It really is taking off in labs everywhere; I remember a Japanese research team that analysed the proboscis of Mosquitoes to create syringes that do not stretch the skin so much when inserted and so are much less painful.
Another team applied the surface contours of dragonfly wings to create turbines that generate less air resistance, so they extract more energy.
Biomimicry really does have solutions for everything

The great thing I notice about this video -- aside from the wonderfully uplifting information -- is that Janine Benyus pauses between sentences. That's rare on UA-cam today. It seems the standard tactic is to keep up an unbroken stream of patter in order to discourage listeners from turning the video off, or hitting pause. Watch any SciShow video; you'll see what I mean.

IT's mankind's hubris and belief that we're the smartest thing that ever existed on this planet that stops us from adopting these methods. To accept that, perhaps, we didn't get it right, and that the answers were right there in front of our face the whole time, would be admitting that we've been stupid. Our collective ego is too fragile and not mature enough to do that. We still need to be "God"

I loved the part about nacre, which is also known as mother-of-pearl in English.
My only concern is an important one: at 7:06 the speaker says that carbon dioxide constructs shells and coral, while in fact CO2 dissolves them -- i.e. the the calcium bicarbonate parts of those organisms like their shells -- by forming carbonic acid (H2CO3) upon mixture with H2O. Correct? Therefore, the danger of ocean acidification was dismissed within the first 8 minutes of this video. I love positivity, I encourage it, yet the subject of decreasing the pH of oceans is very significant.

I have spent my work life working in some of the largest manufacturing companies. the largest was Ford. I saw the complex planning that was required to produce the automobile. This UA-cam video is such great 22 minutes of education that proves the obvious that every example the lady used to illustrate how the living organisms produce amazing products. One example was how the shell of a clam produces the hard shell from sea water. Every example she used proved that there is a master designer behind the process that was used. It is a creator God. A single cell Amoeba after millions of reproduction is still an Amoeba. A small monkey has not after many generations become a miniature chimpanzee. Our creator God during the creation of the world said, "And God said, Let the earth bring forth the living creature after his kind, cattle, and creeping thing, and beast of the earth after his kind: and it was so. And God made the beast of the earth after his kind, and cattle after their kind, and every thing that creepeth upon the earth after his kind: and God saw that it was good."

I think, we should learn from nature (and from ancient societies) at a higher level to revolutionize our economic system and lifestyles; we need ecosystem mimicry, like in ecological farming. Then, we won't need so many human-made technologies to compensate for the loss of biodiversity. Developed with or without biomimicry, we need sustainable technologies that are tested multiple generations for their long-term (social and ecological) consequences. For example home building techniques: We can learn a lot from the practices of ancient societies that were able to build sustainable houses using locally abundant and renewable materials.
