That shot next to the EM was awesome! I've read other people had problems motorizing the OE too. Maybe yours is not flawless, but it runs quite good actually! I have to OE's new in box and I want to convert them to 9V. I'm afraid I'll need 3 or 4 motors for that since you can't use the elastic bands for additional traction. Anyway, good video, nice to see you have gotten the whole thing working!

I am currently building/modifying 21344 into a slightly larger 4-6-2 based on the Bavarian S3/6 - but I used those instructions (PF) as a starting point. The PF L motor has a higher RPM than the Powered Up L motor, so swapping the 12 tooth bevel to a 20 tooth bevel (vertical facing in boiler) reduces the speed/ups the torque. I've also swapped out all the coach/tender wheelsets with metal axle ones which significantly reduces friction

Nice, I'm not happy with the way the gearing is set up in mine. I need to look at that. Making it slightly larger would be cool.

Yeah mine is on display, I did the power function upgrade. Mine does OK on the wide radius track, but the train in general is just to heavy.

I can see why LEGO didn't recommend powering it. The backlash would have been massive. The carriages are so heavy and my engine struggles staying in the track. I think mine will become a display piece like yours.

There are videos from the Orient Express with 2 large motors inside the engine, they can work together and separtly from each other, with both on it can pull 4 kg I will set up the link

I need to look those up, it definitely needs more power.

    PF arguments, you make:
    - I had it laying around: good argument.
    - Rechargeable box: good argument.
    - Doesn't need an app: Doesn't hold water: there are app-less remotes for PU... "but they're only on/off if you don't use train motors" - can be fixed with firmware.

They're not arguments, just my reasons why I put PF in. The engine struggles with running without derailing, so I doubt i'll spend anymore money on it putting Powered Up in it.

With the forwards and backwards issue.
Have you tried disconnecting the Connecting rod/Main Rod
And see if the Side rods roll freely?
It looks like the crosshead is causing the issue.

I will check that, I remember the Emerald Night had an issue with the rods which caused a similar issue.
