  • You'd be forgiven for thinking the Nebula looks like a down jacket. It looks, feels and performs extremely similarly, however, the main difference is the Nebula features a fully synthetic insulation, making it a brilliant jacket for our typically wet and cold UK mountain conditions.

    Thanks for review. Today I tried this jacket on and I found really well designed to my body shape. Not too tight under armpit, good sleeve length. I just felt a hood little too big but fully adjustable so it is no a huge issue. Possibly I will buy it soon. Just curious how compressible this jacket is. Of course it can not be as good as down jacket.

    I'm currently looking into the Nebula and the Neutrino Jacket by Rab. I like that the Nebula is synthetic (for ethical reasons) but i don't know if it is just "enough" for what i need. I mostly would use as a hiking jacket in the alps. I dont do anything too extreme though, so i'm not sure with which of them to get with...

    • @trekitt
      @trekitt  2 роки тому +2

      The Neutrino is quite a bit warmer but doesn't cope with damp conditions as well, so I guess it depends how warm you need to be and whether the insulation's wet weather performance matters to you. I'd probably lean more towards the Nebula for active use. Harry

    A great video yet again. I am considering one of these, but i was wondering about how they are washed? Do they get washed as per normal sheet type insulated jackets, or do they need to be washed / dried in the same way as down? TIA

    • @trekitt
      @trekitt  3 роки тому +3

      The Nebula Pro can be washed as you would wash any synthetic jacket. Please use a proper “detergent” such as Nikwax Tech Wash. if you need to replenish the DWR a spray on is best, such as Nikwax TX Direct. Wash on a gentle cycle no hotter then 40 degrees Celsius. The jacket can then be air dried. Thanks for watching. Paul.

      As long as it is a light rain (not the kind that drench you to the bone), I think the Lightline from ME would be a good choice. I am sure Paul will reply, but I think you can’t go wrong that choice. Just keep in mind that down is best when you will be in drier conditions because moisture can cause the down to deloft.

    • @trekitt
      @trekitt  3 роки тому +2

      Hi Stephen. The Nebula Pro would work well for your intended use, but bear in mind that if it is raining heavily, some water may seep in through the seams, as the jacket is not 100% waterproof. You may want to consider the Rab Valiance

    • @trekitt
      @trekitt  3 роки тому +1

      Hi Anton. All synthetic jackets of similar warmth will have similar pack sizes due to the physical amount of insulation. The differences are going to be marginal at best, so if pack size and low weight are your priority I suggest you look at a down insulated jacket. If wet weather performance is you priority have a look at the Arcteryx Atom AR - www.trekitt.co.uk/facetresults.aspx?Term=Atom%20ar

    I think this would work well for the Pacific Northwest of the US. How does Cirrus HL compare to PrimaLoft Gold that Patagonia uses? Thanks!

    • @trekitt
      @trekitt  3 роки тому +1

      HI, I think it would work well too! Cirrus HL is a blown insulation that mimics natural down clusters, while Primaloft Gold is a sheet insulation. Blown insulation lofts better and warms up quicker, packs down smaller and is more breathable. Sheet insulation resists compression better, is more weather resistant and more stable. It really is a case of "horses-for-courses" depending on your needs and the environment the jacket will be used in. I hope that helps. Paul.

    Which one is warmer? Nebula pro or kinder smock?
    Which one is more durable (outer Shell) nebula pro or kinder smock?
    Thank you.

    • @trekitt
      @trekitt  3 роки тому

      Hi, The Nebula Pro uses a synthetic filling whilst the Kinder Smock uses a natural down filling. Warmth wise they are very similar, and they have very similar face fabrics making them equally durable. The Nebula however performs significantly better in cold and wet conditions thanks to the Pertex Quantum Pro fabric and the synthetic filling. The fit of the Nebula is slimmer and this makes the filling more effective. The Kinder is a bit of a retro piece with a loose, baggy fit. It is super comfy and warm, but for serious outdoor use, especially in the UK, I'd recommend the Nebula. I hope that helps. Paul.

    And one last thing is, how does this compare in warmth to the axion pro, axion, and electron. Sorry for the questions :)

    • @trekitt
      @trekitt  3 роки тому

      Axion and Axion Pro are warmer, Electron is about the same. However there are a huge number of variables that will affect how "warm" you feel in any particular jacket. Just selecting a jacket by "warmth" may not get you the best jacket for the job either. Weather resistance, weight, pack size, durability, fit, etc. must also be taken into account. Happy Christmas. Paul.

      The Fjallraven Vidda Pro Wool Padded Jacket (link below) would be a great option. It features the toughest fabric of any insulated jacket we stock, can be waxed for added weather-resistance and uses wool to add extra insulation. www.trekitt.co.uk/clothing/jackets/fjallraven-mens-vidda-pro-wool-padded-jacket-dark-olive__40038

    Can you please help differentiate between Xenair Alpine and Nebula pro in terms of purpose and use recommendations + intended temperature range.

    • @trekitt
      @trekitt  Рік тому

      I can't do temperature range (we did a video about this: ua-cam.com/video/HvukvCzkGW0/v-deo.html ), but I can tell you that the Xenair uses a slightly air-permeable (wind passes through) outer fabric to maximise breathability, whereas the Nebula has a windproof fabric. The Xenair is really focused on active use and the Nebula more of a low/mid intensity piece. Both are quite similar in terms of warmth when there's not much wind.
