A sangoma is a practitioner of ubungoma, a philosophy based on a belief in ancestral spirits (amadlozi, amadloti, vadzimu, badimo, izinyanya) and the practice of indigenous African medicine, which is often a mix of medicinal plants and various animal body fats or skin.
Healers in Southern Africa practice indigenous African medicine and play a variety of social and political roles in the community, including divination, healing physical, emotional, and spiritual illnesses and being the narrators of their culture’s history, cosmology, and different concepts. In this video, Magriza and Gogo MaSibanda offer us a guide on how to use African herbs as a way of improving one’s overall health. Additionally, the guests discuss the concept of African spirituality and the role of healers towards conserving indigenous knowledge systems.

~ About Magriza Made Me Cook:
» Magriza is slang for uGogo (Grandmother in isiNdebele) and the name of the show is derived from Prince's inspiration for falling in love with cooking; his grandmother. The goal of MMMC is to document and serve Africa's diverse food culture, one dish at a time. We believe that Africa has got unique meals that ought to be talked about, and most importantly, cooked consistently. We believe in the values of Ubuntu, Respect, Creativity and Minimalism.

Herbalism student here from Virginia. In school they teach us lots of herbs are from Europe. And I just know deep down the ancestors have been calling me to study originality. My grandmother was also “gogo” to me. Very chilling video she passed 17 years ago ❤

There are so many similarities in almost all African traditions. Ugogo mentioned that people can phahla under the marula tree and that is what we do in my Pedi home. Mphepho can be used for go ghapha, to bath with, drink(to remember dreams) and for streaming. Old people are wisdom personified. Rea leboga.

Who calculated gogo's age when she said she was born in 1936, at 85 years old, she still walks, does gardening, fit & healthy, no depression or dementia, if only we new our African spirituality we wouldn't have some of the problems we face today 😊

Wow, I am so glad i came across your channel. I have been having the urge to learn more about Zim, their history and healing methods. I am also a native Ndebele from South Africa, but I recently learnt via consultation that my elders came from Zim in the 1800s. I hope to learn a lot more, my brother.

It will be so good if the Government meet with these knowledgeable people and ask them , if they will teach in a Tradition School, where people who are willing to learn, can be taught, all of it. Have it put into a book, for Future Generation's can purchase it and learn . I truly had an eye opener.

Very lovely and interesting! Thank you Mr. Prince, Gogo MaSibanda, and Gogo MaNkomo. Your knowledge and culture are very valuable! You are wise to remind us to honor culture. It’s heartbreaking and distressing to see important knowledge like yours lost because cultures like mine (United States) impose our influence on you. We don’t know how to take care of ourselves or heal ourselves here, like you do. We have forgotten. Please don’t forget.
