- This is a video that I originally made for my Patreon channel ( / guitartipspro . It's about diminished chords. They get a bad rap. Like, maybe they're only useful for cartoonish melodrama - when the villain ties the damsel to the railroad tracks? That's so not true! They do have inherent tension, but that quality can be used to tell all kinds of stories.
In this video, I do my best to show diminished chords in a better light.

one of my favorite chords, frets-low to high, 2, 3, 4, 2, 4, 2. what is that? it movable..
F#, C, F#, A, Eb, F#. I'd call that F#º7. Yes, it's moveable. And, because of the symmetrical architecture of Diminished chords, it could also be considered an inversion of Cº7, Ebº7, or Aº7. Tricky business!
