You may be able to find quality bearings locally, this was just a trial that seems to be working well so far.
Your video seems to be the only info I've found on the idler pulley, I took the seals off and it's still stiff to spin
Are the bearings free ? I have put ceramic bearing in there but my original bearings were also quite free.
@@billyrides They feel more free but I think I want ceramic bearings for overall smoothness
@@aLboOGieZ I have several hundred km's on the ceramic bearings with no issues.
@@billyrides yeah either those or all ceramic
@@aLboOGieZ looks at the link below the video, those are the ones I ordered.
Nice bike and nice bear
How did you get the bearings off the idler? I have version 1 of the Deviate Highlander and had no issues with drag (once the 2.0 seals were installed). Now I've got a replacement rear triangle and I had to pry out the idler cover AND the idler. On the first version you could take out the idler with no force whatsoever.
If the bearing is stuck in either the frame or the idler cover, you need a blind bearing puller to get it out. I bought a set off eBay for about $30 but have not had to use it yet as the bearings have came out easily. Mine is a V2.
@@billyrides That's the thing. On the V1 the bearings stayed put. Now I pulled them out of the idler cover and frame when having to pry everything open with cable pullers. That is, the bearings are stuck on the idler axle and I don't know how to get them off from there.
@@harzenduro I would put something wither side of the inside of the bearing and tap the shaft through with a pin punch, they should come off relatively easy. I change both mine to ceramic bearings.
@@billyrides That's the thing. It doesn't come off easily. It is pretty tight and having to pull them off the idler is weird and they should stay inside of the frame/idler cover. What if you have to change the idler. It doesn't come with the bearings installed.
@@harzenduro I bought a spare idler, the bearings will have to come off somehow.
How do you remove the seals? Do you mean the ring that covers the bearing or is there another seal in the frame or cover?
Yes the 2 x bearing seals. I have the original SS bearings in there now without seals. The ceramic bearings started making a ticking noise. They were cheap bearings.
Did you keep the seals or you removed at all??
I have removed the seals completely. They were causing the most drag. Without the seals, the original bearing should work really well, the ceramic just spin easier. Probably wont notice much difference with a load of km's on the original SS bearings.
@@billyrides Ok, thanks, finally moved seals as well. Idler move a bit, but does not affect to shifting or chain movement at all. Probably gets more dirt, mud and all that shit, but really don't care. with seals seems like you are pedaling breaking on.
@@enduramaspain2401 did removing the seals make a big difference for you when it came to making the bike pedal better?
