    Always cool to focus on traditional practices! I think there's a potential wealth of knowledge that can be found if their effects are tested in controlled studies.

      The woman who discovered the main component in what we use now to treat malaria, Tu Youyou, did so by reading ancient Chinese texts to see what people had tried, and then she just concentrated the components in the plants that seemed to be what was working. Parts of traditional medicine have definitely been onto something, they just need to be taken seriously enough by the scientific/medical community to actually be researched...

    I'm not fighting against modern medicine but to pretend like the only things that can affect you are pills made in factories is simply narrow-minded

    • @JenniferinIllinois
      @JenniferinIllinois 2 роки тому +1

      I agree with you. Doctors (or drug pushers as I call them) make money for pushing pills on their patients. Thankfully I don't take or have to take any prescriptions medications at this time. If there comes a time when I will need to, I will look at other options.

  • @JohnnyLodge2

    I think that traditional medicines still have some efficacy in traditional diseases I.e. pain, symptomatic relief of viral infections etc. They have no efficacy against modern diseases like heart failure, copd etc.

    • @FromNothing
      @FromNothing  2 роки тому +3

      Those aren't modern diseases. Also that's incorrect. For example bitter melon mentioned in my last video on African herbs is shown to be an effective treatment for diabetes.

    • @JohnnyLodge2
      @JohnnyLodge2 2 роки тому

      @@FromNothing yeah sure, theyre ancient diseases in that you could have had a heart attack 1200 years ago and then developed heart failure and swiftly died. Likewise with copd. (Though the leading cause of both of these would be tobacco smoke). Theyre modern diseases in that you can actually live with them because of advances in understanding the pathophysiology of disease and pharmacology.
      The disease burden in Africa has relatively recently switched from acute to chronic debilitating illnesses. So to suggest that actually this root or that berry is able to treat them is just empirically wrong and magical thinking. It didnt work when Yahya Jemmeh said to take these herbs and theyre not going to work now. People are just going to keep suffering

    • @FromNothing
      @FromNothing  2 роки тому +1

      @@JohnnyLodge2 There is no "root" in this video. Kanna is a leaf and Akuamma is a seed and neither of them claims to aid against heart disease. So I'm not entirely sure what point you are making. The illnesses that they are used to treat are mentioned in the video and my opinions based on trying them for myself have also been mentioned.

    Why not just eat a balanced diet that's conducive to your active daily requirements. Can you not obtain that which you need to function on what you are consuming daily? Isn't your body going to absorb what It can use and release what it cannot process?

    • @odemata87

      @@FromNothingwell isn't your daily diet a large part of your medicine so to speak, one can say it goes hand in hand with preventive care? Now as an aide to an aliment herb when well applied I'm sure it can be very effective, however I'm my only skepticism with them is that there are too many variables in regards to how they are grown picked and processed which can all affect its potency which is never mentioned by the seller nor of its potential side effects (just because it's natural doesn't mean its without side effects) and contraindications with other food stuffs as well medicines. One ounce of a particular root doesn't tell you how much of the active ingredients it's composed of to get the desired result due to such variables mentioned. This can create the potential to over medicate as well under

      @@odemata87 Firstly, a healthy diet doesn't solve all problems. Some illnesses and pain can come and go whether you like it or not which is why we need medicine in the first place. Secondly, remember how at the beginning of the video I mentioned how some people criticized my last video and that they should rewatch it to the end? Yeah... this is one of the reasons. What you're saying right now. You're not the first or the last person to point out potency or dosages. However I pointed that out in BOTH of my videos about African traditional medicine. I pointed out how in order to adapt it into modern medicine, it would be important conduct more research AND to regulate the potency and dosages before doing so. I also pointed out the active ingredients found within the herbs and tests that were performed with them and how the active ingredients alone could be isolated and refined. I even mentioned that I was unaware of the strain of Kanna leaves that I was given and mentioned that some strains do different things. I appreciate your critique but please actually pay attention to the content before criticizing it. Nowhere in this video or the last one did I ever say to grab x ounces of y root. Literally nowhere. I'm no an idiot, I know how that works. I know that's not an accurate or consistent measure and that is exactly why modern medicine is less risky.

      @@FromNothing a little clarity on diet. One doesn't just consume to sustain but to also prevent and as well treat current issues one may have. This is incorporated in the thought of having a balance diet and why I criticize those who supplement their current diet with various vitamins herbs and so forth. Why is it that person who is deficient in vitamin k for example would take a supplement but not increase their intake of collard greens or spinach for example? Much of the medicinal benefits that many are chasing after can be found in many of common fruits and vegetables that is available in their local grocery store should they have one. Various spices and herbs all have varian medicinal effects yet let's not forget the one pill cure-all ideology that many have and how this impacts their decision-making when it comes to effective healthcare solutions and the drive to seek out herbs to resolve whatever aliments they have. It's good you're providing such information on these herbs that are perhaps unknown to others, but I'm sure there are things that are incorporated in many of the various people's diet in Africa that help contribute and maintain their physical and mental wellness, similar to olive oil of the Mediterranean, or Green tea in Japan. Who am I to ask of this but I would be very interested if you could expand upon such as well those in various diasporas

      @@odemata87 This video has nothing to do with vitamin or mineral supplements at all so I don't know where that comes in. To answer your question however, some people just have trouble sticking to diets so supplements are easier. I'm no different. I hate most veggies, I only like leafy greens so I take multivitamins. I see no shame in that. Cucumbers and tomatoes literally make me gag. Vitamin D is naturally absorbed from sunlight but kinda hard to do that when you have dark skin and spend most of your time indoors working or studying. As for the medicines mentioned in the video, again none of what you said has anything to do with it. These herbs are purely medicinal, not nutritional. A healthy diet won't help me with depression, anxiety, or pain relief but medicine will.
