Wow. So good to hear this after so many years. I'm the one that recorded all the strings on this song. My name is Alfredo De La Fé and I still play all over the World. What a nice treat this is.
Amen to that, I hate how he died though. So glad he made the music. This is a masterpiece with Martha Wash's incredible vocals. She's also something else😅
There's a looooong version that just defies description. That bass. Those thundering piano chords, and how can you use words to describe how these people can siiiiiiiiiiiing??? Live in the beat of our disco hearts Sylvester xxx
This is my nephews computer. Sylvestor is and will always be the best DISCO Singer of all time. He was the QUEEN of Disco for all us guys. We loved Donna Summer but Sylvestor had the HIGH ENERGY that only he could deliver.
Thank you for the music, Brother!!! It lives on forever & your earth shattering voice😀 This song gives me chills, those voices though!!! It's definitely the Lord!!!
The version of this that Larry Levan played with the string only intro was, in a word, THRILLING and people would nearly stampede to get ON the dancefloor when they heard it -- that is if we weren't already out there, 'cuz this was such a special, crowd-pleasing classic that from the first notes, we'd start screaming. Thank you Alfredo!!!!
This is on full-blast while I go through the posts. accept the music people. I can admit that my Southern church upbringing has me at odds with the lifestyle. That has nothing to to me accepting the fact that SYLVESTER ruled the disco sound.
It is a LIFE not a lifestyle! Matthew 7:1-3 NIV “Do not judge, or you too will be judged. For in the same way you judge others, you will be judged, and with the measure you use, it will be measured to you. “Why do you look at the speck of sawdust in your brother’s eye and pay no attention to the plank in your own eye?
Dimitri Of Paris did 2 remixes of this song- this one above and one called Sunday Morning Mix, that is also here on youtube. When Two Tons Of Fun parted ways with Sylvester at the end of 1979 and recorded their self-titled debut album for release in 1980, Sylvester simply replaced them with Jeanie Tracy and 2 other girls for the 1980 SELL MY SOUL album- Jeanie's voice is the big powerful one you hear throughout the whole album. Martha did sing backup on one track- a dance version of Peggy Lee's classic "FEVER".
Thank you so much for posting...Alfredo I am a string fanatic and your strings are soooo awesome on this song.......don't forget that Martha Wash is singing also adlibs, with Ella Mitchell, Jeanie Tracy. We went to church on this one...whooooooooo
Je confirme Martine, quand on écoute cette musique on a qu'une envie, bouger, seule où accompagné, la musique et la danse sont un sacré traitement pour le moral , bisous .
@salsaviolin This is my favorite Sylvester song and a timeless classic. Thank you Mr. De La Fe for contributing your talent to one of my favorite songs!
Thank you Alfredo for those strings especially in the break down part. It was because of your strings that I bought The Original Hits by Sylvester. You must have had fun recording this song "I Need You." It is fun listening to it.
The beg to differ with anyone who thinks the background vocals were Martha Wash an Izora Rhodes. They were in fact were done by Jeanne Tracy an Ella Holte, accomplished studio vocalist an friends of Martha. Sylvester had already fallen out with Martha an Izora by this time, so other vocalist were brought in to do this song. Personally, I've never heard this record spun better than the "hurt" the late Larry Levan put on it one nite at the Paradise Garage!

@LoveMusicLover2012 @lr2275: LoveMusicLover, I think it's pretty obvious that lr2275 knows that Sylvester 'is' a man from the context...'Fabulous Extravaganza' in all caps...that this was just gay slang e.g. Miss Thing, Ms Honey etc. It's all good...let's just enjoy the great Sylvester in all his/her glory. Plus it can never be anything wrong with being called the 'other' sex...the life givers/bearers. And yes Sylvester was a true hu-Man 4 BE-ing true to the Light of
