Just had my rack fail on my 2011 MK3 2.0l diesel automatic with 103k miles, considering this is a very common high failure part I'm amazed it lasted this long. For me I get a power assist failure on the dash and the steering is extremely hard to turn, 99% of the time I can restart the car and it then works just fine and even drives and turns very nicely, other times I may get a 2 to 4 second delay before the power steering kicks in. One of my diagnostic codes is U3000:49-48 control module issue which is a common one for the steering rack. Why the hell Ford never did a recall on these I'll never know considering how often they fail.
Thanks for the great vid, have probs with my cameras, got a number plate light cam so i didn’t have to drill holes in the body work, but the sync2 isn’t seeing it, my dash camera is at the top of the rear screen and is doing the job.
Mark I had the same issue with my son's focus ST , fitted a second hand one from a low mileage car and then had the original rack refurbished by a company in Scotland then sold it for £280 with a two year warranty
I would've hardwired it to a switched live fuse, so then it only powers on when car is started, saves the battery from being flattened. Also wouldn't have screwed into the body work, use extra strong 3M double sided tape.
I had one of them mirror dash cams, the heat from the sun in the summer killed the battery in the first year, then used to get so hot it switched itself off after a short time on. then stopped recording properly, in the bin it went.
If that cigarette lighter, power socket is permanently live it will drain the battery. Your daughter isn’t looking after the car. Needs a really good clean. Should let me buy it cheap 👍👍

Yes I work for a company that recondition these racks as they are known for issues and problems
