I love your guys honesty and openness in these videos. There are some amazing things in the video (like the wave spot at 16:00) but I appreciate that you can show the pollution issues and say that, for North Americans, it probably makes more sense to go to the Caribbean (also, it's warmer there). This really does a better job of showing what it's like to visit somewhere than only showing the good parts.
You make the best videos! I was worried at first when I saw the pro riders at the pro event but you still delivered a heart felt experience that captured the fun experiences and community that I love about kiteboarding. Thanks!

These video's just keep getting better. I could only wish for a kite life like that, i only went kiteboarding in Spain, France,Holland and Belgium for the last 20 years! Thanks for the great uploads and letting a man dream.
Nice... I learned in flat water, and also went out where waves and break is quite heavy, scary but after you do it for awhile it's fun. Great video keep them up
Hi. Great video, really enjoyed it, specially, because nowadays we cannot fly to Sal :(. I have been on Sal/Capo Verde several times. From Europe it is the closest warm destination in winter. I am curious what did you dislike (mean - out of comfort zone) except the long flight. Best regards.
Thank you! It’s a beautiful spot but as Canadians we are somewhat spoiled by empty kite beaches. There were so many kiters there - that was something we weren’t used to :)
For the flat water you should try Ponta Preta ( where you filmed those bigger waves ). Around the beach, after the shorebreak theres flat available plus its not so crowded usually. Kiteshop near the hotel ( name was kite & tonic I believe ) provides rescue service (30€ per rescue). Awesome video 🤙
It was great fun watching this video! In addition that I really like your style of approach things, I LOVE Cabo Verde!! You are right - in certain aspects the Caribbean is better.... but: Sal has some uniqueness highlights, and the people are great ( ok...I recognized some of the aggressive sellers from Palmera...:-)) For kitesurfing conditions are definitely demanding...waves are quite high and strong...And Ponta Preta is Champions League anyhow... Thanks again for this video and bringing me back some nice memories if Cape Verde...🤙🏼😎
Thank you :) we're glad you like the video. We really did enjoy our time in Sal, and you're right - it's a very unique place and the people are great! Ponta Preta is truly amazing, and hopefully someday we can go back and actually kite there :) Cheers!
Thanks Tom! We were there the first week of March. As for the Caribbean, it depends on what conditions you prefer. If you're looking for waves, we've heard Barbados & St Lucia are good spots (but we haven't been ourselves). Honestly, we prefer flat water, so our go-to destination is Cayo Guillermo, Cuba. Exuma, Bahamas was also amazing. Apparently Turks & Caicos is great too. Still many places to explore, so I'm sure the list will continue to grow :)
We do think so, we’ve done a lot of testing back and forth on the beach with our crew and the conclusion was that the Soul is better in every way, except that maybe in larger sizes speed 5 has a bit more low end
@@OurKiteLife find me Lee Todd on FB we need to get your CRX skills sorted this year 😊. Cut mine down to 70cm shimmed the mast and added a fuselage rear fin .So easy . Plus lots of Mauritius photos 😍😍😍
From what I can remember the waves were smaller with some nice flat spots in between. Wind was good, sometimes a little gusty. Beach could get busy but overall it was a nice kiting destination. The killer for us was the travel time to get there from Canada 😄
@@OurKiteLife okay! Thanks. For me it's just a couple of hours direct flight. I've been to boa Vista but the standard spot was off shore gusty crap and altered between butter flat to 3m waves. We went to a different onshore spot in the north with small waves and clean wind. I loved cap Verde but curious if the kiting is better on Sal, since it is onshore. Thanks!
Better a late comment than never but you vLog is perfect in my planning process :-). Looking to go to Cape Verde with my non-kiting spouse 1st week in February. We would fly the 4 hours from Lisbon. I am interested in Santa Maria Bay and Kite Beach. My spouse will try some beginner lessons on west side of bay if conditions are good enough. We will try as well to get over a few days to Boa VIsta to kite there as well. And Happy New Year and wish you all an enjoyable and healthy 2022 with good winds.
"Similar if not better condition in the Caribbean", you sure aren't doing that right hander at Ponta Preta justice! Where are you going to find waves like that in the Caribbean? You should have taken this trip to learn to ride a surfboard Laurie, not at Ponta Preta of course but there were plenty of decent small waves where you guys were kiting.
Good point - Ponta Preta is pretty spectacular, and I don't know of any places similar in the Caribbean off the top of my head. That being said, the majority of kiters were at Kite Beach. The trip did inspire me to try a surf board, but in a less crowded spot. Hoping to get a few intro lessons in Hatteras soon. Cheers!
I’ll admit that those pro riders looked solid riding those 10 ft plus waves in Cabo Verde. But the true test would be seeing them attempt the dodgy launch at Kipling in shifty wind and freezing Lake Ontario water 😉
kite porn top-shelf editing ur better-than-me girlfriend failed my attempt to water start in Maui last week. Congratulated 2018 King of the Air Kevin Langree though.
We learned on this trip that we are pretty spoiled in Canada with spots that are rarely ever crowded (in comparison). That being said, we were more than impressed by the majority of kiters there who found space, and kept progressing while having fun. While you can't control how busy a spot is, you can make the best of it and still have fun
Went to Sal a few years ago. Was lots of fun. Got an awesome kite project starting this summer, if your ever in Wales UK lets go for some sessions - Check out the Fire Foil Challenge - firefoilchallenge.co.uk/ 2 world record attempts coming up too. If you have any tips on getting product sponsors that would really help. Awesome vid guys :)
Thanks :) That project looks great, thanks for sharing! Tips for getting sponsors - coming to brands with strong project proposals will definitely be key. If you're on social media, consistent posting and community engagement also helps a lot!

Thanks Dave!
We love your kite surfing videos - and you've inspired us to think about taking up the sport. Thanks for posting - keep them coming! :)

Great video guys! I’m sure a lot of hours went into this one. Good job.👍👍
Thanks Ted! :)
I was there for work last year. It is were I got the bug to start kite boarding.
Great video
Thanks! It’s a nice kite destination- can see why it inspired you to kite :) cheers!
Do you think the Soul is better than the Speed 5?
We do think so, we’ve done a lot of testing back and forth on the beach with our crew and the conclusion was that the Soul is better in every way, except that maybe in larger sizes speed 5 has a bit more low end

Just come back from our two weeks in Mauritius. Laura you need to go there 😍😍😍😍
I would love to travel there one day, it looks absolutely incredible!

What was your experience twin-tipping in sal? Does kite beach also get huge waves or smaller waves only? I would prefer flat-ish conditions
From what I can remember the waves were smaller with some nice flat spots in between. Wind was good, sometimes a little gusty. Beach could get busy but overall it was a nice kiting destination. The killer for us was the travel time to get there from Canada 😄

Looks like a great experience... masirah next ?!?
It's on our list for sure, but we need a little break from airports and planes! Next trip is Hatteras in a couple weeks :D
Is it possible t o unhook on a foil kite? I am not gonna attempt it, but i am curious :p
I don't see why not! maybe we'll attempt it on camera this summer :)
Ha. I was there at the same time but at the kbc station 100m upwind. Would have been fun to meet.
Nice, small world! Lots of good wind that week :) maybe we will cross paths in the future
Looks like a new Flysurfer bar at 6 Minutes
Good catch... ;)
"windy, all the time" : except when we've been there, so, take also a 15m in case ! best
Oh no! There's always that risk, and it's good to plan for it. We brought our 12m with us, and never took it out of the bag.
Great video! Great music! Have a list?
It’s all from Epidemic Sound, it's royalty free music, but you can only access it with paid subscription

What was there at the end? You could pet the sharks? 😃
Pet the sharks or feed the sharks - it's a toss up
These lemon sharks come at a certain level of tide to the reef , looking for food

Kite Beach (the beach where the kite centre is) used to be called Shark Bay. instagram.com/p/BRi_dCFAeScyi34CBo8koUoynbM8nL8ygI2Vf00/
Yes - we learned that on one of the last days of the trip... thankfully we didn't see any sharks while kiting. We did see a lot of turtles though!
Our Kite Life Me too! Last day. I probably wouldn’t have gone into the water if I read it on the first.
nice spot nice shoot.
