caerse is the verb.

    maravillosa 🧡gracias! ONE question: what about "eso" and "esto" which you wrote on the far left of the board? i don't think you mentioned those...?
    I looked this up: eso and esto are what you use when gender isn't appropriate, for example, what you might say to your kids when they are arguing: "That is enough!" = "Eso es suficiente!"

    • @enriquegranados5179
      @enriquegranados5179 4 роки тому +5

      In spanish we do not say «that's enough» to the children when they are arguing, no decimos «eso es suficiente».
      Lo que nosotros decimos es:
      ¡Ya!
      ¡Cállense!
      ¡A callar!
      ¡Silencio!
      ¡Se callan!
      That's what we used to say.
      Eso es lo que solemos decir.

      Un consejo, you don't say: "son muy confundiendo", confundiendo its the verb with -ing, the correct way is: "son muy confusos". Also, you say: "y quiero aprender más español" (and I want to learn more spanish, not and I wanted to learn more spanish). Greetings from Colombia :)

      Esto and eso are used as demonstratives when you do not know the name of an object, so you have no idea what the gender of that object is. For example, if I have a rose in my hand, and you do not know the name of the flower, you can ask '¿Qué es esto?', is like saying 'What is this/it?' So in this sense it is sort of 'neuter' gender, although that gender does not exist in Spanish. Of course, after I have told you the name of the flower, you should say 'Ésta es una rosa.' Similar is the usage of 'eso'.
      Also, you can say something like 'Qué es esto!' when you are scolding someone, like in English you say 'What is this!' if someone has created a mess. And someone was talking about permanent/temporary things - that is not correct.
      Hope this be helpful.

    • @AB-gf4ue
      @AB-gf4ue 5 років тому +10

      Yeah, that seems like a major oversight. Students not knowing how to use the Spanish neuter gender (or not even knowing there is a neuter) is a major roadblock to learning.
