What a wonderful gift "Never Knew Love Like This" by Stephanie Mills was to us folks that went out dancing in 1979.

    Lyrics 🗒:
I never knew love like this before
    Now I'm lonely never more
Since you came into my life
You are my lovelight, this I know
And I'll never let you go
You my all, you're part of me
Once I was lost and now I'm found
Then you turned my world around
When I need, I call your name
'Cause I never knew love like this before
    Opened my eyes
'Cause I never knew love like this before
    What a surprise
'Cause I never knew love like this before
This feeling's so deep inside of me
    Such a tender fantasy
You're the one I'm living for
You are my sunlight and my rain
    And time could never change
What we share forever more, ooh
I never knew love like this before
    Now I'm lonely never more
Since you came into my life
'Cause I never knew love like this before
    Opened my eyes
'Cause I never knew love like this before
    What a surprise
'Cause I never knew love like this before
You are my lovelight, this I know
And I'll never let you go
You my all, you're part of me
Once I was lost and now I'm found
Then you turned my world around
When I need, I call your name
'Cause I never knew love like this before
    Opened my eyes
'Cause I never knew love like this before
    What a surprise
'Cause I never knew love like this before
    Inside of me
I never (never) knew love like this before
    Opened my eyes
    never
    (Never) never
(Never knew love like this) I never knew, I never knew, I never
    (Never) never
    (Never) never
(Never knew love like this) I never knew, I never knew, I never knew
    (Never) never
    (Never) never
(Never knew love like this) I never knew
    (Never) never knew
    never
(Never knew love like this) I never knew

    Stephanie Mills Info 📰:
Stephanie Mills was born on March 22, 1957 in Brooklyn (Bedford- Stuyvesant), New York. She is a singer, actress and songwriter. Stephanie Mills sang Gospel music as a child at Brooklyn's Cornerstone Baptist Church. During the 1980s, she had five Number 1 R&B hits, including the songs: "Home" and "I Have Learned To Respect The Power Of Love". She won two Grammy Awards for Best R&B Vocal Performance Female and Best R&B Song for her song: "Never Knew Love Like This Before", in 1981. Her albums: What Cha Gonna Do With My Lovin, Sweet Sensation and Stephanie, all went Gold or Platinum, with 20th Century Fox Records.
Stephanie Mills began her professional career at age nine, appearing in the Broadway musical Maggie Flynn. After winning Amateur Night at the Apollo Theater six weeks straight at the age of eleven, Stephanie Mills went on to become the opening act for the Isley Brothers. In 1973, Stephanie Mills was signed to Paramount Records by Michael Barbiero, and her first single "I Knew It Was Love" was released but it didn't chart. Stephanie Mills then singed with ABC Records and released her 1974 album: Movin' In The Right Direction. It didn't get the desired results the record label was looking and they released her from her contract. She was later signed to Motown Records after being suggested by Suzanne de Passe. Her 1975 album: For The First Time, failed to produce a hit song, resulting in Stephanie Mills leaving Motown Records in 1976.
Stephanie Mills continued to act on stage in the meantime and rose to stardom as "Dorothy" in the original seven-time Tony Award winning Broadway run of the musical The Wiz from 1974 to 1979. The song: "Home", from the show later became a Number 1 R&B hit and her signature song. Still, Stephanie Mills’s commercial success in the music industry remained elusive until 1979, when she signed to the 20th Century Fox Records record label. There, she found her niche in mainly Disco music, recording songs including: "Put Your Body In It", "You Can Get Over" and "What Cha Gonna Do With My Lovin'". The resulting album: What Cha' Gonna Do With My Lovin', being her first gold record.
She quickly followed the success with her 1980 album: Sweet Sensation, which featured her hit song: "Never Knew Love Like This Before". The single became a #12 R&B and #6 Pop hit in 1980, as well as reaching #4 in the UK Singles Chart. She won two Grammy Awards for Best Female R&B Vocal Performance and Best R&B Song for her song: "Never Knew Love Like This Before", in 1981. Her 1981 album: Stephanie, featured a top hit for both her and Teddy Pendergrass entitled: "Two Hearts".
During the 1980s, she had five Number 1 R&B hits, including the songs: "Home", "I Have Learned To Respect The Power Of Love", "I Feel Good All Over", "(You're Puttin') A Rush On Me" and "Something In The Way (You Make Me Feel)". Her following albums: What Cha Gonna Do With My Lovin, Sweet Sensation and Stephanie went Gold or Platinum, all through 20th Century Fox Records. Stephanie Mills' 1983 album: Merciless, featured her hit cover of Prince's song: "How Come You Don't Call Me Anymore?", as well as the #3 dance chart hit: "Pilot Error", which was her first Dance hit in the US. In 1984 she had her third UK hit with the single: "The Medicine Song" (#29), which also reached #1 on the US Dance chart and #8 on the R&B chart. On May 24, 1984, Stephanie Mills returned to theater to star in a short-lived touring revival of The Wiz.
In 1985, Stephanie Mills' recording of the song: "Bit By Bit (Theme from Fletch)", was featured in the 1985 Chevy Chase film, Fletch, and reached #52 on the Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Singles & Tracks chart, #78 on The Billboard Hot 100 and #15 on the Dance Chart. Success for Stephanie Mills had peaked until 1986, when her version of the Angela Winbush-penned song: "I Have Learned To Respect The Power Of Love", hit #1 on the R&B singles chart. She truly returned with her next album release: If I Were Your Woman, in 1987 under MCA Records, which she was now signed. The hits from the album include the title track, originally a hit for Gladys Knight & The Pips in 1971, a three-week #1 R&B hit: "I Feel Good All Over", and "You're Puttin' A Rush On Me", to name a few of the singles released. The album reached Platinum status. That same year, she appeared in the NBC TV special: "Motown: Merry Christmas", along with other musical artists and actors, performing the song: "Christmas Everyday", which was written by actor/comedian Redd Foxx.

Stephanie Mills' success continued with her 1989 album: Home. The hits from that album included: "The Comfort Of A Man", the title track, a cover of her old standard from The Wiz and another song penned by Angela Winbush titled: "Something In The Way You Make Me Feel", which became another platinum record for her.
Stephanie Mills would continue to record new music, release albums and perform, as well as act on stage throughout the 1990s and 2000s.
Stephanie Mills performed her song: Yesterday, prior to Pope Benedict XVI celebrating Mass at Yankee Stadium in New York on April 20, 2008.
Towards the end of 2012, Stephanie Mills released a new single: "So In Love This Christmas".
In 2015, she was cast as Aunt Em in the NBC live musical production of "The Wiz", forty years after her initial Broadway run in the show.
In November 2021, Stephanie Mills participated in a Verzuz concert with singer Chaka Khan, at which both singers performed hit songs from their discography.
TV One approached Stephanie Mills to do an Unsung episode several times over the recent years but she turned down the opportunity every time stating "that she doesn't want to get on these shows and open up her personal life". The iconic singer even refuses to participate in the Unsung episodes of her friends. “They’ve done Angela Winbush and they even wanted me to say something about her on that show, and I love Angela, we’re sisters. But I had to tell her, ‘I don’t want to do that.’ I’m not that girl”.
Stephanie Mills still performs her music live on stage in 2024.
      Miscellaneous Note 🗂:
