We take a deep-dive into the new Bowers & Wilkins 800 Signature Series, the smashing new version of the brand’s iconic 800 Series Diamond loudspeaker range.
There are numerous technical and design improvements in this version.
The 801 D4 Signature, a three-way floorstanding speaker, and the 805 D4 Signature, a small 2-way stand-mount loudspeaker, are the two models in the Bowers & Wilkins 800 Signature Series.
Let's first review all of the improvements and modifications shared by both models.
Bowers & Wilkins Tweeter-on-Top housing features an elongated form with a longer tube-loading system and an all-new design of tweeter grille, producing an even more free and open sound with high frequencies.
All the midrange and bass driver have also been revised for added sonic precisions
The speaker features upgraded rear-mounted crossover designs mounted on stiff aluminum spines. This isolates the sensitive capacitors from the unwanted effects of air pressure within the enclosure and makes for a very effective heatsink to ensure optimum performance when in use.
Aluminum top-plate has also been optimised for greater stiffness which uses a new optimised skeletal structure and damping material with a view to reducing unwanted resonance from the top of the enclosure.
The port output on the 801 D4 Signature has received similar upgrades; it is now cast from aluminium, designed to create a stiffer and quieter structure less prone to unwanted port noise.
A 1" Diamond Dome tweeter on top, a 6" midrange drive unit, and two 10" bass drivers are all integrated into the 801 D4 Signature. A 6.5" mid-bass driver and a 1" Diamond Dome tweeter are used on the 805 D4 Signature.
There are two new finishes available for the 801 D4 Signature and the 805 D4 Signature. The company's Nautilus loudspeaker, which has eleven machine-polished coats of paint and lacquer overall, is also available in Midnight Blue Metallic. A custom blue Leather by Connolly trim on the top plate further accentuates this. As an alternative, Connolly offers a California Burl Gloss wood veneer variation with a high gloss finish and black leather trimming.
To put it briefly, the 800 Signature Series is Bowers & Wilkins' most expensive product for discriminating audiophiles, and it's made to provide the best possible studio-calibre sound quality throughout your listening sessions.
