I appreciate these videos. They are very informative. I have been scouting out travel trailers for several months. I think my expectations are too high. A $40,000 travel trailer should have a better build quality in my opinion. That is a pretty good chunk of change. But for that kind of money, you get tires that should upgraded, inferior suspension and incandescent lights. It really seems that most companies just find a way to save a buck. It just annoys me that even spending that kind of money for something decent, I would still have to spend several thousands more in upgrades to get it up to the level that I would want. I am not even that picky. I just want something that will hold up an built to last.
Rodney Williams Buy used. Much higher quality. 10yr old unit. Then put in upgrades. Be in at 40% with twice the quality. I bought 34’ Everest by Keystone after upgrades and roof $16000.00. They are making junk today. Look at videos on build quality on UA-cam.
This is exactly how long my travel trailer was I sold about a year or so ago back when I had a lifted truck....turning was horrible not only because of the lift kit but also because of the travel trailer rear hitch configuration, I’d say if you go this long you might as well go 5th wheel to make your life easier
I’m getting a 29 feet imagine camper it’s huge and all I can talk about
Great video but overall the unit seems very inconsistent. First under storage had aluminum and second was wood. Kitchen appliances didn't match. Living room seating is weird and the two a/c units were setup differently as well.
just bought a camper same size for 7 thousand, it is an older type but 38 is a big deal! you can do so much with it and it makes a difference!!!!!!!! cant even say how much work we will be doing because we want own own style, but my fiance worked with cabinetry and knows what he is doing ,cant wait to see. getting the camper tomorrow~
Just watched your video. I just bought an almost identical Outback this past March. We love it. It's a 2018 Outback 328RL for rear living. Had to have the master in the front as it provides huge closet space with sliding mirror doors. Your unit did not have that feature. Also, our unit had the entertainment system in a viewable location, unlike your unit youve shown. The other main selling point on ours were the double 8 cuft refrigerators! Yes, two friges. The automatic leveling system on mine is a 7.3 system vs your 7.1. I think the difference is that the stabilizers are also automatic. We wanted the dinette set with chairs, but that option is almost impossi let to find. Unfortunately, the Outback only comes in this Polar White with black trim. We really liked the earthtone colors available in the previous model year(s). The docking station design is a problem. It does not provide for fresh water fill under gravity feed. Also, the city water hookup is too restrictive causing unacceptable time to fill the fresh water tank at a campground site using water pressure. I cured both problems myself by reengineering the docking station with brass fittings. Now I can fill the fresh water tank to full in 14 minutes over the 40+ minutes it took at the campground. Plus, I can now fill the fresh water tank via gravity feed from a holding tank when boon docking. Previously, gravity feed of a 40 gallon tank would not overcome the 1/4 inch backflow valve spring pressure. When dealer said that option is not on this RV,laughed, knowing they didn't know what they were talking about. I fixed it the following day. The unit pulls nice and steady behind my Ram Mega Cab Cummins. Thank you.
Excellent review. Thanks again.
Everyone I've ran into that has those windows, hates them!!..I have also found that many like myself prefer the older style crank windows because you can have them open at your convenience and not around the weather forcast!! I have the slided windows in the camper I'm currently living in and can't hardly wait to get my older TT fixex up for living in.If this newer model had those older crank windows I woulx just sell the other Tt and just stay in this one...It would be nice if you guys could take a survey on the windows.I would love to see the results!!
A bit of a conundrum for me. It's huge, looks to be set up to feed a crew, but there's only one dedicated sleeping area. Tail swing on that thing would be interesting too. Bigger is not always better.
Tnx for the honest review!!!😊
The Open Range Roamer 340fl seems to be a better floor plan for full timers. It offer the wd hookup in a pull behind and has a front deck option. However that floorplan is about 5 years old and probably discontinued. This unit has some similarity to it.
Open range great quality 👍
I have the 2015 Keystone Outback Terrain 210trs. I really like the rear king bed slide. It totally enlarges the interior. I like the large 15 inch wheels so the unit sits high off ground because I go off road. The 2016 version is 14 inch wheel and lower to ground sadly a
disadvantage for me because I also like easy access for crawling underneath. They totally boxed in a large area that with some carpentry I opened up providing lots more storage. Many other things i would improve upon. They cheaply and stupidly used non stainless steel screws in many places outside which were corroding since day one. I prefer most all my cabinets to open normal like in the house. My Outback has most all cabinets open the normal door way I like. I choose my Keystone over a similar sized Jayco due to the rear slide instead of the dinette side slide of the Jayco. I also have nice windows on my rear wall instead of a huge Jayco decal. The overall look of my Keystone Outback is more elegant than the Jayco. I also prefer the lighter colored exterior over those dark chocolate brown ones. Happy RVing. Keep all campgrounds peaceful, quite, clean and safe with lots of healthy fuN recreational activities nearby. God bless
Just did a cross country trip with my 38’ cougar. My first travel trailer and I was able to manage with my f250. Wish I would have gotten a fifth wheel but it works.
I just did a 38 year old cougar in my travel trailer
@@gingervitis1070 ok sounds nice
@Stratoliner5 you’re rig is solid, no need to worry
I think this one missed the mark. But it would be hard pressed for me to think a 10K lb bumper pull that is 38ft long is a good choice. That is a lot of torque applied aft of your rear axle.
I really like that you offer the pros and cons, you really don't see that in too many videos. That said, 'some' of your guessed measurements seem to be a bit off.
I've been looking at these and considering purchasing one, the rear living floorplan does offer washer and dryer hookups too
I tow a 37' travel trailer with my Excursion and its a dream on the highway to pull. Off the highway is not bad either. The proper hitch setup is key at highway speeds. What I don't understand about the layout of this Outback is all the seating at the U-shape dinette but only a master bedroom, seems odd. The TV situation is weird too, unless your cooking of course. I also see the leveling jacks directly behind the wheels as an issue for steep or rough terrain. I'll stick with my 312BHDS by Coachmen, makes better use of the space.
What hitch are you using?
Nice!!
Ya rented a keystone last month very impressed with the layout and quality
See if you can find a livinlite camplite trailer for review. I've got the 2016 21bhs model. Great Vid. Cheers
Aunt and Uncle have an Outback with the 7 point leveling. They don’t have this unit. I thought my 38’ Reflection was heavy for a bumper pull at 8,990 UVW.
I like the layout, it should come with a washer dryer hookup imo, although if you're in the market for this, you probably already have a good 3/4 ton or bigger pickup to pull it so you can you could use the rest of the spare change to go to the laundry mat . Honestly imo I would rather have tan leather than all black. All in all I could make it work thanks for the video and review
This is a very common layout for the last oh 35 years or so for Park Models. Our last camper was a 40ft Park model bumper hitch with 2 slides weighed about 10k but ours had the Glass sliding doors and loved it we wish more models used Sliding glass doors makes it nice for sunny days can tilt the awning way down and keeps it nice and cool.
Awesome informational educational video experience Y'alls
You do great reviews. Have you seen the Forest River Surveyor 247 BHDS. I purchased one last September. I think you would find it to be a great floor plan for its size.
Love the channel keep it up.
The problem with a mobile home is every time you move it everything has to be put back in its place or you just throw everything in the sink and deal with it later. Maybe I'm sloppy or lazy but when I'm parked I leave things out if it's something I use often through the day like hand soap. They should have counter space with a raised lip so you can leave things out and not find it on the floor after moving the rig. They could even put a lip around the kitchen table. If you pull over for lunch or to site see and you don't want to level up the unit, you can still use it but the problem is things sliding of the table.
They also should have some sort of secure closet where your valuables go in case while you are away someone breaks in. For example where the fireplace is there could be a thick wood or steel front with a hidden lock that a drawer comes out when you want to get in it. There are so many ways to break into an RV that a secure closet or maybe the bedroom would be nice.
I know they are concerned about weight but the doors should be at least the quality and feel of your home doors and should go to the floor. There is no reason for big gaps under these doors.
I don't like the A/C units over the bed. Who wants that noisy thing running when trying to sleep or read or watch TV. That's why the front part of the RV should be cooled with the back A/C and the back cooled by the front A/C, if they must keep them on the roof. The cowlings rot in the sun and cost a lot to replace and can get damaged by low hanging branches. Mine were a great place for the wasps to make home.
You never mention it but hopefully the counters have under cupboard dimmable led lights so you don't have to always turn on the over head lights. It is surprising how a few well placed LED makes the whole rig usable for most activities. They draw so little power you could leave them on all the time or set a circuit up to run on a timer or light activated which are cheap to purchase on Amazon for 12 or 24 volt. I've been using both for a couple years now. They can also be used for outdoor safety lighting. I have one for my porch light.
Nice unit, nice review!!
Ok, so this has a big table and a lot of sitting area, but it isn't a bunk house. What were they thinking. I would see that saying "hey you are a big family come get me" sorta thing. Great video though. Keep it up.😁😁😊😊
The sewer connection appears dangerously low. I had a 2004 Wilderness that sat low on the suspension I always worried about the plumbing striking something
A must have.
Love your channel and how diverse it is with 5'th wheels and now TT's. I am only interested in the 5'th wheels but I love to hear your thoughts and ideas on things.
Also, please dont take this wrong but I think the old into (this one) is better than the new one. But mainly for the catchy beat :)
I'm mixing up the intros. I'll probably switch back in a while though
Great video I have a older Outback travel trailer. We got it new in 2010. I hear you say a lot to up grade to a ceramic tolet. Mine came with one back then. Also the roof tussle are galvanized steel. I don't know if they still build them like this. I have had very little problems with it. I been busy have you found your new trailer ?
I would move the recliner sofa to the back of the island wall. Then install a tv arm on the slide out to face both seating arrangements if i bought this. It would need to be moved when breaking down to travel but is worth it with the lay out. The u shaped dinette is great with the windows surrounding it. Agree on the tires and breaking system. Those need to be upgraded. No rug in the bedroom for me. Bathroom shower height was disappointing. The floor plan is a favorite of mine now. Great video. Thanks for the info.
Great video, like the kitchen layout but the TV angle was horrible. For that long of a TT I see it being difficult navigating some campgrounds plus if you don't have a large tow vehicle and anti sway it will be a white knuckle day
We used to call these Park-Models; This is a great Junior upgrade for a family but honestly, for a few thousand more just get the fifth wheel.
He few thousand is just the trailer, then there's the fifth wheel capable truck and then you have to compensate for all the storage you lost losing your truck bed (yeah the fifth wheel trailer will have more storage but not a full truck bed more storage)
Amazing
I pull a 2018 40' Mallard Travel Trailer with 3 slides myself; nearly 400 Sq. ft. in there. Mine has a separated axle, however, which makes the trailer track far better than a normal tandem. She is long but the axles are moved forward so turning is no big deal. Tongue weight comes in at only 780 lbs. and dry weight is only 8600. One thing this guy did not mention is the fact that most of these with the bedroom slide does indeed have a king size bed, but most are a king short. Which means 72" wide and only 75" long. I'm 6'1" so my feet typically are off the end of the bed unless I want to rub my head on the wall all night. First thing I did was lose an extra 5 inches of space at the foot of the bed and added a true RV king (72x80). Just cut a new platform from the hinge down and added the new mattress.
For a RV trailer that "long" there is not a whole lot of storage. Notice how tiny the overhead cabinets were.
You sure that looks so much like are v lite wow thats the first trailer i seen that is even close to are Flagstaff thx 🇨🇦
I actually like the layout of that one.. the only really bad thing is TV, and for something that you might be using year round, a Washer dryer would be nice to have.. but otherwise.. its nicer then my last apartment in Madison...
ich.. Madison.
You're about to see a bunch of really big travel trailers because these new trucks are rated to tow more conventional than they are fifth or goose.
The towing capacity would be the same, only difference is pin weight or payload of truck for fifth wheel and for conventional it is hitch weight .
Last February we bought a 39' 2018 Brand new for just over $21,000 out the door. It is a Forest River 37BHSS2Q.....It doesn't have as many slides....but it does have 2 Queen Size Bedrooms and the Bathroom is bigger than the one in this video....It isn't all that fancy...(about the same as this one)....but I'm going camping ....not glamping...so it works out great for us.....It takes a little getting use to driving the thing in town.....I have a Hensley Hitch (adds another foot)....and I have a Crew Cab Long bed Dually....So about as long as a Semi....
Nice RV
Id say this one is a miss.
That long and only one bedroom and no washer dryer hook up. No thanks.
Oh course if you do a lot of time in camper. Best to get a double fridge.
You can sleep in the front area!
LamborghiniReven1000 - Don’t laugh! That’s actually a nice plus.
You should try to find and check out a Jayco Eagle. Big travel trailer comparable to this one.
Being 6’-5”, I appreciate you mentioning the height of the shower. Good show!
Isn't the problem with long travel trailers that (since there is so much distance of body from the rear axel) that getting hung up on driveway is greatly increased? I'm guessing that this usually isn't a problem for 5th wheels because the clearance of the floor of the trailer sits much higher off the ground than any travel trailer does.
At 4:07, there was an Outback Steakhouse that was close to where I live, but it closed down in 2015. The place had mold.
I agree with you on this. Deeper slides in the living area?
Your voice could sell ice to an eskimo. Good catch about the cupboard needing holdup. And that MBRM is amazing. The bathroom is nice I would have added more of the LR to get bigger bathroom. And The sitting area is awkward for the TV. Placement of the microwave is odd too. Not a fan of the drop down counter tops.
No problem if it was a 5th wheel. I towed my Mother-in-laws 38' tag-along approx 150 mile for permanent set-up. Dodge dually I had at the time towed it great, I just hated towing it. I had a gooseneck 42'x8'Wx8'T full living quarters horse trailer that towed better loaded with 4 horses (14k+ lbs) than that 38' tag along camper. My wife has been talking about getting a camper but I told her I refuse to tow a tag-along. We live on NC coast and RV centers around here don't have many 5th wheels in stock. The salesman said it is because so many people are getting the large cab short bed trucks and look for tag-alongs.
Really should have a w/d. Combo unit in it for that price
I’ll stick to my 40ft 1998 Gulfstream travel trailer. Much better layout for me. Seems like a lot of wasted space in a unit that large. BTW my 98 has a Coleman Mach that has never given me trouble. So far it’s the most reliable ac unit I’ve ever seen on a camper.
10.5 GVW is what my 02 Coachman 29 Footer weighed. Im not a big fan of gear driven slideouts, and my had issues with both slideouts. Is the trailer really 38 foot and then the hitch, or is 38 foot with the hitch?
That's crazy long! Who needs a trailer that big and long?
Nice, now to just wait about 5 years and pick one of these up for about 5 grand full of leaks and rot. I noticed the slides aren’t aluminum framed, I wonder why
I would like to see this long trailer in a BH version
I know I’ve committed on the bathroom lighting both most couples buying at an older age and I’m sure like me the eyes tend to go so lighting is essential
lol when he talks about the slide-out horror stories that was my mind made up.
Hey love the videos. If I could make a suggestion, add the model of the unit “keystone outback 333fk” or whatever it happens to be that video, somewhere. In the title ideally but also maybe the description, idk how the search function works.
But that would bring views of people looking at that exact model and doing some research.
Great review! Have you reviewed the Heartland Mallard M335? We are looking for one that we can be in half time when we retire soon.
I love this trailer, but for $40K, I think I should get more. Rodney Williams says it best. All in all, I can buy an older rig with slides and upgrade to the "goodies" I like.
For $40k you can get a real nice ORV (Outdoors RV) unit that is built like a tank.
You could shop around and get a better deal.
My concern is the flimsy suspension at 1:44.
Has to be more stout than that.
I would buy 10yr old upper end unit. Probably a 5th wheel. Then spend on upgrades. The 10yr units are much high quality construction. You will be in at 40% price double the quality.
Or you can find an older one that isn't water damaged and remodel the whole thing yourself. If you are efficient it will be nicer and thousands of dollars cheaper
My new Keystone Cougar doesn't have gas struts on the cabinet doors that open upward. We are on our first trip and when we get back our salesman is going to get an earful. Try getting out with one hand while holding the door up. Their engineers probably never went camping one day!!!
Bro, long time subscriber here, this unit vacuums! (sucks) your head is probably rubbing up on the ceiling! go back and count how many times that you would done something better change this better tires! etc...
I could see this being a full time living one pull
Thank you for a.nice.review.
I think.you.ment steel wheels and not tires LOL.
As a improvement suggestion I like you to in the future mention.more about insulation and heating. If the trailer is.good for cold climates is kind of good to know.
You have a new subscriber.
Very homelike
I like it. Could I tow this with a Ram 1500 eco diesel or would I need a 2500 dually? With that length I’m kind of concerned about the tail wagging the dog.
We had a guy with a 40' bumperpull but was only 30amp! That poor guy couldnt cook and run the 1 ac unit.....1 ac unit wasnt enough at all either
I like the idea of the extra stabilizers but I don't like the layout and extra length. I have a cougar 32rli and it's long enough.
You should do a review on the Jayco octane super lite 161 toy hauler.
So yinz have this lay out but a little smaller???
In your opinion would a titan xd be able to handle something similar to this? Especially if it was under 10000lb and about 35 ft.
I've heard a lot of debate over airbags vs load leveling hitches especially with larger TT's, care to give your opinion.
Completely different configurations. Weight distributing hitches spread the weight, so the front axle carries part of the tongue weight. They also provide additional sway control. Air bags just restore the rear ride height and offer no real benefit to stability. Air bags are NOT a substitution for a quality weight distribution system.
That huge seating area with the dinky cheap table is their way of saying, it avoids installing more expensive cabinetry for storage, who the hell needs that much eating area.
That long and there's so much it doesn't have...
That is a traveling cabin. Wow thanks for filming that
Love the floor plan layout👍🏼Only I would like lighter colors
How much down payment. How much a month. Let me know I like it.
Make me a deal.
A realistic salesman not a normal salesman tells it ike it is , pros and cons I like that
Nice channel ! We subscribe ! 😄
So is that a 50 Amp unit? I would assume so with 2 AC’s.
I have a 36ft travel trailer and like it a lot more than this, the only thing I like is the auto leveler.
What trailer did you buy?
Could you plz plz Do a Keystone Bullet Premier
For the person that wants a cheaper trailer, this looks like a descent option.
My husband and I are going to buy a brand new 5th wheel. Sometime either in May or June of 2020. We will be paying cash! But, when you go looking, no one trailer has all you want! I would prefer a Keystone . But, we was told that Keystone does honor full time livers with the warranty. Is this true? Maybe you could give me some advise.
Cable slides are in my opinion the second best slid out operation mechanism. They typically don’t cause the unit to ‘walk’. Compression is usually as close to perfect as it’s going to get. As long as it’s installed properly and free of supplier issues it’s a good system. Rack and pinion is my least favorite.
Is it four seasons?
WOW 😲.. should’ve been a triple axels tho
Interesting features as far as storage goes and layout. Can’t understand why the rear AC unit wasn’t also ducted. Our TT has a 32’ cabin and needs both the 13.5 and 15 units running on 90 degree days to keep all areas cool. Since I notice AC ducts in the bedroom, I’d bet the main living area would not get too comfortable in the summer.
Thanks for sharing though!
He also said the rear unit was "direct fired", wonder what he actually meant. Direct fired anything usually pertains to heaters that don't have heat exchangers, not heat pumps.
Eric Styer basically the air comes directly from the ac unit. It is not piped throughout or even through the bedroom.
Eric Styer It’s direct “feed” air flow, meaning non-ducted.
I saw a 45 footer not including hitch!
I think the huge sink in the kitchen isn't a trend. It's way easier to wash big pans in a bigger sink instead of a big one that is divided. I prefer the bigger one because you could also buy the rollup metal drainer.
2:40 how much weight can that rack hold?
I HAVE A 1984 WEEK ENDER,BY SKYLINE WITH COLE MAN MACH A/C...IS STILL GOING WITH MINIMAL MAINTENANCE...IT WILL FREEZE YOU OUT ON LOW...OUR RV IS 23 FT....
I see a trend forming here...
My issue with all these RV"s is never an outlet near the stove. Coffee? Toaster? Hello??
Hmmm. Feel like after the purchase I’d be disappointed with this layout. That living room alone is horrific. Watch one movie and you’d need a chiropractor. But I do love your unbiased reviews BTBRV
First, no way would I pull a " bumper pull" unit this long. Would got to a 5th wheel. Secondly, we have a small travel trailer, 24' Keystone with a cable operated slide room. We've had it for 11 years now and no trouble with the cable unit itself. I do have to inspect the screws that hold the cable brackets onto the slide. Have had to replace them once. If it does malfunction, it would be a giant pain to get the slide back in.
Wow, thanks for the positive feedback. I guess I'll have to trade in my Dodge Ram for a Subaru! I am a 70 year-old Vietnam Era Veteran; so, I guess my macho days are behind me. BTW: here in the great NW, lots of all wheel drive Subaru owners!
@@samuelcollie2050 due know I am just messing with you, thanks for serving, my father also served in 69-70, again thank you for your service
Yay! Old intro is back :)
I had a 42' long one before. too long lol
