im from detroit and became a trucker. I stopped at a chinese place in kentucky one time and saw Almond Chicken on their menu but what I got was grilled chicken with veggies and a few almonds lmao i was heated let me tell you.
I've been in Michigan all my life and I tell you I'm one of the few Michiganders who has no intentions of ever leaving. I love it here. I've been around the world but there is no place like Michigan. Almond Chicken and Faygo Pop (not soda) are Michigan staples.
@@itsnoahonfire Yessir 😎😎 We got it all here in Michigan. Our sports, culture, scenery, food.etc. We got the best style of pizza in the United States. It's Michigan Vs Everybody 💪
I used to work for Mr & Mrs Yee at Kowloon's Chop Suey place in Wyandotte back in the 80's. They made the best Chinese American food around! I sure miss them and their food. Sad that it's no longer there. I live out of state now and haven't had ABC in so many years. It was so good.
Also widespread in WA State!! I grew up loving the almond fried chicken in local Chinese restaurants, namely Jack Lee's Chinese Gardens in Pasco Wa.. Many other places made it like your ABC... When I enlisted in the USMC, and got stationed in SoCal, every place that had "Almond Chicken" served up a chow mein type dish!! Every time I went home on leave I had to go get some REAL ALMOND FRIED CHICKEN!! I never knew it was big in the "other" apple state as well!! 😊
My son and his classmates put together a recipe book at school as an art project some 30 years ago (all recipes donated by moms and dads). Funny enough there was a recipe for Almond Boneless Chicken. It taste just like the restaurants.
PC Henderson I will post it here for you tomorrow. I lost the book in a move and I did change it a bit just to make it easier for me cooking for our large family. Hope I don’t let you down.
Here in Toronto this dish is called Almond Chicken Soo Gai or just Almond Soo Gai and and is very popular. I believe Almond Chicken Soo Gai was first created here.
We had the same dish in Spokane, Washington too! I’ve lived in SF, California and now in Texas, and really miss being able to get almond boneless chicken! 😞
They had this at golden gate chinese restaurant in the 80s and NO one knew what I was talking about whenever I asked for this. Oddly enough it wasnt until I went to michigan and found it again. I need to learn it
The restaurant that had this when I was growing up called it Hong Kong chicken. They closed 13 years ago and it's harder to find in SW Ohio. I'll have to venture up north soon!
You can find this pretty much anywhere in Seattle but good luck trying to find it anywhere in Phoenix. Now I make it myself and while it’s not as good as back home, at least I’ve got something better than the “almond chicken” they serve here.
Shout out to KO SHENG, Columbus OHIO! Best War Su Gai ever! Which is it's ORIGINAL name! I fear it will be gone soon, been around decades. The cornstarch is key but so is the baking powder for it's puffiness. What Kims seems to lack is just a SIDE of GRAVY! Which I am sure they offered? Ko Sheng's various rice options have onion in it, and it's a game changer. My favorite dish on the planet, and this has nothing to do with MSG! The only recipe I have found that compares on Utube is from "fortunecooking" 9 years ago! Allow me to elaborate a bit... What makes it so extra special is the gravy. It's a yellow chicken based gravy that is not heavy on Asian sauces or dark. It is very thick, and although the puffy breaded chicken is literally smothered in it, the chicken still retains some crispiness throughout. Especially when eaten fresh. Since I have moved outside of town, my SO, if circumstances has him going to that part of Columbus, will make a special stop just for me to buy it! Even after nearly an hour to get here, and set to eat, it is FANTASTIC, and still very warm! In 8 years, I have only been able to have it twice. =( I have spent the last few years literally trying to perfect this recipe. If I ever do, I would have to make it known. I have had War Su Gai at every single restaurant that serves it if I am able and NOTHING compares to Ko Sheng. YES, they are still open after decades! But how much longer? I have asked named Chef's to venture there, study it, visit, record it, want to know the story of this place that haunts my taste buds. But no one has ever bothered. What a royal place with such little renown. I usually don't speak up much, but THIS recipe deserves recognition when done RIGHT! Ty, Kims and Ko Sheng for providing something people will NEVER forget in their lifetime.

Tanya Ross saying "Almond Boneless Chicken" as her favorite, and the woman behind her overhearing and saying, "Number 16!"

For sure it isn't her first time at Kim's
Michigan likes to take credit for all sorts of things. ABC is a huge deal in Ohio. It’s delicious here and we still have the almonds!

What do you think the crispy coating is on the outside of the chicken? That was my favorite part!
When I moved to Texas from Michigan and ordered almond chicken I was sorely disappointed.
Did you ever find any ABC in Texas? We moved to texas too and no luck finding ABC
@@Atochabsh the closest thing is probably wor su gi
Yeah me too I've been looking for Almond Boneless Chicken for 10 years.
@@reginaldeberhart8521 wor su gui is the original. Almond chicken is the knockoff
@@GodBody-BodyofGod come to find out they're the same. There's a video on here explaining the name change.

I love Almond Boneless Chicken. I would love to see your recipe.
we are all still waiting for this recipe lol
My all time favorite chinese dish.
Red Lotus Restaurant in Auburn, WA started serving ABC in 1962, been a favorite of mine for more than 60 years.
I knew there'd be another Washingtonian saying "We have it too!!" Lol
@@tomynoksTAI TUNG IN CHINATOWN ID in Seattle IS #1 thank me later
Kim's was just awesome! Still miss them. I am lucky to have a great ABC place close to me now.

Yes, I think The Golden Garden in Spokane . And Wau Kue in Burien WA next to Seattle. Both excellent
Can get it in Montana, too... but not in SF sadly.

You get to taking things for granted
Since I moved to Florida from Detroit, the Chinese is just not the same.

Thank goodness we can get this in Washington state too
I think we had Chinese immigrants long before MICHIGAN!!
We had a restaurant here in gastonia nc that served almond boneless chicken. It was amazing!!!
We have the same type of almond chicken in SC and Georgia as well. I didn't know there were different types.
Been in NC for years. Always get ABC when back in MI : )
👄 yum yum
my all-time favorite
There was a little place in Portland, OR that used to make ABC until they closed like 15 or 20 years ago...

Totally agree with you. We were spoiled living in Seattle, Phoenix not so much.
Growing up it was Almond Duck in Los Angeles. I notice when Mandarin restaurants popped up the Cantonese items disappeared.

On the west coast Pacific Northwest we call it almond FRIED chicken. Thats why people mayve cant find it outside Detroit
Wor su gai originated at Ding Ho’s in Columbus Ohio
We don’t have Almond Chicken in NYC metro
No place like home😔
Oh how I missed Kim’s - Detroit has the best Chinese Food - Moved to NC 8 years ago from Detroit - the food here 👎🏾

Omg I ate here before
ABC is from Columbus, oh. Stop the lies. Lol😂 And the gravy is supposed to be yellow. Go Buckeyes.
lol, Wor Sue Gai is from Columbus Ohio you northerners are just too proud to call it by its real name or give credit to its founders Ding Ho.
looks like a dogshit version of War Su Gai
