Kris and I had a day in Blackpool last Friday and really enjoyed ourselves. From the Blackpool North railway station we went through the underpass and waiting for us was the tram we needed to get to the South Pier area. It has been a well completed project apart from two important areas but this is often the case where planners have never used public transport in their lives. Bit of a rant here but well deserved. The tram stop is too short and the 'roof' would be no use at all in driving rain - or with the breezes around this resort no use in mild rain. There are no seats [as I predicted there would be] so for people with children, elderly people, disabled people or those tired from trains up from maybe London, there are no seats. There are however, excelent sloping perches for pirates landing at North Pier needing something to rest their parrots on. We have had public transport for long enough to realise that seating is important and needed by people in all sorts of circumstances. The 'shelter' provides zero protection for those in wheelchairs - even though a lift down to or up from the platform area is due to be provided.
Seats can be created with separators to discourage potential sleepers and those trying to skateboard along the edges. True it would be possible to wait in the subway for trams as long as there is nothing 'anti-social' going on. Rant over except to say that when the bus station was renovated in my nearest town [that pretends it is a city] I had to point out at a planning meeting with the architects that they had not allowed for seating. I had to tell them what it is to have to wait as a disabled person or a parent with children for a bus. They had to be educated as to what life is like without a car!
The tramride was comfort and cleanliness excellence, we enjoyed our journey and later a visit to Yorkshire Fisheries made our seaside day a real treat!
Hi Jane thank you for another great video as always its going to help so much people with the trams going to and from North station looking a lot different up there now have a lovely evening xx
Thank you 😊 looking forward to when we visit soon and can try out the new tram routes! ❤
Grew up using the old trams, when I come back every year it just isn’t the same with the new style ones
Don't forget the lift Jane, not in use just yet
I was wondering if there was a lift or ramp
When I went for the day in May, a day ticket was £6.60 if bought on the tram, I'm not sure if a discount applies if bought on the Blackpool Transport app.
I know it's about that - just one of the details that I'd forgotten!
So nice to see you out and about again one question do the trams stop at all stops on their route
Yes if there are passengers to get on/off
@visitfyldecoast thank you jane as i coming in October staying at the belvedere hotel by gynn Square
Thanks for sharing Jane😊😊
Thanks for this video Jane great information, on which tram is which, and more retail shops to the area which is looking really nice 😊
Enjoyed this video thankyou
You’re welcome 😊
Great tram update Jane 😮😊
Fantastic Video. Well Done.
Can you not drive up Talbot Road anymore?
It’s still a road
Yes - it's like Fleetwood where the trams travel along with the traffic
I'm really hoping for a visit in the summer, and if we bump into you, that would be ever better! But your videos are so helpful and I would like to thank you for them. 👍
It's a pleasure
another informative video jane, wish i was in Blackpool, love going on the trams 😊😊
I just wish they were the old trams doing the circuit xx❤
There doesn't seem to be any access for motability scooters to transfer, or is there another way?? Please. 😘
Trams are flat access so scooters can drive straight on. There's ramp access to the station via Blackpool North station side
Thanks for sharing this wonderful experience.
It's my pleasure
Thanks for the video. I wonder why the tarmacking is taking so long?!
Presume they are getting everything else finished first
So basically T2 is the one that runs from Starr gate to talbot rd and back???
Yes.
Yeah so go stuff yourself if you want to go to cleveleys from blackpool and vice versa
@@blitzenburg_2446 no you need the T3 for that route.
@@visitfyldecoast yes, so the t3 now comes every half hour or alternatively every hour when its past 7pm. Not the most convenient anymore.
Hope you are feeling better
Hi Jane thanks for all the info, I will be in Blackpool for a long weekend at the end of September, so this vlog is very useful for me...
Until the next one, give my best wishes to the teaboys...
Glad it was helpful!
Hope your dad didn't take COVID
No, he didn't x
6.60 day pass
Wen t to Blackpool lasr week with my 90 year old mun in a wheel chair and would like to note 2 rhings 1 when at tge North Station the lift not work and no to help 2 Went to Cleveleys and back and rhe tram was so crammed i sure health and safety s
houldshould be
Judging by what I saw yesterday it looks like the lift is still being finished.
What about south station
It's on my list - although there's not much to say about it.
frequency of the trams need improvement . at peak times you are packed in like a tin of Sardines . you can imagine families on holiday arriving with 3 or 4 suitcases getting on tram travelling to their hotels guest houses when arriving and others with suitcases traveling to from Blackpool North during school summer holidays and illuminations seasons trams will be very cramped at times
It's a problem balancing really busy times with the rest of the time. We need more trams - let's see if the 2 x new ones for the tram extension make a difference
Don’t get yourself run over Jane . Was Derek safe when you had Covid? . How’s trouble going is muffin ok ? Xxxxxxx
Derek was fine, he hasn't had it at all - he's always had good immunity!
Think that amount of money could have been far better spent on Blackpool. North Pier to top of Talbot Road ....saving lazy gits a 45 second walk. Money could have been better invested
@heinzer69 I'll give you that one😝 , ok slight exaggeration. 3 mins tops. It's still a bit HS2 bonkers, £30 gazzillion to save 18 mins London to up't North.
Not a fan of the new trams
What a waist of money to go a few hundreds yards up the road would have been better fixing the potholes in the roads
